GOING OUT IN STYLE: Michael Kofoid Closes 2025 with World Finals Victory

CONCORD, NC (November 9, 2025) - A strong sendoff to the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season is always valuable.

It’s a long road that takes the country’s best Sprint Car teams to several states from coast-to-coast and dozens of racetracks for roughly 80 nights of action per year. It’s miles and miles on the road. It’s late nights and early mornings. Everyone wants to go into the off-season on a high note as next year will be here before you know it.

That’s exactly what Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and his Roth Motorsports crew were able to do Saturday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The Greatest Show on Dirt closed out its 48th season of action with a $25,000-to-win World of Outlaws World Finals main event. With big money on the line, it’s no surprise Kofoid brought his best.

This year’s highest earner in the sport lined up fourth for the 25-lapper and got to work right away. Kofoid climbed to third on the opening circuit, and four laps later the Penngrove, CA native made his way to second. On the 15th lap, misfortune for 2025 champion David Gravel gave Kofoid a gift. Gravel got into the Turn 1 fence while leading and went around. The resulting damage ended his evening.

That handed Kofoid the lead, but it wasn’t an easy drive to victory from there. The country’s winningest Sprint Car driver, Rico Abreu, clawed his way to second from seventh in the latter stages. Abreu threw a couple slide jobs at Kofoid on restarts but couldn’t quite clear. Kofoid did what he needed to do in traffic late and got the job done to close out the campaign.

“I felt like we were catching David,” Kofoid said of before Gravel’s crash. “It would’ve been nice to race for it. I don’t know what happened. It’s just a bummer for him. I felt like we were getting closer, and it maybe could’ve been a good race. I’m just really happy to be standing up here. It’s not easy winning in Charlotte. It’s not easy having speed in Charlotte. I owe it all to Dylan (Buswell), Nate (Knotts), and Gage (Tyra). Happy to have Todd Ventura here. He does a really good job running our team for us. To do this in front of a packed house is really cool.”

The win put the punctuation on a spectacular sophomore season for Kofoid as he topped a dozen World of Outlaws races with the Roth crew. That’s five more than the 23-year-old bagged during his rookie year in 2024. The 22nd overall of his career breaks a tie with Tim Kaeding and Rico Abreu to make him the fifth winningest Californian in Series history.

Rico Abreu took the runner-up spot to finalize a fantastic World Finals week. The St. Helena, CA native grabbed a Thursday victory and a pair of seconds. He wraps up the year with 10 podiums in 17 tries with the World of Outlaws.

“Definitely narrower surface, harder to get going,” Abreu said. “We just kept working to get our car to feel better for me. The more we got out there the better I was able to get it to sit in the rear tires and drive forward. I’m just really fortunate to be racing with really good guys and just a good way to cap off the year there.”

Brent Marks charged from ninth to third to round out the podium. The “Myerstown Missile” had speed all week and wrapped it up with his best World of Outlaws finish of the year.

“The track tonight was actually pretty tricky,” Marks said. “We got a pretty big curb that we could race against, but you had to be careful against it because it would really suck you in and get you tight. It was a little bit more tricky than the last two nights. But overall, with the rain that we had, I felt like the track was really nice. I was kind of hoping they could get the infield tires in another half a lane, and I think if that would’ve happened, we could’ve had two lanes that would’ve been absolutely awesome. We had a lot of speed on Thursday and a lot of speed last night.”

Even though Gravel’s crash ended his night early, he still got to celebrate as he and Big Game Motorsports were officially crowned the 2025 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champions. Gravel becomes only the sixth driver ever to claim two titles in a row. Gravel and team members Cody Jacobs (crew chief), Pete Stephens (car chief), and Zach Patterson (tire specialist), put together a masterful campaign with the Tod Quiring-owned car consisting of 17 wins, 40 podiums, 56 top fives, and 64 top 10s.

“What a season,” Gravel said. “I’m just really proud of my guys. I feel really bad for them tonight with what happened, but it doesn’t put a black eye on your whole season. It’s been such a good year. I just can’t believe how consistent we were all season. These guys produced every night, and I can’t thank them enough.”

Spencer Bayston and Corey Day completed the top five.

Logan Schuchart earned his Series-high ninth KSE Racing Products Hard Charger of the year with a drive from 23rd to seventh.

Heat Races belonged to David Gravel (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Rico Abreu (Real American Beer Heat Two), Buddy Kofoid (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Spencer Bayston (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to David Gravel.

Gravel also topped the Toyota Dash.

Justin Peck won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

CHARLOTTE STEAL: David Gravel Sneaks by Rico Abreu to Win Friday of World Finals

Gravel visits Victory Lane a day after clinching another World of Outlaws championship

Tyler Carr

CONCORD, NC (November 7, 2025) -

David Gravel might’ve secured his second straight World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series title on Thursday, but that doesn’t mean he’s cruising to the finish line.

Complacency isn’t what leads to two championships in a row with The Greatest Show on Dirt. Winners want to win. And winners is exactly what Gravel and the Big Game Motorsports team are.

A runner-up on Thursday’s World of Outlaws World Finals opener heightened the hunger for a trip to Victory Lane. It was Rico Abreu who held Gravel off, and he got his chance at redemption just one night later.

On Friday night, Abreu took the lead from Brent Marks on a late restart as Gravel surged from fourth to second. Then Gravel chipped away at Abreu’s advantage as the laps waned. The Rico Abreu Racing No. 24 got slightly held up coming to the white flag, and Gravel capitalized. He shot to the inside of Abreu and slid ahead. Abreu tried a slider to regain the top spot in Turns 1 and 2 but didn’t have enough. Gravel pulled away and took the checkered flag at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“Just being back a couple rows and getting to pace some guys and see what works and what doesn’t,” Gravel explained of what helped lead him to victory. “I felt like the bottom of (Turns) 1 and 2 wasn’t very good but in (Turns) 3 and 4 I felt pretty good. I wasn’t having good exit speed but was really gaining to the center. I just kept working it. I changed my entry a lot of times there in (Turns) 3 and 4 at the end. The more I got in the brown, the better and more I gained on him (Abreu). He definitely started hanging for sure. He was struggling there in (Turns) 1 and 2. I got faster than him in the cushion, and he was definitely hanging on. It’s good to get a win.”

The victory gave Gravel 17 in 2025 with the World of Outlaws, moving him one away from equaling his personal best mark for one season. It’s the 120th of his career, and he’s two from tying Danny Lasoski for sixth all-time. Eight of those have come at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. That’s just one behind Williams Grove Speedway for the winningest facility on his résumé.

Rico Abreu came home with the runner-up spot, narrowly missing out on two triumphs in a row. The St. Helena, CA native made one slip in traffic that he thought may have been the difference. A win and a second will still line him up on the pole of a Heat Race for Saturday’s season finale.

“I’ve got to watch to see where the 2 car was making ground,” Abreu said. “I felt like on lower air pressure I was really good firing off. Then we caught traffic, and I was trying to watch and judge where the traffic was going. The 17 just kind of moved right up in front of me, and I had to make a last minute decision. You just kill your momentum when you make big, altering movements like that. I think looking back on it I was really aggressive in the beginning of the race on my tires. I used a lot of the left rear tire and could feel it grinding.”

Donny Schatz drove from 10th to third for a much-needed encouraging finish aboard the Sides Motorsports No. 15. The 10-time Series champion has faced some struggles over the last several months, but Friday turned the tides as he collected his first podium since early August at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park.

“We found something to get the motor running in that Heat Race there,” Schatz said. “I don’t know if we got something in the fuel, but it kind of plugged the nozzles. We made up that ground in the Heat Race, which is huge. When you get inside the top 10, you can go race. We’ve run good around here in the past. I could kind of float the middle there after the restarts for a couple laps then you had to get up and go. I just couldn’t finish the corner quite right. I watched David, and he was kind of in the line I wanted to be, so I had to be off his right rear a little bit. It got my car a little upset, but we’ll take it.”

Chase Randall and Spencer Bayston completed the top five.

Carson Macedo took the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 from 25th to eighth to bag the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Heat Races belonged to Brent Marks (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Rico Abreu (Real American Beer Heat Two), David Gravel (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Garet Williamson (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Rico Abreu.

Brent Marks topped the Toyota Dash.

Justin Peck won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Garet Williamson.

RICO RULES: Abreu Dominates World Finals Opener, David Gravel Clinches Title

Rico Abreu secures his first Charlotte victory while Daivd Gravel wraps up a second straight World of Outlaws championship with a runner-up

Tyler Carr

CONCORD, NC (November 6, 2025) - Chalk up another one for Rico Abreu.

It’s been a dream season for the St. Helena, CA native, and he’s got no intentions of letting his foot off the gas as 2025 winds down.

Abreu entered World of Outlaws World Finals week with a nation-leading 20 Sprint Car victories this year. One thing lacking from his résumé was a win at North Carolina’s The Dirt Track at Charlotte with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars. He’d been close with a trio of runner-ups including one in his most recent appearance, but he doesn’t have to be the bridesmaid anymore.

World Finals racing opened on Thursday, and Abreu started on the pole for the 25-lapper and put together the drive he needed to finally secure a Charlotte score. David Gravel gave him a brief challenge, taking a peek underneath late, but Abreu got up on the wheel and drove away.

“You’ve really got to process the race pace,” Abreu said. “The engines were burning so much fuel. We were like a gallon a lap in the Dash there. We run a 30-gallon tank, so you’ve just got be be really tight on the fuel valve. I was really aggressive on my brakes trying to pick the idle up, keep my shocks warmed up, and then I had one of the best drivers in the country racing right beside me. I just wanted to set a really fast pace there after the fuel stop knowing we had a little extra fuel there to get to the end. It’s awesome to get to race in front of the best fans in the world.”

