SUN PRAIRIE SHOOTOUT: Sheldon Haudenschild Bests Emerson Axsom in Angell Park Thriller

The two trade the top spot several times before Haudenschild secures it and hangs on for his fourth win of the season

SUN PRAIRIE, WI (October 19, 2025) - It was quite the weekend for Buckeyes in the state of Wisconsin.

A day after Ohio State football rolled into the “Badger State” and dominated against the home team, Wooster, OH’s Sheldon Haudenschild gave Ohio another reason to celebrate.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars returned to Sun Prairie, WI’s Angell Park Speedway for the first time in nine years for a Sunday showdown, and the historic track didn’t disappoint.

Haudenschild and Emerson Axsom gave the packed house exactly what they came for. Axsom fired off from the pole for the 35-lapper after winning the Toyota Dash, and Haudenschild started a row behind him. Axsom pulled ahead early and rolled the bottom while Haudenschild started to search for speed up top. It didn’t take him long to find it as he ripped by David Gravel for second despite tapping the Turn 2 wall once while making the pass.

It took Haudenschild only two more circuits to track down Axsom and make the pass on the cushion, but just like the Indiana Hoosiers aren’t ready to bow down to the Buckeyes this year, Axsom, a native of Franklin, IN, wouldn’t go away easily. He fired a slider at the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing No. 17 that cleared. The two went back and forth for the next several laps before Haudenschild finally gained the upper hand and pulled away. Axsom closed in late to make things interesting but couldn’t find a route by as Haudenschild took the checkered flag.

It's been a tough couple weeks for Haudenschild working with an entirely new crew following the National Open, but he won’t let that slow him down. He was happy to take Kyle Pruitt, Nate Repetz, and Cole Neuhalfen to Victory Lane.

“I said from the start when I told these guys I was leaving that I’m still going to focus on winning these races,” Haudenschild said. “I’ve stuck to my word on finishing the year out on this thing. A little uncomfortable for me with a whole new set of guys in there, but the crew did a good job.

“I kind of figured I had to run the top in (Turns) 1 and 2, and it about bit me there a couple times. I could enter really good, and it was just really powdery off the top. I just think there was a little bit of a benefit to starting third there and kind of get to see what the other guys were doing. Once I started sliding across the track I didn’t feel good. I started on the top over here and was able to turn down, and I felt it latching up a little bit. I kind of figured he’d try and slide me, and I’d be able to do that.”

The victory was Haudenschild’s fourth of the year and the 46th of his career with The Greatest Show on Dirt.” He also kept his perfect record at Angell Park alive. Haudenschild debuted at the Wisconsin track in 2014 with a victory aboard Chris Hartnell’s Sprint Car, and Sunday’s visit was his first since that night.

Emerson Axsom came home with the runner-up spot for his fourth career World of Outlaws podium as he continues to bang on the door of that first Series victory. The Klaasmeyer/Petry Motorsports pilot came away happy with the speed but also a little disappointed to night end the evening celebrating a victory.

“I was racing with him,” Axsom said. “And he just kept leaving the bottom open, and it allowed me to, with how the track is shaped, to build speed below him and not really break my momentum. He must’ve got a run on me, and then David got by me. I got back by David just trying stuff. It’s just bittersweet. Our stuff is really good right now.”

David Gravel took the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 to a third place finish, marking his Series-leading 38th podium of 2025. The Watertown, CT native’s point lead stands at 138 markers with just five races to go as he closes on a second straight championship.

“It was interesting,” Gravel said. “I felt like the bottom was going to be the place to be in (Turns) 1 and 2 the whole time. Sheldon showed us the top was the place to be, and I saw him almost crash that one time outside of me. I thought maybe he just had a hero lap, but then the next lap he drove around me. Then I kind of got up there and followed him.”

Logan Schuchart and Buddy Kofoid completed the top five.

Donny Schatz took the Sides Motorsports No. 15 from 20th to 12th to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

David Gravel claimed his 23rd Simpson Quick Time of 2025 in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying and set a new track record.

Heat Races belonged to David Gravel (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Emerson Axsom (Real American Beer Heat Two), and Buddy Kofoid (WIX Filters Heat Three).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Emerson Axsom.

Axsom also topped the Toyota Dash.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Conner Morrell.

PUTNAMVILLE PANDEMONIUM: Gravel Wins World of Outlaws Return to Lincoln Park After Contact with Kofoid

The two drivers atop the points come together in the final corner, and the defending champion holds on for the victory

Tyler Carr

PUTNAMVILLE, IN (October 17, 2025) - Anticipation was high Friday night as the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returned to Lincoln Park Speedway, and it didn’t disappoint.

The Putnamville, IN track is famous for so many reasons. It’s a high banked bullring. It routinely builds a monstrous cushion. It produces some of the best Sprint Car racing fans will ever see. The “Hoosier State” oval lived up to every bit of its reputation as The Greatest Show on Dirt came back for the first time in nine years.

David Gravel and Michael “Buddy” Kofoid gave the packed stands a show they won’t soon forget. The two began their battle right off the bat as Kofoid started third but drove by polesitter Gravel on the second circuit to take the top spot. Gravel was far from done as he rallied and reclaimed it on the 13th lap as Kofoid struggled in traffic.

The mid-portion of the race unfolded, and Gravel managed to put some distance between himself and the Roth Motorsports No. 83. Then Kofoid found speed as he migrated his line to the huge curb at the top of the racetrack. The gap between the two shrank and shrank until Kofoid finally pulled the trigger on a slider coming to two laps to go. Gravel crossed under him exiting Turn 2 then moved to the top to take away Kofoid’s line. The two took the white flag, but then the red lights flashed for a flipping Brady Bacon.

The red set the stage for a wild restart. The green flag flew, and Kofoid threw a huge slide job on Gravel in Turns 3 and 4. Gravel dipped below him on the front straightaway to retake command as the white flag flew. Kofoid hammered the cushion to pull alongside Gravel on the backstretch. Kofoid committed to the top in the final set of corners. Gravel slid toward the cushion, but Kofoid was already there and the two made contact. The result? A spun around Kofoid as Gravel drove away to the checkered flag.

“Obviously, you don’t want guys to come together on the last corner racing for the win,” Gravel said. “We were equal, wheel-to-wheel there. I just think we were racing for the same spot, last lap, last corner for the win. I felt like I kind of had position on him down the backstretch. I felt like he kind of forced it to go outside of me. He knew I was going to the cushion. I didn’t wreck him on purpose. I know that, and hopefully he does as well. I don’t want to get into a crash and knock the guy out that we’re racing in points either. I want to win in fair and square. I just got to thank Cody (Jacobs), Zach (Patterson), Pete (Stephens), and Luke (Vaughn) is here helping us out.”

The Watertown, CT native is now up to 16 World of Outlaws victories in 2025 with the Big Game Motorsports team. Gravel elevated his career total to 119, moving him within three of equaling Danny Lasoski for sixth all-time.

Instead of a potential win, a disappointed Kofoid was left with a 14th place finish.

“I felt like we were kind of side by side,” Kofoid said of the final lap. “Then we went into (Turn) 3 he was kind of coming up, and I was kind of already there and didn’t really have an option to move down. I thought for a split second there was a hole and felt like I got most of the way or next to him, and then it just closed up last second. I feel bad for all of the Roth Motorsports crew guys and the whole team. Whether it’s my fault or not, I feel like I let them down.”

Carson Macedo charged the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 from 10th to the runner-up spot and was in line for victory had Gravel also gone around as a result of the contact. The Lemoore, CA native is up to 25 podiums this season.

“I was just in the cat-bird seat hoping that maybe calamity would happen, and I could squeeze in for the win,” Macedo said. “From what I saw, it was just a racing deal. A guy really going for it there. I didn’t think it was going to work, and it didn’t.”

Kofoid sliding down the finishing order allowed Bill Balog to climb onto the podium. A third place run marked the “North Pole Nightmare’s” ninth top three of his sophomore World of Outlaws season.

“We had a super good race car,” Balog said. “I definitely think it was probably a little bit better than the way I was driving it maybe. We had a good car all night. I have to thank Honest Abe Roofing, Anderson’s Maple Syrup, and everybody that helps us out. We just try to do a good job for them. Hats off to Putnamville. Awesome racetrack. This is the kind of thing we needed right here. A short track, great racing, a big curb, and a lot of fun.”

Cole Macedo and Garet Williamson completed the top five.

Kerry Madsen took the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 from 21st to ninth to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Buddy Kofoid earned his third Simpson Quick Time of the year and set a new track record in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races belonged to Bill Balog (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Cole Macedo (Real American Beer Heat Two), Darin Naida (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Logan Julien (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Darin Naida.

David Gravel topped the Toyota Dash.

Kerry Madsen won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Buddy Kofoid.

CONCRETE COMEBACK: Anthony Macri Overcomes Injury, Tames Lincoln to Score Another Victory for the PA Posse

The Dillsburg, PA native didn’t know he’d be able to race until Thursday evening due to an injury, and he ends the weekend in Victory Lane

Tyler Carr

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA (October 11, 2025) - Anthony Macri didn’t even know he’d be able to race this weekend until Thursday night.

A back injury sustained three weeks ago had sidelined him. The Dillsburg, PA native was forced to watch his home state’s crown jewel, the J&S Classics National Open, last week. The itch to get back behind the wheel grew and grew. Finally, medical clearance came Thursday evening, and he climbed aboard the Macri Motorsports No. 39M.

The result? A trip to World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Victory Lane. Macri got reacquainted with the seat on Friday at New Egypt Speedway before a flat tire derailed his night. Then Saturday shifted the scene to home territory for the Pennsylvania Posse star, Abbottstown, PA’s Lincoln Speedway.

Macri advanced from fourth to second in the Toyota Dash to line himself up on the front row for the 35-lap finale. Polesitter David Gravel crossed over a Macri slider and led the first lap, but a yellow on the second circuit gave Macri another shot. This time, Macri opted to rip the fence in Turns 1 and 2, and it paid off as he rocketed around Gravel to take the top spot.

The early laps unfolded, and Carson Macedo quickly asserted himself as a contender as he moved by Gravel for second and closed on Macri. But the engine expired on the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41, ending his night. That elevated Chase Dietz into second, and the York, PA native took a couple peeks under the No. 39M but didn’t have enough. Macri pulled ahead in traffic on his way to Victory Lane.

It was a special night for the 26-year-old. Not only did he get a win so quicky after his injury, he also was victorious on the night Lincoln was celebrating the life of Bobby Allen, who passed away on Sunday, and had a major impact on Pennsylvania, a member of Macri’s team, and the sport as a whole.

“I’m not 100-percent physically,” Macri admitted. “I was getting winded. I could tell I was out of the seat for three weeks. I just kind of had to concentrate on my breathing and pace myself. Going into this weekend, I was honestly just hoping for a top five.

“What better car than a PA car to win the Bobby Allen race. I wanted it for the hometown people. Jacob (Allen) and Logan (Schuchart), our hearts go out to them. I wanted to win it for Joe Mooney (his crew chief) bad too. They (Shark Racing, Allen’s team) had a big part in him getting into Sprint Car racing. He started his career there, and Joe wouldn’t be where he is today without them.”

Macri’s win was his 15th overall Sprint Car checkered flag in 2025 and fourth with The Greatest Show on Dirt. He also secured bragging rights for the Posse as the locals topped four of the six battles against the World of Outlaws in 2025, and Macri was responsible for three of them. His one triumph outside of Pennsylvania against the country’s best Sprint Car drivers was at Eldora Speedway’s Kings Royal in July.

The Posse also owned the second step of the podium as it went to Chase Dietz in the Stehman Motorsports No. 23D. He was also the runner-up at Lincoln in May when the World of Outlaws came to town. Add those two results to his win last Friday at Williams Grove Speedway, and he wound up with a trio of top threes in 2025 against the nation’s top talent.

“We were doing such a good job on those restarts,” Dietz said. “I just needed to get close enough. I just kind of drove up to the side of him, and really at that point it’s just a matter of him making a mistake. But he’s been in that position too often, and he didn’t make any mistakes there.”

Third belonged to Michael “Buddy” Kofoid aboard the Roth Motorsports No. 83 as the Penngrove, CA native was the only World of Outlaws representation on the podium. The big story for the 23-year-old was David Gravel’s troubles. The defending champion slowed with issues under the hood after 12 laps and was unable to get out of the Federated Car Care Work Zone. That combined with Kofoid’s finish allowed him to cut Gravel’s advantage atop the standings from 148 markers to 106. Championship hope stayed alive for Kofoid with eight races to go.

“I felt good,” Kofoid said. “It’s funny because I started fourth, got to third, kind of raced for second, and then back to fourth back to third back to fourth. I was kind of back and forth. I felt good. I just needed longer runs. I felt like I couldn’t really get going on the short runs and just struggled a little bit. The car would like come back to life as the runs went on.”

Sheldon Haudenschild and Troy Wagaman Jr. completed the top five.

Tyler Ross went from 26th to 13th to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Anthony Macri claimed his second Simpson Quick Time of 2025 and the eighth of his career in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races belonged to Anthony Macri (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Buddy Kofoid (Real American Beer Heat Two), David Gravel (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Carson Macedo (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Chad Trout.

David Gravel topped the Toyota Dash.

Cole Macedo won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to David Gravel

NEW TRACK, NO PROBLEM: Carson Macedo Shines in his New Egypt Debut with World of Outlaws

The Californian holds off Logan Schuchart to equal one of his heroes on the all-time win list

Tyler Carr

NEW EGYPT, NJ (October 10, 2025) - Carson Macedo had never seen New Egypt Speedway until Friday night.

Could one of the sport’s most uniquely shaped dirt tracks puzzle and slow one of the best Sprint Car drivers in the country? Nope.

Macedo looked like he had years of experience as he hit the New Jersey oval for the first time aboard the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars. The Lemoore, CA native lined up outside the front row for the 30-lap Feature and snuck around Logan Schuchart on the top to pace the opening circuit.

That wound up being the winning move as Macedo never relinquished the lead. A motivated Schuchart, who was trying to win the first race following his grandfather Bobby Allen’s passing earlier this week, stayed close behind for nearly the duration of the main event. The Shark Racing pilot even looked underneath Macedo on a few occasions, but no run was enough. Macedo held him off and took the checkered flag in his first ever night at New Egypt.

“Hats off to JJR, they did a great job,” Macedo said. “Traffic was tough. I knew the start was going to be critical, and I kind of just sent it up there as hard as I could up top, and it worked out. I stuck and was able to get around Logan. I knew that he was all over me in traffic. I could hear him, and I saw him the one time getting into Turn 3. There just wasn’t really a lot I could do.

“I just wanted to make sure I kept my momentum up, kept my speed up and didn’t let anybody beat me down into (Turn) 3, and it worked out. I was a little nervous there at the end because the rubber was laying down there in (Turns) 3 and 4 on the bottom. It was really clean down there and grippy. In (Turns) 1 and 2, I felt like I was better higher. The higher I would run, the more speed I would have off the corner. Hats off to JJR. Philip Dietz did an incredible job all night, made great adjustments. Adam Zimmerman and Robby McQuinn worked their tails off.”

Macedo and the JJR crew are up to 11 Series victories in 2025. Friday marked the 58th of Macedo’s career with the World of Outlaws, equaling him with one of his heroes and fellow Californian, Jason Meyers, for 16th all-time. Macedo becomes the sixth different driver through 10 visits to top a race with The Greatest Show on Dirt at New Egypt.

The runner-up spot went to Logan Schuchart. He wanted more than anything in the world to take the team his “pappy” built to Victory Lane. The Hanover, PA native might’ve not gotten the win, but his finish was still a worthy way to honor “Scruffy.” The Shark team was one many doubted would even make it through their first year with the World of Outlaws in 2014. But led by Bobby Allen, they not only made it, but they kept going. Now, here Schuchart and the Shark Racing team are 11 years later, carrying on Allen’s legacy by racing with the best in the nation and running up front.

“That guy was my hero,” said a choked up Schuchart of his grandfather. “I wanted to get out here and do that for him. But to come here and be on the podium after my mind is in all kinds of places is good. I talked to him plenty of times this week. I asked for his guidance because I knew my mindset wouldn’t be at 100-percent. He loved this thing and built a legacy for Jacob (Allen) and I to continue it while he’s gone. I could feel him. I know he’s there.”