Abreu’s win total this year climbed to 21, and four of them have come with The Greatest Show on Dirt in only 15 tries. His 21st checkered flag of the season is also his 21st career World of Outlaws victory. Charlotte becomes the 13th different track where he’s won with the Series.

David Gravel held on for the runner-up spot aboard the Big Game Motorsports No. 2. He took a shot at Abreu for the top spot but just couldn’t quite sneak by for the win. On the bright side, his 39th podium of the season was enough to mathematically clinch his second consecutive World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car title, becoming only the sixth driver ever to do so.

“It feels really good,” Gravel said. “It’s been a long year. We’ve just been so consistently fast Qualifying and putting ourselves on the front row of Heat Races. Just proud of all my guys. They give me a fast car every single night. We went out to try to win this race tonight, but Rico was pretty good. I feel like it was hard to pass. Man, we had him there for a second. I wish I moved up to the top and didn’t try to run the bottom so many corners in a row but hats off to those guys. They’ve had a great season.”

The final step of the podium was occupied by Corey Day who gave the fans a show. After winning the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown, the Clovis, CA competitor ripped the Jason Meyers Racing No. 14 all the way from 21st to third in his Charlotte debut.

“I rolled out there and saw it was curbed up on the wall, so I was happy to see that,” Day said. “I hate that we made it so difficult on ourselves Qualifying bad and having to start all the way back there. We had a really good car. We’re making gains on it, and I think this will set me up good for Saturday as long as I have an okay tomorrow. We’ll keep working on it.”

Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and Parker Price-Miller completed the top five.

Logan Schuchart marched the Shark Racing No. 1S from 25th to sixth to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Heat Races belonged to Sye Lynch (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Danny Sams III (Real American Beer Heat Two), Buddy Kofoid (WIX Filters Heat Three), and David Gravel (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Buddy Kofoid.

Rico Abreu topped the Toyota Dash.

Corey Day won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Zach Hampton.

UP NEXT: The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will take on another $15,000-to-win World Finals program on Friday, Nov. 7 before the $25,000-to-win/$1,750-to-start season finale at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Saturday, Nov. 8. For tickets, CLICK HERE.

AYING DOWN A LAP: Sye Lynch Steals the Show on World Finals Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying Night

CONCORD, NC (November 5, 2025) - Wednesday ignited on-track action as the World of Outlaws World Finals got underway at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Two sessions of Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying set the stage for World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Heat Races on Thursday-Friday, Nov. 6-7. The two complete racing programs will line up Heats for the $25,000-to-win/$1,750-to-start season finale on Saturday, Nov. 8.

The first session was led by Apollo, PA’s Sye Lynch. He took the Mosites-Lynch No. 42 around the 4/10 mile in 12.661 seconds for his third career Simpson Quick Time. That’ll line Lynch up on the pole of the first Heat Race for Thursday’s program. Rico Abreu, Ryan Timms, Danny Sams III, and Cory Eliason completed the top five in Flight A behind Lynch.

Flight B of the opening session was topped by Garet Williamson, who went out as the final car and still ripped a 12.763 in the Fischer Motorsports No. 23. David Gravel, who needs a finish of 21st or better on Thursday to clinch his second straight title, was second quickest. Buddy Kofoid was third, NASCAR Cup Series competitor Ty Gibbs timed in fourth, and Ashton Torgerson rounded out the top five.

The Qualifying session for Friday’s racing started out the same as the first with Sye Lynch leading the first Flight and claiming overall Simpson Quick Time honors with a 12.899 second lap. And just like the first session, Rico Abreu was a spot behind him. Brent Marks, Ryan Timms, and Emerson Axsom followed.

David Gravel led the way in Flight B, stopping the clock at a 13.015. Garet Williamson was second. Spencer Bayston, who is making his debut with Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing before their 2026 World of Outlaws campaign, timed in third. Cale Thomas and Ashton Torgerson completed the top five.

With Qualifying complete, the focus now shifts entirely to racing for the remainder of the week as the nation’s top Sprint Car drivers compete in the “Queen City” alongside the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision and the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds.

LOOKING BACK: 2025 World of Outlaws Year in Review

The tour’s 48th season of racing delivered plenty of memorable moments and noteworthy storylines

Trent Gower

CONCORD, NC (November 13, 2025) - The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season is a long and winding road.

A nine-month journey that annually takes the nation’s top Sprint Car talent to roughly 40 tracks in 20 states promises to be filled with memorable moments and fruitful storylines, and that was exactly the case in 2025.

From a teenager topping the sport’s biggest race to a driver in their 60s winning with a head-turning setup to a dominant year punctuated by a historic championship, this year delivered a little bit of everything.

Let’s look at some of the season’s top stories:

BACK-2-BACK: David Gravel finally secured his first World of Outlaws title in 2024 after so many years of trying, and it appears he was only getting started.

The Watertown, CT native and his Big Game Motorsports team came out even stronger in 2025. They opened the season with 14 consecutive top-five finishes, including five victories. They didn’t miss the top 10 until the 29th race of the campaign. When the year wrapped up, Gravel’s stat sheet showed 17 wins, 40 podiums, 56 top fives, 64 top 10s, and a 4.13 average finish in 68 starts.

That was more than enough to earn Gravel his second straight championship. He joined Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Donny Schatz, Jason Meyers, and Brad Sweet as only the sixth competitor ever to go back-to-back. With a pair of titles and 120 victories on his résumé at only 33 years old, Gravel is well on his way to establishing himself as one of the best to ever get behind the wheel of a Sprint Car.

ROOKIE WAR: Announcements kept coming over the off-season that new drivers were signing on for their first World of Outlaws tour, assembling one of the most competitive rookie classes in Series history.

The final tally was seven as Cole Macedo, Garet Williamson, Chris Windom, Skylar Gee, Zach Hampton, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Conner Morrell readied to battle for the coveted Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year honor.

While none of them were able to pick off a Feature win, several had close calls. Macedo led laps twice. Morrell appeared bound for victory at Ohsweken before Gravel spoiled the party as Morrell settled for second. Williamson, Windom, and Gee all landed on the podium once.

Ultimately, consistency carried Williamson to earning the Rookie of the Year. Windom led for much of the season’s first half, but a solid summer stretch of nine top 10s in 13 races helped Williamson take the top spot and pull away. The Columbia, MO native ended the year with seven top fives and 26 top 10s aboard the Fischer Motorsports No. 23 and forever cemented his name in the history books.

RIVALRY REKINDLED: Sprint Car fans rejoiced when it was announced that Joe Gibbs would be allowing his drivers to dabble in the dirt again. This meant Christopher Bell could return to his roots and rekindle his rivalry with Kyle Larson. It didn’t take long for the duo to deliver.

The second night of the season at Volusia Speedway Park’s Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals came down to the wire between Bell and Larson. Bell was aboard Pennsylvania’s famous Kreitz Racing No. 69K while Larson wheeled the familiar Silva Motorsports No. 57. Bell led when the white flag waved, and Larson got a run coming to the checkered flag, but it wasn’t quite enough as Bell held on in a finish that brought the fans to their feet.

Bell won the battle, but it was Larson triumphing in the war as he went on to win the next two nights and add the Big Gator championship trophy to his collection.

COMING BACK TO CANADA: After eight years away, opportunity opened for the World of Outlaws to return to Canada in 2025.

The always exciting Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario welcomed the tour back for two nights of midweek May action. Fans packed the stands, and a healthy field of more than 30 Sprint Cars filled the pit area.

The weekend belonged to David Gravel who broke out the broom and swept both nights. While Gravel might’ve won, regulars in the region had their share of the spotlight as Harding, PA’s Jordan Thomas made the trip across the border and led laps of the opener before finishing fifth. The following night, it was Canada’s own Dylan Westbrook pacing 14 circuits before a podium result.

BUDDY’S BOOMING BANK: The 2025 BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals is a week that Michael “Buddy” Kofoid will never forget.

The two events in one began with the Huset’s Hustle on June 18-19. A podium on night one positioned him well for the next night when he won and pocketed $100,000. The next two nights brought the High Bank Nationals, and Kofoid finished second in the prelim before winning the finale and banking a massive $250,000 paycheck. He became only the third driver in Sprint Car history to earn a pair of six-figure paydays in the same week, joining Brent Marks and David Gravel.

It also put the finishing touches on Kofoid’s tale of redemption at Huset’s with the Roth Motorsports crew. Two years ago, when they’d just partnered, Kofoid lost an engine while leading with less than 10 laps to go for $250,000. Since then, the Brandon, SD track has hosted a trio of six-figure races, and Kofoid and the No. 83 team have taken all of them.

SHOCKING THE WORLD: An 18-year-old winning the sport’s biggest race likely wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card to start 2025, but that’s exactly what happened.

Teenager Ryan Timms looked like the most poised of veterans all week long at the 64th running of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s. It began with a drive from eighth to victory on his prelim night with the Liebig Motorsports crew. That lined him up on the pole for Saturday’s finale, and Timms put together a flawless 50 laps to become a Knoxville Nationals champion.

The Oklahoman became the second youngest winner of the event, trailing only Kenny Weld. Timms is also the only driver that can claim their first official World of Outlaws Feature victory is the Knoxville Nationals.

END OF AN ERA: The Sprint Car world was rocked in August when it was announced that Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing (TSR) would be parting ways.

Since joining forces in 2008, the pairing amassed eight World of Outlaws titles, 234 Series victories, nine Knoxville Nationals, five Kings Royals, and a pair of National Opens. It’s undoubtedly one of the most dominant driver-team combinations in Sprint Car history.