David Gravel brought the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 home third. His Series-leading podium total is up to 36 as consistency carries the Watertown, CT toward a second consecutive World of Outlaws title.

“It was just kind of track position there,” Gravel said. “I’m just glad we passed some cars in the Dash. When you’ve got the best six cars up front, it’s hard to pass guys. Carson won the start, and that kind of won the race. Lapped traffic got somewhat interesting there, and I feel like I had a couple shots at Logan. (Turns) 1 and 2 was just starting to get interesting, and I kind of felt the bottom there come in and then Logan kind of took my line.”

Buddy Kofoid and Sheldon Haudenschild completed the top five.

Hunter Schuerenberg took the Vermeer Motorsports No. 55 from 21st to sixth to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

David Gravel grabbed his third consecutive Simpson Quick Time and his 22nd of the year in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races belonged to David Gravel (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Carson Macedo (Real American Beer Heat Two), and Cole Macedo (WIX Filters Heat Three).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Logan Schuchart.

Schuchart also topped the Toyota Dash.

Garet Williamson won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Bill Balog.

NATTY O-HIO: Sheldon Haudenschild Captures Elusive National Open Title After Battle with Balog

The Wooster, OH native bests Bill Balog and holds off Danny Dietrich for $75,000 at Williams Grove

Tyler Carr

MECHANICSBURG, PA (October 4, 2025) - Sheldon Haudenschild is finally a J&S Classics National Open champion.

No more close calls. No more settling for second. No more “we’ll get them next year.” Haudenschild got the job done in 2025 at the Williams Grove Speedway crown jewel.

He was fifth in 2020 and climbed to third in 2021. Two years later, the Wooster, OH native was back in the top five. A year ago, he finished a close runner-up to Carson Macedo and might’ve won if the race would’ve been a lap longer. This year, he wouldn’t be denied.

It was by no means an easy 40-lap journey to the “Natty O” title. Bill Balog led the field to green and made it clear early that he’d be a force. The “North Pole Nightmare” drove away from the battle for second in the first half. Behind him, Haudenschild, Michael “Buddy” Kofoid, and Danny Dietrich slugged it out for second.

Haudenschild finally gained control of the spot on the 29th circuit and went to work chasing down Balog. He closed and closed until the door opened on Lap 35 when Balog tripped on the cushion in Turns 1 and 2 and Haudenschild slipped by on the bottom. But the war for the win was far from over.

Balog got back up on the wheel and started hammering away on the curb as Haudenschild remained committed to the low side. The North Pole, AK native kept building momentum and closed right on the tail tank of the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing/NOS Energy Drink No. 17 down the straightaways. The white flag flew, and Balog ripped the top in the first set of corners and nearly pulled alongside Haudenschild out of Turn 2. But it just wasn’t quite enough as Haudenschild kept clear and drove away to a $75,000 National Open title.

“For one, I had a really good race car,” Haudenschild said. “Hats off to (Kyle) Ripper, Luke (Vaughn), and Jayce (Wallick). You don’t win here without a really good race car. Ripper just tuned on it all night. We kind of had a gameplan. I never really felt comfortable on the cushion all weekend, so we just kind of aborted that mission. I think I ran the top down in (Turns) 1 and 2 maybe once or twice and kind of got tight up there. I just worked that middle in while it was still dark and tried to follow the clean part of the track. I’m just super happy to get this S-J-M (Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing) another win. That’s been our goal: win races for these guys.”

It was announced last month that Haudenschild and the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing team would be going separate ways at the end of this year, and after eight strong seasons together, Haudenschild wants to give them a memorable final stretch. A crown jewel win certainly contributes to that effort.

“I’m super grateful for Richard (Marshall), Jennifer (Marshall), Ricky (Stenhouse Jr.), and Lauren (Albano),” Haudenschild said. “I’ve said it before; they gave me a chance when I was a rookie with no wins, and we won right off the bat with this team. It just feels really good to get this win for them. Super grateful for them. I wish them luck in the future, and I’m excited for my future.”

His first win in the final leg of the sport’s triple crown made Haudenschild the 36th different National Open champion. He’s the first Ohio native to win the Pennsylvania event since Kenny Jacobs in 1988. The nine-year World of Outlaws veteran gave bragging rights back to the travlers a night after Chase Dietz opened the weekend scoring one for the PA Posse. Haudenschild snapped a 33-race winless streak with Saturday’s score, which was the 45th of his career with The Greatest Show on Dirt.

Danny Dietrich slid by Balog on the final lap to claim the runner-up spot for the Pennsylvania Posse. The Gettysburg, PA native was the only driver to earn a podium position on both nights of the National Open. Dietrich might’ve ended the night celebrating a second title in the famed event had traffic played out a little differently.

“I needed to probably move down,” Dietrich said. “I was done, and then a lapped car was running the bottom and that’s where I really wanted to be. I was moving around there behind Bill for a while just feeling the track out especially down in (Turns) 3 and 4, running the middle and floating certain lanes. I really thought I found it and then just couldn’t clear a lapped car. I didn’t commit enough to pulling the wing back and then tried to hustle in into (Turn) 1 twice and hustled it right over the cushion. I’m really lucky to even finish because I thought for sure I was going to be up in the cornfield. We had a really good car.”

Bill Balog came home third after leading the opening 35 circuits. It was a bittersweet night as Balog delivered yet another impressive performance on a big stage this year, but he thought he might’ve been heading toward the biggest win of his career until that late bobble on the cushion.

“It was an awesome racetrack to be honest,” Balog said. “I thought we had that there. I just got bottled up there a couple times. I’d get kind of plugged into the cushion a little too hard, had to cheat it. But this is still a great run for us; Anderson’s Maple Syrup, Honest Abe Roofing, Wayne Corini, he helped me get out here years ago and maybe figure out a little bit about this place. Got to thank the guys for working on it. Pretty amazing night for us.”

Daryn Pittman and Buddy Kofoid completed the top five.

Logan Schuchart wheeled from 14th to seventh to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

David Gravel earned Simpson Quick Time honors in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying to sweep the weekend’s Quick Time awards.

Heat Races belonged to David Gravel (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Carson Macedo (Real American Beer Heat Two), Bill Balog (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Daryn Pittman (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Sheldon Haudenschild.

Bill Balog topped the Toyota Dash.

Lance Dewease won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Conner Morrell.

Kyle Pruitt on Time with Shark Racing, Transitioning to SJMR, 2026 Anticipation

Tyler Carr

CONCORD, NC (October 24, 2025) - Kyle Pruitt pumped his fist in the air before sharing a group hug with new teammates Nate Repetz and Cole Neuhalfen.

They slapped the Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing logo printed on the back of their sweatshirts in celebration after watching their driver, Sheldon Haudenschild, finish off a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series victory at Angell Park Speedway. A month ago, this trio would’ve never expected to be celebrating a win with The Greatest Show on Dirt together. But things don’t always pan out the way they’re expected.

For Pruitt, he started the year as the crew chief for Logan Schuchart. Shark Racing brought him aboard with plans to improve their program, and that’s exactly what Pruitt accomplished. Schuchart’s numbers elevated across the board this season.

“It was a lot of fun,” Pruitt said of his time with Shark. “I got to see all of these tracks, some of them for the first time. Some of them I’ve been to before. And Logan has been on the tour for 12 years, so he has a good grasp on it. We worked well together. I feel like that showed with statistics improving. The major focus was getting his Qualifying better, which then makes the rest of your night not such a battle. We changed a couple things last winter and got his Qualifying efforts better, and it showed. We put him in position, and he can do a good job as a driver. It was a lot of fun. I learned a lot of things from Logan. He’s very knowledgeable, in tune with the cars and in tune with setups and everything. Everybody was great there.”

Pruitt’s performance earned him the opportunity to take over the crew chief role at Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing in 2026 for Spencer Bayston after Sheldon Haudenschild and crew chief Kyle Ripper announced their intentions to depart when 2025 ended.

Plans moved a little quicker than anticipated on both sides as Pruitt’s time with Shark ended at the beginning of October. Then, Ripper’s tenure with SJMR came to a close days later. This opened the door for Pruitt to join his new team early and begin working toward next year while also helping Haudenschild complete his ninth season on tour.