But after more than half a season combatting struggles, the two sides went different directions after the Knoxville Nationals. TSR hired Kerry Madsen to complete the campaign. Schatz drove for Tod Quiring, Dave Lunstra, and Kevin Kozlowski over the next month before climbing aboard a second Sides Motorsports entry for the final 11 races of his 29th World of Outlaws season.

Schatz ended the season winless for the first time since his rookie season in 1997.

61 YEARS YOUNG: Fans saw history made on a late October Saturday at Sharon Speedway.

The Blaney family owns and operates the northeastern Ohio oval, and Dave Blaney put brother Dale Blaney behind the wheel of his famed No. 10 for the World of Outlaws tilt. With an experimental setup obvious to the eye, the “Low Rider” put on a show. He drove from fifth to victory, holding off Buddy Kofoid for a popular win at Blaney’s home track.

It marked Dale’s first World of Outlaws score in a decade, and at 61 years of age, he became the oldest driver to win a World of Outlaws race.

FINISHING STRONG: Schatz and TSR’s split wasn’t the only silly season news to shock the sport during the year. In September, Sheldon Haudenschild announced that he’d be departing Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing (SJMR) after his eighth season with the team concluded.

That didn’t slow Haudenschild over the last couple months of the campaign as he aimed to finish his SJMR tenure strong. Haudenschild bagged the final leg of Sprint Car racing’s triple crown in October, winning $75,000 at Williams Grove Speedway’s National Open. Four races later, Haudenschild took the NOS Energy Drink No. 17 to Victory Lane again at Angell Park Speedway.

Haudenschild finished up the year fifth in points, his fourth time in the top five. The Wooster, OH native ended his time with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Richard and Jennifer Marshall’s team with 46 checkered flags. Spencer Bayston is set to move to SJMR in 2026, while Haudenschild has yet to reveal his plans.

POSSE PREVAIL: The World of Outlaws had gotten the better of the Pennsylvania Posse in 2023 and 2024, but the “Keystone State” turned the tides in 2025.

Mother Nature limited the rivalry to six battles, and the Posse topped four of them to the World of Outlaws’ two. The Posse can largely thank Anthony Macri for the upper hand. The Dillsburg, PA driver was responsible for three of the four scores with wins at Williams Grove Speedway in May, BAPS Motor Speedway in July, and Lincoln Speedway in October.

The one other Posse triumph came courtesy of Chase Dietz, who earned his first World of Outlaws Feature victory at October’s National Open prelim.

CELEBRATING THE SEASON: Awards Banquet Caps 2025 World of Outlaws Campaign

Tyler Carr

CONCORD, NC (November 10, 2025) - The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision came together to celebrate their seasons Sunday night at the Championship Awards Banquet.

The best drivers on dirt dug out their best duds from the closet to reflect on the year that was. Every full-time driver had the chance to look back at their campaign, several special awards were handed out, and the proceedings were punctuated with the crowning of both Series champions. But the fun wasn’t done there as NOS Energy Drink powered an after party to allow the teams to let loose after a long season.

THE CHAMPION: One title wasn’t enough for David Gravel and the Big Game Motorsports crew consisting of Cody Jacobs, Pete Stephens, and Zach Patterson. They had every intention of defending their 2024 championship this year, and they did so in a big way.

Gravel and the Tod Quiring-owned team structured a sensational season. They bagged 17 wins, 40 podiums, 56 top fives, and 64 top 10s in 68 starts. The Huset’s Speedway No. 2’s average finish of 4.13 is the best for a champion since Donny Schatz logged a 4.04 in 2018. Gravel became only the sixth driver ever to claim back-to-back World of Outlaws titles.

“You just never know how these seasons are going to go,” Gravel said. “I grew up watching Donny Schatz kick our butts every year by 300-plus points. What he did for 10-plus years was amazing. Then there was Brad’s (Sweet) run. It seems like Sprint Car racing is very streaky. You see that with the record books. You just never know going into the season. We had a lot of confidence and a majority of the same team members. It was an awesome season. It started off strong. We were just so consistent this year. Sprint Car racing is just so tough. I’m so proud of what we were able to do this year, the full body of work from beginning to end. I think all of us at Big Game Motorsports feel that way.”

The list of those to win three consecutive championships is even slimmer. If Gravel can pull it off next year, he’ll join Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz, and Brad Sweet as just the fourth to top a trio in a row.

NOS ENERGY DRINK ELOY GUTIERREZ SPIRIT AWARD: A special award is reserved for special people, and in 2025 the NOS Energy Eloy Gutierrez Spirit Award went to Carson Macedo and Philip Dietz of Jason Johnson Racing.

Lauren Albano, Marketing Director for NOS Energy Drink, presented Macedo and Dietz the award for their professionalism and dedication to Sprint Car racing as they both serve a major role in making sure JJR is one of the sport’s top teams.

KEVIN GOBRECHT ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: One of 2025’s top storylines was the loaded rookie class with no clear favorite, and it was Garet Williamson coming out on top when the final checkered flag waved.

The Columbia, MO native tallied seven top fives and 26 top 10s aboard the Fischer Motorsports No. 23. Chris Windom led the way for a majority of the first half of the year, but Williamson surged in the second half and took over the top spot in early August and didn’t relinquish it.

“I sat here at the beginning of the year when everyone started announcing they were running for Rookie of the Year, and I was like, ‘Man, it’s going to be a tough deal. There’s seven of us,’” Williamson said. “You go back and look at the list of all the guys who have won it. We all made a list at the beginning of the year of things we wanted to accomplish this year, and I think that was one of the biggest ones on my list is make sure we win that (Rookie of the Year). It was big for our team and me to do that. And with the Gobrecht family connection, it’s a big honor.”

CREW CHIEF OF THE YEAR: Roth Motorsports’ Dylan Buswell took home Crew Chief of the Year honors.

The Australian calls the shots on Dennis and Teresa Roth’s iconic No. 83, and Michael “Buddy” Kofoid drove it to a dozen World of Outlaws victories this year including a pair of six-figure paydays in one week at June’s Huset’s High Bank Nationals.

With Buswell’s efforts on the wrenches, Kofoid came home runner-up in points in only his second season as a full-time competitor.

Buswell was also presented with a new jack from Pit Boss Jacks.

TED JOHNSON AWARD: The Crew Chief of the Year wasn’t the only hardware that went to the Roth Motorsports camp.

The Ted Johnson Award is handed out to those who make outstanding contributions to Sprint Car racing, and few are as dedicated to the sport as Dennis and Teresa Roth. The California couple have fielded cars for more than three decades including several years of putting a team on the road with the World of Outlaws. The Ted Johnson Award went to Dennis and Teresa Roth in 2025, and Dennis’ nephew and Roth Motorsports team manager Todd Ventura accepted the award on their behalf.

“Dennis and Ted had a lot of common thoughts about Sprint Car racing, and they were both very passionate about racing against the best,” Ventura said. “Our goal is to continue Ted’s legacy. We’re very proud to be a part of the World of Outlaws with our team and the success we had this past year.”

JASON JOHNSON SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD: Jason Johnson brought a positive attitude to the track every single day, and the Jason Johnson Sportsmanship Award was established to recognize an individual who also dedicates themselves to being a bright presence and friend to everyone.

It was Jason Johnson Racing’s own Robby McQuinn receiving the award in 2025. He’s been in the sport his entire life, and if any car has to make a trip to the Federated Car Care Work Zone after an accident on track, odds are you’ll find McQuinn jumping in to help make repairs no matter who it is.

FAN FAVORITE: Fans love excitement, so it’s no surprise that the Fan Favorite Award went to Sheldon Haudenschild again in 2025.

The Wooster, OH native followed the footsteps of his famous father Jac and never fails to put on a show. He took the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing/NOS Energy Drink No. 17 to four victories in 2025 including a $75,000 payday at Williams Grove Speedway’s National Open. Haudenschild owns 46 career World of Outlaws wins.

FEDERATED CAR CARE WORK ZONE TEAMWORK COUNTS AWARD: Bill Balog and his B2 Motorsports team were the recipients of the Federated Car Care Work Zone Teamwork Counts Award and pocketed $5,000 for their efforts.

SOCIAL AMBASSADOR: David Gravel also took home Social Ambassador of the Year honors to go along with his championship. The 33-year-old understands the importance of maintaining a prominent presence online to connect with fans.

KSE HARD CHARGER: Logan Schuchart took the Shark Racing No. 1S on a season-high nine KSE Racing Products Hard Charger drives to earn the Hard Charger of the Year Award.

ENGINE BUILDER OF THE YEAR: Morrison Racing Engines was awarded the Engine Builder of the Year for the second season in a row. Brian Morrison’s motors helped power David Gravel and Big Game Motorsports’ back-to-back championships, and he also supplies to powerplants for KCP Racing.

CHASSIS BUILDER OF THE YEAR: Maxim Chassis collected Chassis Builder of the Year as they continue to be the choice for many of the best Sprint Car teams in the country.

Ashton Torgerson Taking Talents to World of Outlaws in 2026 With Shark Racing

Dylan Terry

CONCORD, NC (Nov. 7, 2025) – A new rookie class is already taking shape for the 2026 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season, with Ashton Torgerson set to join the premier national tour full-time.

The 19-year-old’s first foray into a full national Sprint Car schedule, as a Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year contender, will also see the return of Shark Racing’s No. 1a to the World of Outlaws full-time.

“I’m grateful to even have this chance, and for Jacob and Bobby to give me the shot,” Torgerson said. “We kind of sat back and looked, and, you know, Bobby started this whole 1a racing, starting on the Outlaw tour, so we thought it was the place to go. Like I said, Bobby started it, Bobby ran the Outlaws, and now Bobby and Jacob believed in me. Now I get my shot and see what we can do with the Outlaws.”

Torgerson, of Medford, OR, joined Shark Racing earlier this year, and they immediately became a stout pairing. He won in his second start with the team during a 410 Sprint Car show at BAPS Motor Speedway – his first start at the track.

He continued to impress in national Sprint Car competition, starting fifth and finishing ninth in his first Kings Royal appearance. A few weeks later, he scored back-to-back top-10 finishes at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park, including a 10th-place finish in the most grueling Sprint Car race of the year – the Ironman 55.

Most recently, in September, he earned two top-five finishes in national Sprint Car competition, as well.

“They make me comfortable every night, helping me every night, making sure the car is right for me,” Torgerson said about working with the Shark Racing team. “There’s no pressure on me here, just what can we do to get better and move on to the next night, and I think it is great for Jacob (Allen) to have my back there and helping me out. Like I said, no pressure, and we learn as a team and try to get better as a team.”

Like many rising stars in motorsports, Torgerson is a graduate of the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota. In his sole full-time year with the Series in 2024, he earned three wins and finished fourth in points.

Torgerson started racing when he was 4 years old, racing asphalt go-karts and even got the opportunity to race them in Italy as a representative for the United States at 9 years old. Then, he moved to dirt, racking up wins in Micro Sprints before moving to Midgets.

The return of Shark Racing’s No. 1a to the World of Outlaws puts both teams, Hall of Famer Bobby Allen built from the ground up, back on the tour together full-time for the first time since 2023. Jacob Allen, who still plays a key role in leading the No. 1a team, stepped out of the seat that year, opening the door for drivers like Torgerson to showcase their skills on a national level. Allen earned five victories with the World of Outlaws while driving the No. 1a.

You can watch Torgerson and his Shark Racing team compete with the World of Outlaws during the World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte this weekend. Then, follow the start of their first full-time year together in 2026 during Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park, Feb. 4-7. If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch every World of Outlaws race live on DIRTVision.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Charlotte’s World Finals Set to Conclude 48th World of Outlaws Season

The Greatest Show on Dirt is ready for a four-night sendoff to 2025 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte

Trent Gower

CONCORD, NC (November 3, 2025) - The time has come. #AllDirtRoads have led to Charlotte.

After more than 60 races in 19 different states from coast to coast, along with a trip north of the border to Canada, the 2025 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season is ready to wrap up in the “Queen City.”

All eyes are firmly fixed on The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the World of Outlaws World Finals on Nov. 5-8. Four consecutive evenings of action kick off with Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying Night on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Two sessions of Qualifying will set Heat Race lineups for Thursday and Friday’s racing programs. Feature points accumulated from those two nights will line up Saturday’s Heats and set the stage for the $25,000-to-win/$1,750-to-start season finale.

The country’s top Sprint Car drivers will also be joined by the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision and Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds all three nights.

It’s a can’t-miss week for any dirt racing fan. The sport’s three premier Series for four straight nights to close out the year. World Finals week is here.

Let’s look at the week’s top storylines:

BACK-2-BACK: David Gravel cemented his name in the record books last year by becoming the 11th different World of Outlaws champion, and he appears poised to make history yet again.

Gravel and the Big Game Motorsports crew came out even stronger in 2025. They’ve compiled 16 wins, 38 podiums, 54 top fives, and 62 top 10s in 65 Feature starts. Gravel’s average finish is a stellar 3.89, which is on pace to be the best for a champion since Donny Schatz’s 3.40 in 2015. Securing a second straight championship would make the Watertown, CT native only the sixth driver ever to claim two in a row, joining a list of legends that features Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Donny Schatz, Jason Meyers, and Brad Sweet. Gravel’s advantage over Michael “Buddy” Kofoid sits at a comfortable 138 points.

Gravel’s record at Charlotte is stout. His seven World of Outlaws victories at “America’s Home for Racing” rank second behind only Donny Schatz’s tally of 14. He’s finished outside the top 10 just once in his last 15 tries at the 4/10 mile.

SOPHOMORE SENSATION: Michael “Buddy” Kofoid delivered perhaps the best Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year campaign in 2024, and there have been no signs of a sophomore slump in 2025.

He’s taken the Roth Motorsports No. 83 on 11 trips to Victory Lane this year, including banking a pair of six-figure paydays in one week at Huset’s Speedway in June. The Penngrove, CA driver’s 30 podiums and 5.38 average finish rank behind only Gravel. His efforts have him sitting second in points.

Kofoid would need a lot to go his way this week to have a shot at Gravel for the title, and he’s got a comfortable lead on Carson Macedo in the standings. So, this week is simply about putting the finishing touches on a remarkable second season. He bagged a pair of runner-ups at last year’s World Finals.

SETTLING SIXTH: Fans will want to keep an eye on Donny Schatz and Bill Balog all week as they battle it out for sixth in the standings. Balog, who was nearly 200 points behind Schatz at the start of September, has trimmed the gap to 48 markers.

History suggests Schatz should have the advantage. His 14 Charlotte wins are the most all-time and double the total of the second highest. The 10-time Series champion has also been plenty consistent in the “Queen City” with 53 top 10s in 67 tries.

Balog’s Charlotte experience is much less extensive. He’s totaled 18 nights of racing with a best result of fifth in 2021. It’s been a stout sophomore season for Balog as he’s collected a trio of victories and 36 top 10s.

QUEEN CITY SPEED: Outside of those already mentioned, a few more drivers among the 2025 World of Outlaws roster have flexed their muscles in the past at Charlotte.

Logan Schuchart stands out as a favorite to punctuate the campaign with a win or two. He’s topped four races at Charlotte, including a drive from 14th in 2019. The Shark Racing pilot sits fourth in points with an outside shot at surpassing Macedo for third.

And speaking of Carson Macedo, he’s no slouch at the North Carolina oval. He got his first victory there last year and has been in the top five in seven of his 10 tries since joining Jason Johnson Racing in 2021.

ROOKIE WAR WRAPS UP: World Finals will also signal an end to 2025’s highly competitive Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year battle.

Garet Williamson just about has the award in the bag. After Chris Windom led much of the beginning portion of the year, Williamson and the Fischer Motorsports team chipped away until finally taking over the top spot in August. Since then, Williamson hasn’t slowed as he’s built a 126-point advantage.

Windom and his Sides Motorsports crew now must fend off Cole Macedo if he wants to hold onto second in the rookie standings. The TwoC Racing driver has put together a late-season run at Windom that includes five top 10s in the last eight races as he’s narrowed the gap between the two to 24 points. Macedo has competed at Charlotte eight times before with a best result of fourth in 2022.

SAME FACES, NEW PLACES: Silly season got off to an early start, meaning World Finals will be the first chance for fans to see some competitors get acquainted with their new rides ahead of 2026.

Spencer Bayston joined forces with Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing for next year’s World of Outlaws campaign. Sheldon Haudenschild will finish out his tenure with the team this week, and they also plan to roll out a second car for Bayston. The Lebanon, IN native’s best Charlotte showing is fourth in 2018 aboard the Swindell SpeedLab No. 39.

With Brad Sweet scaling back to a part-time schedule next year, Locust Grove, OK’s Daison Pursley has been tapped as Kasey Kahne Racing’s primary pilot. The combination will debut at Charlotte, where Pursley peaked at ninth in three tries last year.

With Pursley heading to KKR, that left a void to be filled at Buch Motorsports. It was announced last week the Jacksonville, OR’s Tanner Holmes had been hired to do so, and they intend to make their first laps together at World Finals. Holmes’ only Charlotte experience came two years ago driving for Shark Racing.

FROM FAR AND WIDE: Expect to see a diverse field in the pit area this week as World Finals routinely attracts competitors from all over the country in addition to the full-time World of Outlaws roster.

2025 Knoxville Nationals champion Ryan Timms will be making the trip from Rapid City, SD with the Liebig Motorsports team. Timms debuted at Charlotte last year during World Finals and picked up a pair of top 10s highlighted by a fourth in the finale.

NASCAR Cup Series competitor Ty Gibbs has his World of Outlaws debut on the agenda this week. The grandson of Joe Gibbs has dabbled in Sprint Car racing this year and is ready for more laps at World Finals.

Corey Day plans to make his The Dirt Track at Charlotte debut this week aboard the Jason Meyers Racing No. 14. The 19-year-old has experience at the big track across the street, competing with the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the Roval a month ago.

Late Model star Ricky Thornton Jr. is set to add some more Sprint Car experience to his résumé. This year’s World 100 winner did double duty last year, jumping in an Indy Race Parts Sprint Car, and will do so again. He’s claimed a trio of World of Outlaws Late Model wins at Charlotte.

Other expected entries include Giovanni Scelzi (Fresno, CA), Emerson Axsom (Franklin, IN), Brent Marks (Myerstown, PA), and many more.

Fittingly, the 40-lap main event came down to the two open-wheel veterans, battling it out for the top spot in pursuit of the $10,000 grand prize.

While Hafertepe started inside Row 2 and stayed inside the top-five the entire race, Daum started his march to the front from seventh on the starting grid. By the halfway point, Daum had advanced all the way to third, using his preferred bottom lane around Creek County’s 1/4-mile confines.

Out front, Hafertepe was stalking race leader Blake Hahn in lapped traffic and later made the pass on the No. 52 for the lead, slipping by in the middle groove of Turns 3 and 4 on Lap 23.

Now in control of the field, Hafertepe looked to drive away to victory on the top. Behind him was Daum, who took the runner-up spot from Hahn before the caution flag flew on Lap 27. One lap after the restart, Daum took his shot at the lead, pulling up alongside Hafertepe on the bottom down the backstretch and beating the No. 15H back to the flag stand to take the lead on Lap 29.

Hafertepe retook the lead at the line on Lap 30, but Daum came back on the bottom and beat Hafertepe to the line once more on Lap 31. Daum soon began to pull away from the pack and led the field back around to the checkered flag to secure his first career American Sprint Car Series Feature win — one of the biggest in his career.