It was a tricky transition as Pruitt had to scrape together a team in less than a week, but he wound up with more than capable teammates to close out 2025. Nate Repetz spent multiple seasons with Jason Johnson Racing and Macri Motorsports, while Cole Neuhalfen worked with Kasey Kahne Racing earlier this year. Things fell in place to bring them aboard.

“Well, really we pulled off a miracle,” Pruitt said with a laugh. “It all happened really quickly. Sheldon and Ripper won the National Open, and that was really cool for them. Then, Ripper was released, and I was asked to come finish the year. Then, the crew guys decided they wanted to leave, which is understandable. Immediately, I was like, ‘Well, I’ve got to find some help here.’ I started making some phone calls. I knew Eric Prutzman, and he offered Cole to come and help, and Cole was all about it. Then, Nate I guess left Macri a few weeks before, and I’ve known him just here and there. Cole was like, ‘Why don’t we call Nate?’And Nate was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it for the last few weeks of the season.’ So, like I said, it was kind of a minor miracle we threw it together, and it’s worked out pretty well.”

Worked out pretty well may be an understatement. They unloaded fast in their first race together at New Egypt Speedway as Haudenschild clocked the quickest time in WEDG High Performance Karts Hot Laps. The night ended with a fifth-place finish, and they followed that up with another top five the next night at Lincoln Speedway. Fast forward a week, and Haudenschild drove the NOS Energy Drink No. 17 to victory at Angell Park in their fourth race since Pruitt joined.

“Everything was in place,” Pruitt said. “They have good equipment, the J&J cars, the Stanton engines run really well. So, when I came in, everything was there. Ripper did a great job making sure everything was organized, ready for battle, if you will, so that part was easy. Then, we got the crew guys together, so that’s another box checked. Sheldon is a professional. He’s been doing this a long time. That box was checked. Then, just like with Schuchart’s, we changed a couple things. The big thing was the Penske shocks for Sheldon. He felt a difference the first night out, but he was a sport about it, a true professional. He was like, ‘Well, I understand what you’re doing, so we’ll work through it.’ And we’ve had speed right out of the gate.”

Only the World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Nov. 5-8) remains on the 2025 schedule. Haudenschild will look to conclude his campaign on a high note, and it’ll also signal a start of the next chapter. SJMR will bring a second car to the “Queen City” as Bayston jumps behind the wheel. If the last couple of weeks are any indication, Pruitt and Bayston have plenty to look forward to.

“I’m very excited,” Pruitt said of working with Bayston. “He’s very professional, has a good image, good character, all that stuff. He’s a great driver and won in many different disciplines, the Midgets, the Sprint Cars. I think, just like with Logan Schuchart or Sheldon, we’re going to have to build a program for him.”

Bayston, Pruitt, and the Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing team will begin the 2026 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series campaign at Volusia Speedway Park’s Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals on Feb. 4-7. For tickets, CLICK HERE.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Penultimate Weekend of the Year Takes World of Outlaws to 81, Arrowhead

The final weekend before World Finals puts the spotlight on America’s Heartland

Emily Schwanke

PARK CITY, KS (October 22, 2025) - The 2025 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series campaign is winding down with only five races remaining in the 48th season of showcasing the country’s best Sprint Car drivers.

This weekend’s agenda is a trip to the country’s Heartland and fires off at 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS on Friday, Oct. 24. The 3/8-mile dirt track has hosted the World of Outlaws on 15 occasions, including once in each of the past two years.

Then, it’s a drive from the “Sunflower State” down to the “Sooner State” where Colcord, OK’s Arrowhead Speedway awaits to host the seventh running of the Jason Johnson Classic presented by FK Rod Ends on Saturday, Oct. 25. The night is all about honoring one of the best men to ever grace the sport of Sprint Car racing. Jason Johnson embodied professionalism as he built Jason Johnson Racing from the ground up and, powered by passion, grew his organization into one of the sport’s top teams. The drivers will battle for the honor of being known as a Jason Johnson Classic champion and a $20,000 payday at the Oklahoma oval.

What started with Florida in February continues to motor toward a conclusion at The Dirt Track at Charlotte’s World of Outlaws World Finals (Nov. 5-8).

Let’s look at the weekend’s top storylines:

ONE WICHITA WINNER: The odds favor 81 Speedway fans seeing a new face in the track’s Victory Lane on Friday. Only one former World of Outlaws winner at the Kansas track is expected to be in the pit area.

It’s no surprise that the lone victor is Donny Schatz. A pair of his 316 career wins have come at 81. The Fargo, ND driver topped back-to-back Series visits separated by 11 years (2006 & 2017). He’s one of three multi-time winners alongside Sammy Swindell (six) and Rico Abreu (two).

Schatz badly wants a third 81 trophy Friday as sand continues to fall in the hourglass of his chances at making sure he ends the season with at least one win. He’s won a World of Outlaws race in 27 consecutive seasons, and a 28th would tie Steve Kinser for the longest streak ever.

RACIN’ FOR THE RAGIN’ CAJUN: There’s one simple goal for Carson Macedo and the Jason Johnon Racing team on Saturday: win. They’ve got no interest in settling for second or any other position.

The JJR team won the event once before, and in the most storybook fashion possible. David Gravel took the No. 41 to Victory Lane in the inaugural running at Lake Ozark Speedway in 2019.

This weekend will mark Macedo’s fifth Jason Johnson Classic since joining the “Ragin’ Cajun’s” team. He was fifth with them in 2021. When the event shifted to 81 Speedway in 2023, Macedo came one spot away from victory. The Lemoore, CA native finished fifth last year when it moved to its current home of Arrowhead.

KNOCKING ON THE DOOR: Donny Schatz might be the only current World of Outlaws competitor with an 81 Speedway victory, but don’t be surprised if David Gravel adds his name to that list on Friday.

The defending Series champion has done everything but win in three appearances at the 3/8 mile. It began with a drive from seventh to third in his 2017 track debut with CJB Motorsports. Gravel returned in 2023 with his current Big Game Motorsports team, and the result was the same – the final step of the podium. The Watertown, CT native climbed a spot last year with an 81 runner-up.

Gravel and the No. 2 crew have had speed everywhere they’ve been this year as they continue to close on another title. They’ve been on the podium in more the half of the races with 38 top threes in 65 Features. Gravel’s average finish is a stellar 3.89. His 16 wins also lead the Series.

PARITY PATTERN: Parity has been the theme through six runnings of the Jason Johnson Classic as we’ve seen six different winners, and two of them will be in attendance Saturday at Arrowhead, aiming to break the trend.

As mentioned above, David Gravel claimed the first edition in 2019. He wheeled from sixth to second in his Arrowhead debut last year, narrowly missing out on becoming the first repeat winner.

Sheldon Haudenschild is the defending event champion. He and Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing took home the trophy and $20,000 check last year as Haudenschild debuted at Arrowhead. The Wooster, OH native enters this weekend with the momentum of an Angell Park victory on Sunday and gets his first shot at a second Jason Johnson Classic triumph.

BATTLES BREWING: With only five races to go, several spots in the points are all but locked up, but a few battles rage on for fans to watch unfold.

The one with the most stakes is between Carson Macedo and Logan Schuchart. Macedo sits third but has Schuchart within striking distance with 62 markers separating the two. A recent expired engine on the JJR No. 41 at Lincoln Speedway tightened the gap. Schuchart and the Shark Racing team have been stout in the season’s second half, finishing worse than seventh only once in the last 22 races.

Donny Schatz has fought some struggles as he’s spent time in four different cars since separating from Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing in August. Those coupled with a surge from Bill Balog have brought the “North Pole Nightmare” to Schatz’s tail tank for sixth in points as 48 points are between the two. Balog has 14 top 10s in the last 18 races, including four podiums.

Garet Williamson has all but locked up the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, but Cole Macedo is making a late run at the season’s second-best rookie spot. The Californian has trimmed the margin between himself and Chris Windom to 24 markers. It’s been an up-and-down campaign for Macedo aboard the TwoC Racing No. 2C, but he’s found his footing in recent weeks with five top 10s in his last seven Features.

Windom and Macedo aren’t the only rookies with a spot to settle as Zach Hampton has a slim 32-point lead over Skylar Gee.

ALL DIRT ROADS: Where the World of Outlaws Rookies Stand with Eight Races to Go

The 2025 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of te Year battle hasn’t disappointed

Tyler Carr

PUTNAMVILLE, IN (October 16, 2025) - Few rookie classes in World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series history have been as deep and competitive as 2025’s.