“I’m happy to excel at where I feel like my program is,” Daum, 34, of Pocahontas, IL, said. “Half-mile guys go run Knoxville and Eldora and those sorts of places, and short track guys go to short tracks. I’m happy to do this. I’m happy to win, for one.

“To drive by the caliber of cars we drove by tonight and have a game plan and stick with it, and read the racetrack all night, I thought I was on top of it.”

Daum has long been an established name in the open-wheel dirt world for his accomplishments in Non-Winged cars, having won four national Midget championships in his career. He’s become a contender around the Midwest with the wing on as well, with four wins in MOWA Sprint Car Series competition and the 2021 Series championship. But with only 13 previous national ASCS main event starts and two top-10 finishes to his name, Daum had to give a masterful performance to beat ASCS’s best in their homeland.

What’s more — he made the 450-plus-mile tow from Illinois to Oklahoma to compete in his second Fall Fling with zero crew help. But it paid off in the end.

“I know these wins are a little bit sweeter when you do everything yourself,” Daum said. “I do the motor maintenance; we build our own engines. We basically do everything in-house. Do it all in-house and go race by yourself; it’s cool. It’s especially satisfying to me, more than anything.

“You know that what you’re doing is right. What you’re working toward all week. What you’re trying to accomplish is worth it in the end.”

While Hafertepe slipped back to third on the final lap, his showing in the event was more than enough to secure an unprecedented sixth national ASCS championship. In hoisting the Emmett Hahn Trophy, he breaks the tie between he and the late Jason Johnson for most national ASCS titles all-time. His team at Hill’s Racing also secure their fifth owner’s championship after pairing with Hafertepe in 2018.

Six titles puts Hafertepe, 40, of Sunnyvale, TX, above all others in season-long Series history. But that hasn’t satisfied his hunger for domination.

“I’m excited about it and I’m happy about it, but I don’t know if six is enough for me,” Hafertepe said. “I don’t know if it’s, ‘I got to six and I’m happy and I’m content.’ We dominated for so long with this series when we ran it that… even last year, I felt like we dominated and just had bad luck and lost the championship.

“Six is just one more than another guy. In everybody’s world, the value of six ASCS national championships in this time period might be different to different people. What I take with me is, I beat the best people I could when I raced with them. And that’s all you can do.”

Polesitter Matt Sherrell came back on the last lap and overtook Hafertepe to finish second. Kansas native Andrew Deal charged from 11th to finish fourth, while ninth-starting Seth Bergman completed the top five.

Hahn Bests Chappell in GWC Finish to Fall Fling Opener at Creek County

Emily Schwanke

SAPULPA, OK (Nov. 14, 2025) — Under a bright spotlight at his home track with friends, family and sponsors watching, Blake Hahn pulled through when it mattered most.

Hahn, the two-time American Sprint Car Series champion from Sapulpa, OK, scored his third Series victory of the season Friday night, passing veteran racer Zach Chappell for the lead on a green-white-checkered finish and holding on for the win at Creek County Speedway.

This wasn’t just another triumph at the track built by grandfather and Series founder, Emmett Hahn. This one came on opening night of the 10th edition of Fuzzy’s Fall Fling — the event that honors Blake’s late grandmother.

“Any time we can be on top, it’s great, but to be on top at this race, it means that much more,” he said. “It’s a good momentum start for the weekend and, hopefully, we can finish it strong tomorrow.”

From the drop of the green until the final circuit, Chappell appeared to be the man to beat at the head of the field. The 2001 Series champion from Talala, OK, took the lead from Chance Morton on Lap 2 and paced the field around the 1/4-mile oval while Hahn began his march forward from fifth on the starting grid.

First was Chance Morton. Next came Sam Hafertepe Jr. Then it was the move for second on Matt Covington with five laps remaining. Hahn soon looked up and saw only Chappell and his No. 50z ahead of him with the white flag in the air. And then came the yellow.

With Austyn Gossel spun around in Turn 2, the field was restacked for a green-white-checkered shootout to the finish line. Chappell sat out front under yellow, knowing exactly his plan for the final restart.

“I really wasn’t thinking, I was just trying to keep my car straight,” Chappell said. “Straight and smooth on the bottom was really where I was thinking. I hadn’t seen anybody or heard anybody get to the outside of me. I was just trying to pace myself.”

The green flag waved and Chappell took off around the bottom lane, while Hahn opted for a different strategy.

“Dalton (Seigler, crew chief) was over here telling me to rip the top for one lap, so I bumped the wing back just a little bit and sailed it in on the top,” Hahn said. “It looked like, to me, a few of the guys had been up there and it kinda rolled-in the top in (Turns) 1 and 2, so I was able to get a good run down the back straightaway on the top and then finish it off of 4.”

With plenty of speed heading into Turn 3, Hahn again threw his No. 52 car against the cushion, got a great run off of Turn 4 and beat Chappell back to the flag stand by .148 seconds to take the lead with the white flag in the air.

The two went side-by-side through Turns 1 and 2 once more, but Hahn’s top-side momentum carried him past Chappell down the backstretch and back around to the checkered flag.

“When Zach won in 2001, I was only six years old at that point,” Hahn said. “Zach is still the youngest champion at 18 years old and, obviously, is still a good driver. I said it in my post-race interview — Zach and I are really good friends, so I was kinda cheering him on when I was sitting in about fourth. I was like, ‘Man, I would like to see Zach win this deal.’

“But obviously, we want to win every single one of them. We’re happy to pull it off, and to be able to battle with Zach for the last-lap pass was fun.”

In the end, Chappell held on for a runner-up finish — his best since his last national Series victory in 2010. Though he was only one lap away from his first such win in over 15 years, Chappell was still in high spirits after his first 360 Sprint Car start of the year.

“In hindsight, maybe I should’ve went to the top, but that’s looking in the back,” Chappell said. “I’m not mad at all. I’m still happy with a second place.”

Matt Covington crossed the stripe in third, banking his ninth podium finish of the season on the national circuit. Reigning Series champion Seth Bergman finished fourth while Missouri racer Chase Porter completed the top five.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: American Sprint Car Series Awards Ceremony Closes 34th Season

Emily Schwanke

TULSA, OK (Nov. 17, 2025) — The American Sprint Car Series Class of 2025 took center stage Sunday night in Tulsa, OK, for the annual awards banquet to recognize each driver’s achievements in the 34th season of national ASCS competition.

Dressed in their Sunday best, all 13 full-time competitors on the national Series took to the stage to thank crews, sponsors, reflect and share stories of their time on the road racing in the country’s oldest national 360 Sprint Car circuit. For their efforts, a collection of trophies and special awards were handed out in recognition of their accomplishments.

THE CHAMPION — For an unprecedented sixth time, Sam Hafertepe Jr. once again stands atop of 360 Sprint Car racing and the American Sprint Car Series.

For five-straight seasons, from 2016–2020, the Texas native reigned supreme over the national 360 circuit, winning five-straight championships to match the late Jason Johnson’s all-time record. After falling one spot short of the peak of the mountain in his return to full-time ASCS racing last year, Hafertepe and the Ontario-based Hill’s Racing Team made certain they would be atop their game in 2025.

Together, they delivered, winning 11 Features with 22 top-fives and 27 top-10 finishes in 32 main event starts in pursuit of the Emmett Hahn Trophy. In addition to Hafertepe’s sixth championship as a driver, the Hill’s Racing Team garners its fifth national ASCS owners title after joining forces with Hafertepe in 2018.

“There’s a lot of people that make this possible for me,” an emotional Hafertepe spoke to his peers on stage. “Miles Hill — what a time to get a car owner that believed in a guy that ain’t really done much. That guy, he set my world on fire. We all work so hard, and then we all pray for the opportunity. And I was given that opportunity.”

In clinching championship number six, Hafertepe has surpassed Johnson for most national ASCS points titles all-time. While he still trails four-time national champion Gary Wright in Feature wins (128), Hafertepe expressed his still-present drive in chasing not only Wright’s wins record, but more national points championships as well.

“I’m so ecstatic about six, but six ain’t enough for me,” he said. “We had this conversation two or three years ago, ‘What would the number be?’ And I’m like, ‘Man, I don’t know what I’m doing from this day to the next.’ I don’t even know from one year to the next — my kids are getting older and I devote all this time, and I don’t devote the time that I used to because my kids are more important now.

“I don’t know how long it’s going to last. But as long as I’m still able to do it, and as long as it seems feasible to me, I think 10 is the number.”

In addition to the Emmett Hahn Trophy, Hafertepe was also awarded a brand-new set of ASCS-spec cylinder heads, courtesy of BRODIX.

BRODIX ROOKIE OF THE YEAR — There’s a first time for everything, and Garrett Benson certainly won’t forget his first campaign with the American Sprint Car Series.

At only 15 years of age, the Missouri native becomes the youngest Rookie of the Year winner in ASCS history, which was previously established by Cole Wood, who was 17 years old when he claimed the honor in 2013.

His first full season behind the wheel of a Sprint Car ended with a fifth-place finish in the championship points standings, four top-five finishes, 19 top-10s and a best finish of third on three occasions — all within 29 Feature starts.

For his efforts, Benson received a brand-new set of ASCS-spec cylinder heads, courtesy of BRODIX.

SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD — Good finishes and points championships are important and help write the legacy of the sport’s greatest drivers. But it’s a driver’s respect for their competition that stands out most in the pit area.

Matt Covington was presented with the award — much to his surprise — for his outstanding respect for his competitors, officials, and the sport of Sprint Car racing throughout 2025. His positive attitude at the track, day after day, made him most deserving of the honor.

“It came as a big surprise because I didn’t do anything special because I was wanting to win the award. I was just being myself,” Covington said. “I think, really, (when) it boils down, I care about the Series and the future of the Series. I’ve dedicated my whole adult life to this Series, so it means a lot with World Racing Group coming in and helping lifting the Series back up meant the world to me. Really, I just have a vested interest in the betterment of the Series, so it just kinda came naturally.”

JASON JOHNSON HARD CHARGER AWARD — It’s not always about starting up front. It’s about how you get there and stay there that matters.

Brady Baker was exemplary in the art of passing cars in Feature events this season, notching seven Hard Charger honors. No other driver had more than two.

The 17-year-old Arkansas racer was presented with the Jason Johnson Hard Charger Award for his passing mastery to compliment his eighth-place finish in the championship points standings.

LEE MAIER CREW CHIEF OF THE YEAR — Drivers perform their best with a loyal and knowledgeable crew chief by their side. This year, Kyler Johnson had one with him that stood out among the rest in brother Kahne Johnson.

Kahne, only 20 years old, joined his brother’s team in the crew chief position before the 360 Knoxville Nationals in July, and made vast improvements in Kyler’s results, cutting his average finish in half and making him most worthy of top mechanic honors for 2025 — presented by 1992 American Sprint Car Series champion, Garry Lee Maier.

GARY WRIGHT DETERMINATION AWARD — In only his second season following the ASCS trail, Terry Easum went through the typical trials and tribulations experienced by so many drivers in the early years of their development.

But the Oklahoma native pushed through vigilantly to receive the Gary Wright Determination Award, notching three top-five finishes and five top-10s on the national circuit in 2025, doing it all alongside his only full-time crew member — fiancée Kacee Frazier.

REGIONAL HONORS — Five regional counterparts to the national ASCS circuit crowned champions in 2025 as well as masters of 360 Sprint Car racing in their respective areas. Of those five, Sean McClelland and Bryan Gossel were in attendance to accept their championship trophies.

McClelland ended his season with one win, four top-fives and six top-10 finishes over the nine-race schedule, good enough to earn him a sixth ASCS Sooner Region championship. Gossel clinched his first ASCS championship as king of the Western Plains Region, banking two wins, five top-fives and seven top-10s over the 10-race slate.

Each of the 13 full-time drivers in the 2025 American Sprint Car Series championship points standings were also awarded their points fund checks as follows:

  1. Sam Hafertepe Jr. ($40,000)
  2. Matt Covington ($25,000)
  3. Blake Hahn ($20,000)
  4. Jason Martin ($15,000)
  5. Garrett Benson ($12,000)
  6. Kyler Johnson ($10,000)
  7. Zach Blurton ($9,000)
  8. Brady Baker ($8,000)
  9. Austyn Gossel ($7,000)
  10. Ryder Laplante ($6,000)
  11. Landon Britt ($2,000)
  12. Terry Easum ($1,500)
  13. Brogan Carder ($1,000)

The 2026 ASCS season begins with three races at Volusia Speedway Park — Jan. 29–31 — as part of the Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals.

Tickets are on sale now at DIRTcarNationals.com. If you can’t be there, stream every lap live on DIRTVision.

WHERE THE HEART IS: Creek County’s Evolution from Micro Sprint Hotspot to ASCS Homeland

Emily Schwanke

SAPULPA, OK (Nov. 13, 2025) — Creek County Speedway has seen plenty of evolution in 40 years of operation, but one thing remains the same. It’s home for the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS).

It’s where owner/founder and former racer Emmett Hahn spawned the idea of the traveling Sprint Car tour. It’s where 34 Series events have taken place in the 34-year history of the country’s only national 360 Sprint Car organization. It’s where the 10th running of Fuzzy’s Fall Fling gets the green flag in the season finale for both the national Series and the ASCS Sooner Region this Friday–Saturday night.

And to think the idea of the track was born one night at nearby Port City Raceway.

“I was still racing at the big track then, and I had a pretty good following, and I had about 12 of my people and fans come out just to watch races,” Hahn said. “One of them had stopped by a convenience store and got a soft drink, and (the owner) wouldn’t let him in with that soft drink. And so, I thought, ‘You know, I think I can just build my own racetrack.’ So that’s the reason I bought it.”

In 1985, Hahn officially opened the track — originally named “66 Raceway Park” — as a 1/5-mile oval for Micro Sprint competition, and it didn’t take long for the track to establish itself as the place to race around the Tulsa area.

“I got a lot of cars,” Hahn said. “My first Fall Fling when I was running one class of Micros, I had 273 in one class.”

Six years after its establishment, Hahn began expansion of the track to its current 1/4-mile configuration, which was first raced in 1991. While the Micro Sprint division remained, Hahn’s aim was to attract a wider variety of cars and spectators.

“Me being smart — I thought well I’ll just build me a bigger track, and I can run bigger cars and make bigger money,” Hahn said with a laugh. “Never made much money after I made it bigger.”

Since then, the track has operated on a weekly basis for a variety of different car types including Modifieds, Street Stocks and more, in addition to nearly 100 ASCS events. For the 2025 season, Hahn turned the day-to-day operations of the facility over to grandson Matt Ward and his wife Ashleigh, who have been helping around the track for years in addition to their duties as directors of Hahn’s marquee Chili Bowl Nationals and Tulsa Shootout events.

As several others in the region will echo, there’s a reason the track has garnered continuous support for over four decades.

“It’s short bullring, it’s tight, and it just produces great racing here,” Ward said. “I just tell everybody to come out. If you want to see great racing, come here.”

The Wards spearheaded a renovation project at Creek County before the start of the 2025 weekly season that made several improvements to the property, including new lights in the pit area and around the racetrack, new poles, cables and fencing on the frontstretch and in front of the pit grandstands, new guardrails, added handrails in the main grandstands, and a new concession stand for alcoholic beverage sales — much to Hahn’s approval.

“We upgraded a lot of things in a short amount of time,” Ward said. “Thankfully, for a great team out here, we got them all accomplished. We still have some offseason projects this year that we’re gonna do, and we’re gonna continue to grow this place and improve it and carry on my family’s legacy here.”

“When we finished last year, they started tearing a lot of the stuff down because it had been there for a long time,” Hahn said. “They basically rebuilt that whole racetrack. New poles, new lights, new fence. They’ve really made some nice improvements on it and they’ve done a good job of running it this year. A real good job.”

This weekend, Creek County hosts one of the biggest events on its schedule in Fuzzy’s Fall Fling. It’s an event that not only caps the ASCS season but honors the life and legacy of Emmett Hahn’s wife, Wokeeta “Fuzzy” Hahn — one which Ward takes as much pride in putting on as any of his other involvements throughout the year.

“I want it to be where my grandpa can come out here and relax and enjoy himself,” Ward said. “I don’t want him stressing about what we need to do to the racetrack, or if this thing’s handled or that. I want everything do already be done so when he gets here and he comes and asks me or Ashleigh, we’re already there to tell him that it’s already handled and everything’s good to go.”

Hahn still projects his wife’s spirit around Creek County to this day. Her name was added to the Fall Fling event after her passing in 2021, honoring her dedication to her family’s beloved tradition of dirt track racing.

“They say, ‘Behind all men is a good woman.’ She worked out there every bit as hard as I did,” Hahn said. “She had a lot of good ideas. We thought we’d just name this Fall Fling after her.”

Tickets to the 10th running of Fuzzy’s Fall Fling will be sold at the track on race day. If you can’t be there, stream every lap live on DIRTVision.

Here are the drivers to watch and storylines to follow this weekend:

JOB’S NEARLY DONE — This weekend, Sam Hafertepe Jr. looks to make ASCS history in locking up a sixth national Series championship.

The 40-year-old from Sunnyvale, TX, takes a 166-point lead into the final two races of the season, spurred by a total of 11 Feature wins, 21 top-fives and 26 top-10s in 30 starts. Clinching a sixth national championship would give him the most of any driver and break the tie between he and the late Jason Johnson for most all-time. His team at Hill’s Racing would also hoist the Emmett Hahn Trophy for the second consecutive season, giving them five total national ASCS owner’s titles with Hafertepe as the driver.

Historically, Creek County Speedway has been one of Hafertepe’s best tracks in ASCS competition. In 20 career ASCS starts there, he’s amassed eight wins, 12 podium finishes and 16 top-10s. Three of those wins have come within the last two seasons, including the 2024 ASCS Speedweek race, the Fall Fling finale last November, and the most recent national ASCS event there this past July.

YOUNGEST GUN — At only 15 years of age, Garrett Benson is on track to make some ASCS history of his own in capping his first full-time season in a 360 Sprint Car.

The native of Concordia, MO, is the current Brodix Rookie of the Year points leader by 147 over Brady Baker. Should Benson clinch over the weekend, he’ll become the youngest Rookie of the Year in Series history, besting Cole Wood, who was 17 years old when he won the honor in 2013.

Benson has had a strong first season on the national circuit, collecting four top-fives and 18 top-10 finishes in 27 main event starts, ranking him fifth in the overall championship points standings. Creek County is one of the tracks he’s most familiar with in his budding career, having made 24 recorded starts at the track in Micro Sprint competition, including one Feature win in 2020. His first ASCS appearance came in July, when he recorded a sixth-place finish in the main event.

HOME TRACK ADVANTAGE — Few know their way around Creek County like Blake Hahn.

The two-time Series champion from Sapulpa, OK, has won a total of 12 Features in his career at his home track, including his signature yellow Winged 360 Sprint Car, a Non-Wing Sprint Car with the USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series Freedom Tour, and twice in POWRi-sanctioned Midget competition. Six of those wins have come in ASCS Sooner Region competition; the latest of which came on opening night of the Fall Fling one year ago.