Cole Macedo was the first to throw his name in the hat all the way back during 2024’s Knoxville Nationals. Once the off-season arrived, the entrants kept coming. The additions weren’t done even once the season started as Conner Morrell came aboard following the conclusion of Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals.

Seven capable competitors signed on to fight for the prestigious Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award. What was so unique about this year’s class was no clear favorite stood out. Various drivers gave reason to believe they’d have a shot, but there was no unanimous selection.

With only a handful of races left before the Rookie of the Year is decided at The Dirt Track at Charlotte’s World of Outlaws World Finals (Nov. 5-8), let’s see where the seven stand.

GARET WILLIAMSON – FISCHER MOTORSPORTS No. 23 (7498 PTS)
Columbia, MO’s Garet Williamson entered the year as one of the favorites for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, and he hasn’t disappointed.

It was a slightly slow start out of the gate with no finish better than 18th through four nights of DIRTcar Nationals racing at Volusia Speedway Park, but making the Feature each night against a stacked field at the season-opening event without using a provisional made it a success for Williamson.

His first top 10 of the season came in the ninth race of the year when he came home seventh at Kennedale Speedway Park. Since then, he’s been the most consistent among the rookies. The 25-year-old has more top fives than all of his competition, including bagging a trio of them during Huset’s High Bank Nationals week in June.

Williamson has made statement after statement over the last several weeks as he appears poised to stand atop the 2025 rookie class. The final nail in the coffin very well might’ve come this past Saturday when he drove by Chris Windom on the final lap of the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown to take the final transfer into the main event. That helped increase his lead over Windom to triple digits.

Stat Line: 6 Top 5s. 23 Top 10s. 12.92 Avg. Finish. 5 Heat Wins. 9 Dash Appearances.

CHRIS WINDOM – SIDES MOTORSPORTS No. 7S (-104 PTS)
Chris Windom’s deal for a rookie World of Outlaws run with Sides Motorsports came together later than most of his competitors, but that hasn’t slowed the USAC Triple Crown champion.

The Canton, IL native was steady over the first couple of months of the season, but then he really hit his stride in mid-May. A 10th-place finish at Ohsweken Speedway ignited a run of eight consecutive top 10 finishes for the NOS Energy Drink No. 7S. Among that stretch was a trio of top fives, including a runner-up at Atomic Speedway.

Windom led the way in the Rookie of the Year battle for much of the campaign, but he started to slip just a tad when August rolled around and Williamson took the top spot away. Some struggles over the last month have allowed Williamson to pull ahead a bit, but Windom still has a shot to get back into the battle with eight races to go.

Stat Line: 4 Top 5s. 21 Top 10s. 13.85 Avg. Finish. 6 Heat Wins. 9 Dash Appearances.

COLE MACEDO – TWOC RACING No. 2C (-156 PTS)
It was an up and down start to the year in Florida for Cole Macedo, which set the stage for a campaign that’s featured a blend of highs and lows for the Lemoore, CA driver.

Macedo and the TwoC Racing crew struggled out of the gate, missing the main event in three of the first four races. Then, when the tour returned for the Bike Week Jamboree, Macedo wheeled from 19th to fifth to become the first rookie to crack the top five in 2025. The next night, mechanical issues led to a 23rd-place result. Then, it was back to a positive note as Macedo led 16 laps at Talladega Short Track before finishing fourth.

A 12th to third drive at Eldora Speedway in May made Macedo the first rookie to notch a podium finish. He’s also the only one among the group to lead laps in multiple Features as he paced the opening 10 circuits at Sharon in September before finishing sixth.

The ups and downs have Macedo sitting third among his competitors. With only 52 points separating him from Chris Windom, the season’s second-best rookie spot is still within reach.

Stat Line: 4 Top 5s. 18 Top 10s. 13.69 Avg. Finish. 2 Heat Wins. 8 Dash Appearances.

HUNTER SCHUERENBERG – VERMEER MOTORSPORTS No. 55 (-362 PTS)
Reunited with Tony Vermeer and with two All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) campaigns under his belt, Hunter Schuerenberg hit the road for his first World of Outlaws campaign in 2025.

It didn’t take long for “Hunter-Percent” to piece together back-to-back top 10s, finishing seventh at Volusia and ninth at Talladega in March. He added two more top 10s at Kennedale Speedway Park and Cotton Bowl Speedway before the month was over.

The highlight of Schuerenberg’s campaign to date came on Memorial Day at Atomic when he brought the Vermeer Motorsports No. 55 home fourth. Last weekend, he notched his best finish since that night by driving from 21st to sixth at New Egypt Speedway, collecting his third KSE Racing Products Hard Charger of the year.

Schuerenberg sits fourth among rookies with a wide gap to both third ahead and fifth behind.

Stat Line: 1 Top 5. 14 Top 10s. 14.18 Avg. Finish. 2 Heat Wins. 5 Dash Appearances.

ZACH HAMPTON – BILL ROSE RACING No. 6 (-552 PTS)
Bill Rose prioritized health and made the tough choice to step back from full-time driving this year, but that didn’t mean his team would be slowing down. Instead, Rose put Zach Hampton in the seat for a rookie World of Outlaws run.

After a slow start, Hampton put his fellow rookies on notice with a drive from 22nd to seventh at Magnolia Motor Speedway. He impressed even more a couple of months later, contending for the win at Eldora before finishing sixth. Less than two weeks later, he passed a combined 15 cars over two nights at Ohsweken for a pair of top 10s. Hampton’s top outing of the year so far is an impressive top five at August’s Ironman 55, one of the calendar’s most grueling events.

The Hoosier holds down the fifth spot in rookie standings.

Stat Line: 1 Top 5. 6 Top 10s. 16.53 Avg. Finish. 2 Heat Wins. 6 Dash Appearances.

SKYLAR GEE – LOGAN FENTON RACING No. 99 (-582 PTS)
Leduc, AB, Canada’s Skylar Gee followed his father’s footsteps in 2025 by making the leap to the World of Outlaws.

Like much of his competition, Florida dealt some struggles for Gee. But he quickly rebounded upon leaving the “Sunshine State” with a Talladega top 10.

Gee’s best stretch of the season so far came during the latter part of May. It began with a seventh at Lincoln Speedway. Shortly after that, the scene shifted to Ohio, and he started on the pole before finishing third at Attica Raceway Park. Two nights later, he collected a top five at Atomic.

The home stretch will be pivotal for Gee and the Logan Fenton Racing crew as they’re only 30 points back of Hampton for another spot in points.

Stat Line: 2 Top 5s. 9 Top 10s. 15.26 Avg. Finish. 3 Heat Wins. 6 Dash Appearances.

CONNER MORRELL – BILL ROSE RACING NO. 28M (-944 PTS)
After DIRTcar Nationals wrapped up, Conner Morrell put the pieces in place for a deal to wheel a second Bill Rose Racing entry with the World of Outlaws in 2025.

The Bradenton, FL native first cracked the top 10 at Kennedale in March.

No rookie has been closer to World of Outlaws Victory Lane this year than Morrell. He wheeled his way from sixth to the top spot, led a dozen laps, and finished runner-up on the second and final night at Ohsweken in May. The next night, Morrell impressed again with a top five at Attica.

Stat Line: 2 Top 5s. 3 Top 10s. 19.33 Avg. Finish. 4 Heat Wins. 4 Dash Appearances.

The chase for the 2025 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year continues this weekend at Putnamville, IN’s Lincoln Park Speedway (Oct. 17), La Salle, IL’s LaSalle Speedway (Oct. 18), and Sun Prairie, WI’s Angell Park Speedway (Oct. 19). For tickets, CLICK HERE.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Three-State Tripleheader Takes World of Outlaws to Lincoln Park, LaSalle, Angell Park

The tour makes its final stops of the year in Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin

Tyler Carr

PUTNAMVILLE, IN (October 14, 2025) - Three states. Three racetracks. Three nights. The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series is set for a busy weekend.

The tripleheader kicks off with The Greatest Show on Dirt’s highly anticipated return to Putnamville, IN’s Honest Abe Roofing Lincoln Park Speedway on Friday, Oct. 17. The “Hoosier State” bullring has welcomed the World of Outlaws twice before, most recently in 2016.