With two Feature wins, 16 top-fives and 23 top-10s in 31 starts to his name this season, Hahn currently sits third in the championship points standings, looking to make up 64 points on Matt Covington to take to the runner-up spot in final points. In June, Hahn ran second to Hafertepe in the Don Swope Classic and won the Sooner Region event at the track in April.

SIX FOR SEAN — With a 166-point lead in the points standings, Sean McClelland is on track to clinch his sixth ASCS Sooner Region championship, which would extend his record of most championships all-time for the region.

The 51-year-old from Tulsa, OK, has won eight Sooner Region races at Creek County in his career. But his biggest triumph at the local track came in 2023, when he topped the national Series field for only the second time in his career and first in 17 years after taking his first career national ASCS checkered flag at Texas’ Royal Purple Raceway in 2006.

McClelland was the most recent ASCS winner at Creek County, topping the Sooner Region event on Sept. 5 to compliment his fourth-place run in the season opener in March.

FROM WAY OUT WEST — California native Kaleb Montgomery will make his first American Sprint Car Series appearance in over five years this weekend behind the wheel of the No. 11A for Lane Goodman and Thomas McElroy.

Montgomery, 25, of Templeton, CA, made his ASCS debut at Merced Speedway in 2020 but has not seen the national 360 Sprint Car series since. However, he’s been a regular of both the 410 and 360 Sprint Car ranks around The Golden State over the past several years, picking up four Feature wins in 2025 between the two varieties, plus a win in Non-Winged competition.

Goodman, of Broken Arrow, OK, has made two national Series starts in his career, and in recent seasons has been a winner of local 305 Sprint Car and Champ Sprint races at Creek County. McElroy has some Micro Sprint starts in his career but has not made any recorded starts since 2019.

Jacob Denney Bookends Xtreme Outlaw Midget Championship with Finale Victory at Millbridge

Emily Schwanke

SALISBURY, NC (November 4, 2025) - Jacob Denney finished the 2025 Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota the way he started: at the top of his car, celebrating a win.

After clinching his first Series title at the Justin Arion Hauling Xtreme Outlaw World Championship presented by Glenn Styres Racing on Tuesday, the Galloway, OH driver took his victory lap with a triumph to cap off the season at Millbridge Speedway.

Brent Crews led the field to the green flag with Karter Sarff and Denney possessing spots inside the top three through the first 10 of the 35 laps around the Salisbury, NC track.

Similar to Monday night, Lap 12 saw a red flag after multiple cars were piled across the track, involving multiple leaders, with Crews being taken out of contention, Sarff making contact with Nick Hoffman, and Denney narrowly missing the accident. That avoidance rewarded Denney with the lead over Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports (KKM) teammate Cannon McIntosh and Key for the ensuing restart.

While building a one-second gap over McIntosh through the green flag run, Denney ran through a mix of lanes with each circuit - running a slider line at the helm until he kept the No. 67 JBL Audio Toyota to the cushion of the 1/7-mile when lapped traffic became a factor.

Denney managed to build a gap over the field to 1.3 seconds until McIntosh jumped over the berm in Turn 3 and came to a halt in Turn 4 - inadvertently involving Chase McDermand tipping onto McIntosh’s No. 71K.

Behind Denney, Sarff clawed his way back into the podium to give the Series champion a fight towards the final sprint to the finish. Denney kept Sarff behind him by 0.3 seconds as he drove towards his 11th win of the season.

“I made the joke when I knew I was ‘High Point’ guy, like ‘Imagine if I miss the wreck because I draw a six tonight, and I barely missed it,” Denney said. “It worked out well in our favor. Tonight was the night where we were close to being fast all night long, and I got to thank Kaleb (Wyrick). It’s a dream to sit in there and hold the foot to the floor, and Tanner and Grant help me have a great car. I really can’t thank all of them enough.”

Sarff finished the night in second place to complete a 12-place comeback after being involved in the Lap 12 accident.

“I’m sure it would have been a hell of a fight up there with Denney,” Sarff said. “He was just as good as us, if not, a tick better. We didn’t have much time to sort things out there, and honestly debated racing after the (accident) happened. But, I’m glad I stayed out, and it was pretty fun.”

Key finished his first season with the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets by posting a third-place finish to earn the 2025 Rookie of the Year honors.

“I’m happy with it,” Key said. “I really didn’t know what to expect coming into my first full year on a national Midget schedule. We had our ups and downs, but I’m proud of how it went, and I’m proud of the team.

“After last night, if you told me I’d run podium tonight, I wouldn’t have believed you because I felt like a fish out of water. This place is so different than anything I’ve ever been on and used to. I definitely wasn’t the best car tonight, but we hung on and let everyone else crash out, and we wound up here. Sometimes, you gotta do that, and I’m happy with how it turned out and finish the year like this.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Chronicling Jacob Denney’s Historic Year in the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets

Emily Schwanke

CONCORD, NC (November 10, 2025) - Jacob Denney put an exclamation mark on his record-making 2025 campaign when he officially claimed his first Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota championship.

In his first full season with the Series, the Galloway, OH driver recorded astonishing numbers behind the wheel of Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports (KKM) No. 67 JBL Audio Toyota. All season long, he and the team created new all-time season records at almost every track they visited.

“You need a good team behind you,” Denney said. “A lot of people help chip in and working with these guys is a testament. I’d say it's more of the team, because consistency in top fives and top 10s like we’ve had goes a long way. They’re reliable to be there to help every night.”

Let’s take a look at what Denney achieved:

11 - Denney’s number of wins scored on the Xtreme Outlaw Midget trail is the first time a driver has claimed double-digit triumphs in a season, outmatching Cannon McIntosh and Chase McDermand’s combined single-season record of six wins from 2024 and 2023, respectively. By the halfway point of the campaign at Tulsa Speedway, Denney had tied the record, then added five more trips to Victory Lane through the final 11 races of the season.

10 - There were only two tracks on the 2025 Xtreme Outlaw Series schedule Denney had been to before – I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park and Jacksonville Speedway. But he ventured into the unknown unfazed, winning at 10 tracks he’d never seen before.

203 - The Ohioan’s number of circuits at the helm of the field accounts for the most recorded in a single season. If you only took his laps led statistics from the 2025 season exclusively, Denney would be placed fourth on the all-time lap leaders list. Adding onto his career stats with the Series, he finishes the year with a third-place standing on the all-time list with 229 laps.

23 – There were 23 races this season, and Denney earned a top-10 in all 23. And of those events, he earned a top-five finish in 20 of them. He only finished outside the top-five at Airport Raceway (eighth), Coles County Speedway (seventh), and Millbridge Speedway (10th).

13 - Spanning from the St. Louis Firecracker Faceoff finale at I-55 to the Honest Abe Roofing Open Wheel Showdown at Jacksonville, Denney finished inside the podium through 13 consecutive races. The streak of podium finishes is the most by any driver in Series history.

2.65 - Denney’s staggering average finish shows his consistency at finishing inside the top five through the majority of Xtreme Outlaw Features contested. His results throughout the year trumped McIntosh’s 2024 record of 3.31.

8 - Jacob knew how to stay at the pinnacle of the field, earning the most High Point honors for any Xtreme Outlaw Midget driver in a single season. He swept the award at I-55 and Millbridge and drew the No. 6 pill the most with five for the Feature’s invert draw.

47.8 – Denney’s win record this year also came with a staggering average win percentage of having won nearly half the season. When the Series reached the halfway point at Tulsa Speedway, he had won half the Feature races up to that point and then maintained that status until the season’s end.

0 - The number can equate to multiple statistics from Denney’s season, which includes never falling off the lead lap and posting no DNFs from any session he brought the No. 67 to. His worst finish all season was a last-place finish during a Heat Race at I-55. But then, in the Feature, he drove from 24th to the win.

20 - The KKM driver owns the most national Midget wins of any driver this year, which also includes six wins with POWRi and three with USAC. On top of winning the Xtreme Outlaw Midget title, Denney clinched his first championships with POWRi and the Xtreme Outlaw-POWRi Challenge Series as well.

Though the 2025 Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series season has come to a close, you can be sure to follow along on our social media pages on FacebookX, and Instagram for all the latest updates.

BROTHERS IN ARMS: How Kahne Johnson Helped Brother Kyler’s 2025 Season Progression

 Emily Schwanke

CONCORD, NC (Nov. 7, 2025) — Kyler Johnson has seen a remarkable turnaround in the second half of 2025, thanks in part to the efforts from his newest crew member.

Younger brother Kahne Johnson joined the Quinter, KS-based team in the crew chief role halfway through Kyler’s fourth campaign with the American Sprint Car Series this year, and the results speak for themselves.

Kyler’s first 11 Feature starts of the season produced only two top-fives and three top-10 results with an average finish of 12.5. In his next 12, the 22-year-old collected five top-fives, nine top-10s, with an average finish of 6.5.

The brothers have been working together for only a few months, but the progress they’ve made in that short time has been making all the difference on track.

“I think we’re getting a lot better at communicating what [Kyler’s] feeling, and me combining what he’s telling me what he’s feeling inside the car along with what I’m seeing from outside the car,” Kahne said. “Obviously, my dad is there as well to chime in on what he sees. But we’re getting a lot better at him being to communicate with me.”

At 20 years old, Kahne shares the distinction as the Series’ youngest full-time crew chief with Chase Richards, who joined Jason Martin Motorsports in May.

Growing up alongside Kyler and younger sister Kendyl, Kahne and the Johnson family have been in dirt track racing for decades — spurred by their father, CJ Johnson, who raced Sprint Cars through the 1990s and 2000s before retirement in the 2010s. CJ gave all three children their first start in motorsports in the flat-kart ranks.

When Kyler moved up to a Sprint Car in the late 2010s, Kahne came around the track in support of his brother. Watching the ways of the winged, open-wheel cars circle the tracks at high speeds, it was there that Kahne spawned a newfound curiosity for Sprint Car anatomy.