The tour then travels from Lincoln Park to the “Land of Lincoln” as the recently reopened LaSalle Speedway (La Salle, IL) is the destination on Saturday, Oct. 18. The last World of Outlaws visit to LaSalle was a dozen years ago.

The weekend wraps up with a Sunday, Oct. 19, stop at Sun Prairie, WI’s Angell Park Speedway. The country’s best Sprint Car drivers have made only one previous visit to the historic “Badger State” track in 2016.

It’s time to load up the camper and hit the highway for a three-state road trip with the World of Outlaws as the 2025 season nears its end.

Let’s look at the weekend’s top storylines:

YOU’RE TELLING ME THERE’S A CHANCE: He still has plenty of work to do with only eight races to go this year, but the door opened slightly more on Michael “Buddy” Kofoid’s championship chances over the weekend.

The Penngrove, CA native continued his recent stretch of consistency, posting finishes of fourth at New Egypt Speedway and third at Lincoln Speedway. Kofoid and the Roth Motorsports team have finished sixth or better in the last 16 races and been on the podium 10 times in that stretch. That combined with a David Gravel DNF on Saturday allowed Kofoid to cut Gravel’s advantage from 146 markers to 106. That’s the closest the gap has been between the top two since early May.

Looking ahead to this weekend, Kofoid has several laps around Lincoln Park and has won there in both a Sprint Car and Midget. Saturday will mark his LaSalle debut. He’s been to Angell Park once before, finishing ninth with the United States Auto Club (USAC) National Midgets in 2021.

NON-WING NOTES: A pair of World of Outlaws rookies hope their extensive wingless experience comes in handy Friday at Lincoln Park. Both Chris Windom and Hunter Schuerenberg have plenty of laps around the bullring.

Windom topped a local Putnamville Sprint Car race in 2017. The Canton, IL native also won a USAC National Midget event there in 2020. On the wing side, Windom made a stop at Lincoln Park with the Interstate Racing Association (IRA) last year and landed on the podium. He’ll return Friday aboard the Sides Motorsports/NOS Energy Drink No. 7S.

Schuerenberg won without wings at Lincoln Park 11 years ago with the Midwest Sprint Car Series (MSCS). “Hunter-Percent” competed in the most recent World of Outlaws visit in 2016. The Sikeston, MO driver will see what he can do Friday with the Vermeer Motorsports team.

NEW WINNER: Illinois fans are promised a new LaSalle World of Outlaws winner Saturday as none of the nine former victors plan to be on the entry list. Only a handful of the current roster of World of Outlaws competitors even have laps at LaSalle.

Bill Balog is the most experienced at the Illinois oval. He’s won there five times in nine tries with IRA. Saturday gives him a shot to add one with the World of Outlaws. He was fifth with The Greatest Show on Dirt at LaSalle in 2013.

Donny Schatz has made seven LaSalle appearances. He struggled at first with no result better than 15th in his first four but turned things around with finishes of fourth, fourth, and second in the three since.

Kerry Madsen was runner-up with the World of Outlaws Gumout Series back in 2001. He’s been there three times since with the World of Outlaws and will add another trip with Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing this weekend.

David Gravel came home eighth, driving for Bill Rose at LaSalle in 2013. He’s looking to rebound this weekend after troubles at Lincoln dealt him his worst finish of 2025.

Carson Macedo grabbed a LaSalle top five in 2017 with IRA aboard Joe Gaerte’s No. 3G.

ONE LAST HOME GAME: Sunday’s Angell Park tilt represents an uncharacteristically late-season visit to Wisconsin for the World of Outlaws, but Bill Balog isn’t complaining.

It’s a chance for him to race in front of his avid northern fans one last time this season. Balog moved from Alaska to the “Badger State” and built a massive following as he assembled a résumé that includes 10 IRA titles. He’s won three times this year with the World of Outlaws, but he wants one at home.

The “North Pole Nightmare” is no stranger to Angell Park’s Victory Lane. He’s claimed nine IRA Features there, including one co-sanctioned by the All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC). The versatile wheelman also owns six Badger Midget wins at the Sun Prairie track.

SHINING IN SUN PRAIRIE: Balog isn’t the only driver heading to Angell Park on Sunday who’s a former winner.

The lone World of Outlaws visit to Angell Park in 2016 resulted in a Donny Schatz victory. Time is running out for Schatz to tie one of the sport’s most impressive records. He’s won at least one World of Outlaws race in 27 consecutive campaigns. That dates to his sophomore season in 1998. The 10-time Series champion sits winless with only eight opportunities left to make it 28 in a row and equal Steve Kinser’s mark (1978-2005).

Sheldon Haudenschild is one for one at Angell Park. He climbed aboard Chris Hartnell’s No. 48H and beat the IRA in 2014. Eleven years later, he’ll return with the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing/NOS Energy Drink team.

Series rookie Hunter Schuerenberg has four nights of Angell Park experience under his belt, which includes a 2022 ASCoC win. The Vermeer Motorsports pilot is still in search of his first career World of Outlaws checkered flag.

It wasn’t in a Sprint Car, but Carson Macedo scored at Angell Park in 2016. He drove a Keith Kunz Motorsports Midget to victory with POWRi. He’ll aim to add one aboard the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 Sprint Car Sunday.

Knoxville, Huset’s Set to Host Memorial Day Weekend Doubleheader|

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will visit Knoxville Raceway on May 23 and Huset’s Speedway on May 24

Cameron Saich

CONCORD, NC (Oct. 13, 2025) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will celebrate Memorial Day Weekend at Knoxville Raceway and Huset’s Speedway in 2026.

For the first time in Series history, the two premier dirt tracks will host a doubleheader event during the greatest weekend in motorsports, with an added visit to Knoxville on Saturday, May 23, and Huset’s on Sunday, May 24.

Along with creating a new destination weekend for race fans, both events will give race teams something else to celebrate with back-to-back $20,000 paydays on the line.

“This was an exciting opportunity to give fans and teams a new special event during Memorial Day Weekend, while also expanding upon our relationships with the World of Outlaws and Huset’s Speedway,” said John McCoy, Knoxville Raceway Race Director. “We’ve had great success collaborating with Tod Quiring, Doug Johnson, and the Huset’s Speedway team in the past and look forward to supporting this weekend.”

“As we continue to build marquee events at Huset’s Speedway, the doubleheader with Knoxville Raceway was a great opportunity to create a new Memorial Day Weekend tradition for both sides of the South Dakota/Iowa border,” added Doug Johnson, Huset’s Speedway general manager. “There’s always an added level of excitement when the World of Outlaws come to town, and we’re looking forward to giving fans another memorable weekend with The Greatest Show on Dirt.”

The Memorial Day Weekend events build upon the World of Outlaws’ schedule of marquee races at Knoxville and Huset’s, such as the already announced Huset’s Hustle, June 17-18, the Huset’s High Bank Nationals, June 19-20, and the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s, Aug. 12-15.

The World of Outlaws’ connection to both tracks dates back to the early history of the Series, as the Outlaws first visited Knoxville Raceway during its inaugural season in 1978 and visited Huset’s Speedway for the first time in 1983. The Series has raced at Knoxville in May 11 times and at Huset’s in May three times. While this event will be the first time the two tracks have hosted Memorial Day Weekend together, the World of Outlaws did visit Knoxville during Memorial Day Weekend in 1981 with Doug Wolfgang winning on Friday and Sammy Swindell winning on Saturday.

Keep an eye on the World of Outlaws, Knoxville Raceway, and Huset’s Speedway social channels for more ticket and event information.

RIGHTHAND MAN: How Dennis Gregg’s Fandom Led to World of Outlaws with Bill Balog

The Wisconsin native went from hanging out at Balog’s pit to his main crew member on the road

Tyler Carr

NEW EGYPT, NJ (October 9, 2025) - Bill Balog grew worried when his part-time crew member Dennis Gregg called to ask how much he could pay him heading into 2022.

Balog didn’t answer with a weekly rate or salary. His reply didn’t have a number at all. Instead, he offered a suggestion. He knew where Gregg’s mind had wandered.

“I said, ‘Do not quit your job right now,’” Balog recalled. “And he said, ‘I already did.’”

That was Gregg’s latest but largest sign of dedication to Balog’s team at the time. Gregg calls Wisconsin home and grew an interest in the sport at a young age when a local racer, Robbie Punzel, drove for his uncle during the late 1990s. He hung around the car and helped where he could until the team shuttered.

Gregg’s interest in the sport dimmed for a few years before reigniting around 2010 and luring him to several Interstate Racing Association (IRA) events near home. If you were going to IRA races in the 2010s, you watched Alaskan transplant Bill Balog win a lot of races and championships. Gregg’s fandom of the “North Pole Nightmare” grew. Eventually, he started chatting with Balog, and one thing led to another.

“It was just something about Bill’s driving style. He was a guy I kind of watched,” Gregg said. “Little by little I got the nerve up and started going down and hanging out with the guys he was working with. Little by little, I eased my way in until he decided to do the All Star (Circuit of Champions) tour. I’d been hanging around so much he asked if I wanted to go on the road with him, and I agreed to do it.”

Over the years, Gregg became Balog’s righthand man. Balog has plenty on his plate, being the owner, driver, and crew chief of the car, but Gregg’s work ethic lightens the load. He leaves engine maintenance to Balog but handles most of the remaining upkeep. Getting a CDL also allowed Gregg to transport the car from track to track.

“The car always beats me to the racetrack,” Balog said. “He’s afraid something is going to break down, so he leaves early and gets it there for me. He would carry it there if he had to. I’m not kidding. He would get it there somehow. That’s a really good thing to have. He would literally do anything.”

After the All Star experience got their feet wet with a traveling series, Balog came to Gregg with the idea of potentially hitting the road with The Greatest Show on Dirt in 2024. With the approval of a supportive wife, Gregg was on board.

“My first thought was, ‘I hope we can actually pull it off,’” Gregg said. “I knew it was always a dream of his, and I thought that would be kind of cool for me to come from literally knowing very little about these things to actually trying to run with the top dogs.”

They’ve done more than run with the top dogs. They’ve become one of them. Balog put together a consistent rookie year in 2024, but they’ve upped it to another level in 2025. After no wins last year, it took them only seven races of the sophomore season to find Victory Lane at Alabama’s Talladega Short Track.

“The win at Talladega for me was my first Outlaw win,” Gregg said. “It’s kind of funny. I was sitting in the stands over there. I still remember that I really didn’t even get nervous. I don’t know what it was. I don’t know if I was in shock or whatever. But after he had finally won, I’m like, ‘Oh my god. I’m on an Outlaw winning team. We beat the best of the best.’ So, after the races, when we were all celebrating, I took the right rear tire and cut it off and saved that. I got him to sign it. My wife made a little plaque.”

Balog wasn’t done there. He’s shown consistent speed all year, which included a near dream week at Huset’s Speedway. The No. 17B racked up nearly $100,000 over four nights at the Huset’s High Bank Nationals, highlighted by their second victory of the campaign. A third win came last month at California’s Perris Auto Speedway. This past weekend, Balog nearly added a crown jewel to his résumé, leading laps at Williams Grove Speedway’s J&S Classics National Open before a podium result.

Expectations have evolved as the results continue to improve. They’ve proven they can hold their own against the best.

“The first year was all about gaining experience and prove to everybody we belonged out here,” Gregg said. “We knew we kind of believed we could be out here, but you get out here and it’s a little different. You realize how consistent you have to be week in and week out. This year, I don’t know what expectations were from Bill’s perspective, but I thought with the way we ran the first year, I believed we should be finishing top 10 consistently. My expectations are a top 10 almost every single night because I know Bill is more than capable as a driver, and now that we’ve been to these tracks a few times, we have a better understanding of everything.”

Only 10 races remain in 2025. Along with the three wins, Balog and company have collected a solid 15 top fives and 33 top 10s. Balog hired Kevin Ingle after the Knoxville Nationals to help the crew and take a little weight off Gregg’s shoulders. They’re seventh in points, within striking distance of Donny Schatz for sixth, and Gregg has no regrets about quitting that “normal” job a few years back even if Balog thought it was a bad choice at the time.

“Now my expectations for the rest of the year are pretty much just to keep running the way we’re running and see if we can catch Donny Schatz in the driver’s points,” Gregg said. That’s my goal now, but I don’t want to turn this into a points racing thing because I think that can kind of distract from what we’re doing. We just kind of do what we do every day, and hopefully things fall our way.”

Gregg, Balog, and the B2 Motorsports team continue their sophomore season with the World of Outlaws this Friday, Oct. 10, at New Jersey’s New Egypt Speedway and Saturday, Oct. 11, at Abbottstown, PA’s Lincoln Speedway. For tickets, CLICK HERE.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: World of Outlaws Return to New Jersey, Battle PA Posse One Final Time

The tour heads back to New Egypt before the last Pennsylvania invasion of 2025 at Lincoln

Trent Gower

NEW EGYPT, NJ (October 7, 2025) - Another weekend in the northeast awaits the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

The dust has settled on Pennsylvania’s premier event, Williams Grove Speedway’s J&S Classics National Open, but the country’s top Sprint Car drivers don’t have to travel far this week.

First up is The Greatest Show on Dirt’s return to the state of New Jersey for the first time in three years. The tour heads to New Egypt Speedway on Friday, Oct. 10. It’ll mark the 10th trip to the uniquely shaped track in Series history.

Then it’s back to Pennsylvania for one final faceoff with the PA Posse. The World of Outlaws rumble into the scenic Pigeon Hills where the “Fabulous” Lincoln Speedway serves as the battleground for the two sides. The Abbottstown, PA oval has hosted the World of Outlaws 55 times.

Let’s look at the weekend’s top storylines:

10 TO GO: The 2025 campaign that began in Florida eight months ago is now down to a quick dash to the finish line. Only 10 races remain in the World of Outlaws’ 48th season of bringing the nation’s top Sprint Car talent together.

David Gravel leads the way atop the standings. The Watertown, CT native is having a remarkable year aboard the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 with 15 wins, 35 podiums, and only two finishes outside the top 10 through 61 races. Michael “Buddy” Kofoid has been a sophomore success as he taken the Roth Motorsports No. 83 on 11 trips to Victory Lane and is 146 markers behind Gravel in points. Completing the points podium is Carson Macedo and Jason Johnson Racing.

Another major storyline entering this year was a loaded Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year class, and it’s delivered. Garet Williamson and Chris Windom have battled all year, and Williamson holds a 78-point advantage. Behind Windom, Cole Macedo is still within striking distance 88 markers back.

JERSEY GIANTS: A handful of current World of Outlaws competitors have enjoyed journeys to New Jersey in the past.

Donny Schatz is a two-time New Egypt winner, claiming visits in 2001 and 2003. The 10-time Series champion is still in search of his first trip to Victory Lane this year, and that pursuit continues Friday aboard the Sides Motorsports No. 15.

David Gravel claimed the most recent New Egypt tilt in 2017. That was with CJB Motorsports, and now the current point leader will go for one with Big Game Motorsports as he nears a second straight Series title.

Logan Schuchart and Sheldon Haudenschild have both won in the “Garden State,” though both came at different tracks than what’s ahead Friday. Schuchart was victorious at Bridgeport Motorsports Park in 2021, and then Haudenschild came out on top at the same facility a year later.

RACING FOR SCRUFFY: Hearts will be heavy on Saturday at Lincoln. Bobby Allen, a longtime resident of nearby Hanover, PA, one of the most admired racers to ever emerge from Pennsylvania, and owner of Shark Racing, passed away on Sunday.

Lincoln Speedway played a large role in Allen’s legacy. He went from sleeping in the track’s ticket booth at times as he pursued his racing dreams to winning 75 races and three track championships at the Abbottstown, PA oval.

Shark Racing would love nothing more than to honor their leader with a victory on Saturday. Allen’s grandson, Logan Schuchart, will lead the charge in that effort. He’s yet to win a World of Outlaws race at Lincoln, peaking at second in 2020, but he does own a pair of local scores at his home track. The Shark team will also have Ashton Torgerson in action piloting the No. 1A that Allen made famous. He was a runner-up at Lincoln during his most recent visit to the track in August.

DECIDING FINAL BATTLE: Lincoln represents the final showdown between the World of Outlaws and Pennsylvania Posse in 2025, and the stakes are high.