“At first, when Kyler started racing, I was a little bit jealous of it because I wanted to be the one racing,” Kahne said. “But the more I got to learn about being a crew chief and everything, the more I realized there’s a lot more to it than you would think. I realized that you can also still be competitive with your team being a crew chief as you would a driver and realizing the crew chief is just as important as the driver when it comes to this sport.”

His first job on a Sprint Car crew came in the summer of 2023, working as a tire prep specialist for Missouri veteran racer Brian Brown. The following season, Kahne joined fellow Missourian Ayrton Gennetten’s operation, working as both a tire prep and car chief, which gave him his first look into making decisions on a racecar.

“Those two stints, especially the one with Gennetten, really helped me because he was a really good mentor on why he does certain things,” Kahne said. “(Brown’s program) was more so just him and Chad (Morgan) that would talk about the car, and I would just do tires and stuff. Whereas Gennetten really helped me understand why you do certain things and why he does it and what the meaning behind it is. So, I learned a lot last year with them.”

For the start of 2025, Kahne decided on a more typical employment path, taking a job as a traveling salesman of residential solar panels through the month of June. But then came the call of duty back to racing, rejuvenating his crew chief role as part of Kyler’s operation.

“I just kinda missed the racing deal too much, and I just decided that if I’m not gonna be enjoying what I’m doing, then why am I doing it,” Kahne said. “I’ve always enjoyed Sprint Car racing, I’ve always enjoyed being at the racetrack. So, I came back to one — help with Kyler’s race team and everything, and two — my dad wasn’t in the greatest of health at the time, so I came back to help in that regard, as well.”

They set the bar high in their first weekend together, posting back-to-back podium finishes with the national Series at WaKeeney Speedway and El Paso County Raceway in August. But their finest moment came at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park in September, when Kyler led 20 laps of the main event and finished a career-best second place.

“We just went with the baseline stuff, and we knew it was gonna be a good night after Hot Laps when he came in and had no complaints,” Kahne said. “He was like, ‘Whatever you did there was perfect; we’ll just leave it for Qualifying.’

“We were just watching the track; tightened it up for the Heat Race. He really liked the direction we were going with how I was tightening it up, so I just kept doing more of that same thing for the Dash and he liked it even more. I just kept doing the same thing, just more aggressively as the night went on. It just kept getting better and better.”

Since taking his first job at turning the wrenches, Kahne has taken an all-in approach at sharpening his skills. Both on and off the track, he’s constantly watching and absorbing new information.

“I just like to watch how the cars work,” Kahne said. “I love to watch David Gravel and Carson Macedo. Those are my two favorite cars to watch because you can just see how beautifully they sit in the corner. I just sit there, watch the race, and just think, ‘How could they possibly get the car to sit that nicely?’”

At the track, Kahne has learned from the more experienced wrenches in the pits as well. He takes pride in the grind to becoming one of 360 Sprint Car racing’s best young minds and has begun to earn the respect from his competition.

“I talk to Dalton (Seigler) a lot — Blake Hahn’s crew chief — about certain stuff,” Johnson said. “He gives me nothing crazy, obviously, because we’re competitors, but he’ll kind of help me out and give me some tips. I’ll be like, ‘Dalton, I have no idea what’s going on, I don’t know why the car’s doing this,’ and he’ll kinda give me a little bit of a… he won’t tell me what to do, but he’ll get my head thinking and get my wheels turning in the right direction, for sure.

“Just bits and pieces that I’ve learned from all the different people that I talk to, trying to be a student of the sport and learn as much as I can.”

The American Sprint Car Series brings the 2025 season to a close Friday–Saturday, Nov. 14–15, at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, OK, in the annual running of Fuzzy’s Fall Fling.

Tickets for both nights of the event will be sold at the track on race day. If you can’t be there, stream every lap live on DIRTVision.

THEIR YEAR: Gravel, Pierce, Williamson Celebrate Season-Long Performances With 2025 Titles

CONCORD, NC (Nov. 8, 2025) – All three champions at World of Outlaws World Finals added another championship trophy to their collection, but that single object represents more than just another title. It tells the story of their year. Their incredibly successful year.

David Gravel earned his second consecutive World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series championship, Bobby Pierce earned his second World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision title, and Mat Williamson added another chapter to his expansive career with the Super DIRTcar Series by adding a third championship.

While each had their own dirt road to travel to those titles, all three produced seasons that will be looked back upon with wonder.

Gravel, of Watertown, CT, reached 120 World of Outlaws wins with his 17th victory of the season at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, putting him two wins away from tying Danny Lasoski for sixth on the all-time wins list. He also matched records that haven’t been seen since Donny Schatz’s last championship run in 2018, reaching at least 17 wins in a season and collecting 40 podium finishes.

His second title puts him in rare company, joining the small list of drivers who have won back-to-back World of Outlaws Sprint Car championships, which includes Schatz, Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Jason Meyers, and Brad Sweet.

“I think when you accomplish amazing things in the sport it is always surreal,” Gravel said. “You have to reflect, maybe when you’re older, but you’re so in the game right now and in tune with everything that is going on, just trying to compete night in and night out. It feels good to back it up. Obviously, anyone can have a magical one season, but to back it up like we did, it feels really accomplishing.”

He accomplished all of this in his fifth season driving the No. 2 car for Tod Quiring’s Big Game Motorsports team with Cody Jacobs as his crew chief. They’ve had a steady rise every season the last few years, going from a seven-win season to a 12-win season to a 15-win season to a 17-win season.

“Tod gives us everything that we need. There’s nothing that we don’t have,” Gravel said. “He doesn’t ride our butt every night in or night out, he lets us do our jobs and puts a lot of the control in Cody’s hands, in (his son) Taylor’s hands, and it just works out really, really well. He believes in us. He pays for us to do a good job, and I feel like we do that for him.”

2025 was a year of redemption for Bobby Pierce. Or as he put it: a “vengeance tour.” After losing the 2024 title, ultimately due to a penalty at the beginning of the season that cost him points, the Oakwood, IL native returned with the poise of a champion.

“Sometimes you win things for the first time and you never know if you’re going to win it again,” Pierce said. “So, to do it twice is like, ‘Alright, we’re definitely meant to be here. Now, we’ll try to go and win it a third time.”

While he may not have surpassed his record from his championship season in 2023, Pierce was just as consistent. He earned 11 wins – his third straight season with double-digit wins and the most wins of all drivers – and had an average finish of 5.8, a little shy of his 5.3 average finish in 2023. Of those 11 wins, 10 were at different tracks, eight were at tracks he had never won at before with the World of Outlaws, and three were ones he had never been to before.

“Over the last three years of running the Outlaws, and venturing out, I’m definitely more well-rounded,” Pierce said. “This is my third year racing Longhorn (Chassis). Every year since I’ve been racing Outlaws full-time, I’ve had a Longhorn, and we’ve kind of had to learn that over the last couple years, and I think we’re definitely getting more of a handle on… if it’s not what more to make it go fast, we definitely know, if you mess up, what not to do.”

His last win of the season at Arrowhead Speedway tied him with Billy Moyer Sr. for fifth on the all-time World of Outlaws Late Model wins list with 42 victories. And it only took him three seasons to get there.

Williamson won about every title available to him this year. Along with earning his third Super DIRTcar Series title, the St. Catharines, ON driver also earned his second DIRTcar 358 Modified championship, his fourth Super DIRT Week Billy Whittaker Cars 200 title, and third straight Super DIRT Week DIRTcar 358 Modified Salute to the Troops 150 title.

By winning the two Series titles this year, Williamson has become only the second driver in history to win the Super DIRTcar Series title and DIRTcar 358 Modified title in the same year. The first to do so was Danny Johnson in 1999.

“It’s pretty special,” Williamson said about winning the two Series titles. “It was something I feel like we gave up last year. We had a really good 358 program last year. This year, we turned our focus to trying to get both. The 358 deal is only [nine] races… it is the easier one of the two. I figured if we won that 358 deal, this (Super DIRTcar Series title run) was going to be the hard one.

“I thought we’d have a tough time winning the Super DIRTcar Series, but it ended up being the opposite. We were pretty good with both. Really, the points kind of just fell with the consistency, and we capped it off with an easy end to the year.”

To claim his third Super DIRTcar Series title, Williamson was a master of consistency behind the wheel of the Buzz Chew Racing No. 88 car. In 26 races, he only had one finish outside the top 10, which was an 11th-place finish at Thunder Mountain Speedway in May. Then, he went on a run of 22 top 10 finishes in a row – 19 of which were top five finishes, including his win at The Dirt Track at Charlotte to put a bow on the 2025 season.

“It’s really cool. I dreamed of this moment as a kid,” Williamson said about being on top of the world in Modified racing at the moment. “I started young, and I wanted to win one. In 2019, the first year I started driving for Buzz (Chew), we won one of these [championships]. I thought it would be a one-off. I didn’t think I’d get two. The second one was a lot tougher than the first one. Then, the third one just feels special.

“It’s a culmination of things. Between the throttle sticking at Ransomville, writing a car off, unloading a backup car and going out and winning, I mean, the guys just did a great job all year. It was a pretty special year for me, that’s for sure.”

The journey to another championship for Gravel, Pierce, and Williamson was long. And it was grueling. But they each have another piece of meaningful hardware to help tell the story of their year.

And like all champions, their focus is already on repeating in 2026.

The three series will be back in action in Florida next year. First, the World of Outlaws Late Models kick off their season at Volusia Speedway Park during DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals, Jan. 21-24. Then, Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia will host the season-openers for the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars (Feb. 4-7) and Super DIRTcar Series (Feb. 11-14).