The Posse have defended the porch three times this year thanks to Anthony Macri victories at Williams Grove Speedway and BAPS Motor Speedway and Chase Dietz’s first win with the Series this past weekend. The travelers have taken two trophies with Michael “Buddy” Kofoid winning at Lincoln in May and Sheldon Haudenschild taking the J&S Classics National Open at “The Grove.”

That means the scoreboard shows the Posse lead by just one entering Saturday. They’ve already secured at least a tie in 2025 against the best drivers in the country, but they want more than a tie. They’ll be looking to secure year-long bragging rights on Saturday for the first time since 2022 while the World of Outlaws aim to spoil their fun and end the year on equal ground.

POSSE PRIDE: Several stout competitors from Pennsylvania are capable of ensuring the Posse maintain the upper hand on Saturday.

Chase Dietz (York, PA) is fresh off bagging his first career World of Outlaws checkered flag on Friday at Williams Grove, and he and the Stehman Motorsports crew have been fast at Lincoln all year. They won the track’s first race of 2025, came home second with the World of Outlaws in May, and got a second win on Labor Day weekend. Dietz has only missed the top five once this year in the Pigeon Hills.

Gettysburg, PA’s Danny Dietrich was the only driver to podium on both nights of the National Open this past weekend in the Gary Kauffman Racing No. 48. He’s currently tied for fifth all-time on Lincoln’s all-time win list with 66, and a pair of those came with the World of Outlaws.

Troy Wagaman Jr. entered this year with a trio of Lincoln triumphs on his résumé, and he’s added three more to that tally in 2025 alone with the Heffner Racing team. The Hanover, PA native has been in the top 10 twice with the World of Outlaws at Lincoln.

Freddie Rahmer scored for the Posse at Lincoln in 2018 to notch his one career World of Outlaws victory to date. He’s racked up 44 total wins at the 3/8 mile.

These four are likely to be joined by Lance Dewease (Fayetteville, PA), Brock Zearfoss (Jonestown, PA), Ryan Smith (Kunkletown, PA), T.J. Stutts (Liverpool, PA), and many more.

Hafertepe Jr. Closes in on Sixth Championship with Friday Tulsa Victory

Emily Schwanke

TULSA, OK (October 17, 2025) — Sixteen months ago, Sam Hafertepe Jr. had never turned a lap around Tulsa Speedway. Now, he’s already the first three-time 360 Sprint Car winner in the history of the track.

After winning two of the three American Sprint Car Series events held at the track in 2024, the Sunnyvale, TX native picked up where he left off with the opening night win at the Double Down in T-Town, his 11th of the season with the Series.

“This place, we always perform really well here,” Hafertepe said. “It’s a good racetrack for us, we have a lot of really good notes. Me and Sean [McClelland], we share a lot of information between each other, that’s probably why we ran 1-2 tonight.”

Hafertepe led the field to green in the 25-lap main event to the inside of McClelland, the ASCS Sooner Region points leader entering the weekend. The No. 15H rolled the bottom around Turns 1 and 2 to get the lead down the backstretch and looked to set sail from there.

A trio of early yellows kept him from doing so, and also made traffic a non-factor in the first half of the race. That wouldn’t be the case in the waning moments though, as Hafertepe caught the tail of the field and struggled to find a way around. That allowed McClelland to eliminate the 1.6-second margin Hafertepe built up in clean air.

McClelland then found himself in the same dilemma as Hafertepe with the cars in front of him – reeling them in was doable, but passing them was more of a challenge. With the laps winding down, McClelland tried and failed to find enough momentum to get around Hafertepe and could only watch him take the checkered flag.

“I knew who was behind me,” Hafertepe said regarding McClelland’s late charge in traffic. “That’s one thing that I didn’t have to worry about him putting the chrome horn to me or nothing like that. That actually kind of eased me a little bit to just hit my marks and just do what you’re supposed to do. It gets really hard, and you’ve got to be so patient to hit the bottom that slow. It just makes it really difficult to be that patient.”

That patience was rewarded with an expanded lead in the title chase that now sits at 166 points with three races remaining. Hafertepe doesn’t need to be the fastest car on the track the rest of the way to lock up his sixth Series championship – nevertheless, he has his sights set on wrapping things up with a bang.

“Hasn’t been the end to the season that we wanted, so it’s good to get a win tonight, hopefully we can go down to Creek County [Speedway] and win down there too,” Hafertepe said. “We want to finish strong. That’s what champions do, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

For McClelland, his second-place effort was his best National Tour result since his most recent win across town at Creek County in 2023.

“I get sick of following that 15H,” McClelland said. “He’s good, that’s why I rely on him to help me out. He’s my best friend. He don’t know it, but he resurrected my career about six years ago, and I can’t thank him enough for it.”

The last step on the podium was occupied by Terry Easum, who notched a new season-high finish after a sophomore National Tour season filled with plenty of trials and tribulations.

“We know we’re capable, it’s just getting me comfortable in the car,” Easum said. “I’m probably the biggest hold up in this car. I just need to keep getting better, and we will. We’ll stick it out, and keep at it until we get better to be on a podium more.”

Matt Covington came home fourth for his third top five in his last four Tulsa starts, while Elijah Gile finished a career-best fifth.

Whit Gastineau Goes Back-to-Back for Weekend Sweep of Salt City Speedway

24L Racing Photography

HUTCHINSON, KS (Oct. 11, 2025) — Coming into the weekend to face the national stars of the American Sprint Car Series, Whit Gastineau knew he had the means to beat the touring regulars.

In two nights of racing, he beat them twice.

The 41-year-old from Moore, OK, scored his first career Series victory at Salt City Speedway on Friday night, then turned around on Saturday and did it again, passing Brady Baker for the lead on Lap 10 and holding on for a clean sweep of the Series’ final race weekend of the season in Kansas.

As one of Oklahoma’s top regional/local talents, Gastineau races on only a part-time basis. But this weekend, he showed exactly what he and his team have been capable of all season long with the domination of their full-time opponents.

“There’s lots of times we didn’t have the car as good as we needed, but we’ve been good all year,” Gastineau said. “No matter what car we’ve been in — the 360, the two-barrel or the 305 — we’re fast every time we go out. We show up expecting to win, expecting to be top-five, for sure.”

On Friday, it was all Gastineau, leading every lap en route to the win. Saturday brought 18-year-old Rookie of the Year contender Brady Baker to the lead from the outside pole in the opening laps while polesitter Gastineau chased him around the half-mile oval.

The two caught the tail of the field as the race neared the halfway point, and when Baker slowed his pace, Gastineau closed the gap and looked for a way to get by. Carrying great speed down the backstretch, Gastineau drove deep into Turn 3 on Lap 10 and threw a slidejob on Baker to take the top spot.

“I didn’t know if I was gonna get to him or not,” Gastineau said. “I was just doing my best and trying different lines, just something different than he was. That’s when I found that top and I could tell it wasn’t bad.

“I just knew that I had to drive it harder into 3 than him and slide up in front of him and then go from there.”

Gastineau took command out front, but Baker did not immediately go away. The young Arkansas racer found the top lane to his liking, picked up more speed and went side-by-side with Gastineau on Lap 14. But the veteran held him off, using his speed and grip in the bottom lane to drive away from the challenge, off to his second career Series win.

Baker hung on for a second-place result, which tied his best career Series finish that he earned at Batesville Motor Speedway in June.

“I got to the early lead and I thought I was checked out, and I just got too patient with the lapped cars,” Baker said. “I was trying to run my own pace, not trying to get in their air. I didn’t know how close they were behind me, and then Whit got by me.

“We almost got door-to-door and then, going down the straightaway, I got in his dirty air and he pulled back away from me.”

Matt Covington completed the podium in the third position, collecting his eighth podium finish of the season.

“Our car was pretty good, I maybe got it a little too left-rear tight and I was fighting it a little bit, but so was Baker in front of me,” Covington said. “Our cars looked pretty similar. A pretty good run for those guys; a great weekend for Whit. A pretty good weekend for ourselves.”

Series points leader Sam Hafertepe Jr. crossed the stripe in fourth, while Kansas native Zach Blurton completed the top five, earning the Hard Charger honors in his drive from ninth up to fifth place.

Whit Gastineau Goes Flag-to-Flag at Salt City for First Career National ASCS Win

24L Racing

HUTCHINSON, KS (Oct. 10, 2025) — For the first time, in a career spanning over two decades, Whit Gastineau is an American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Feature winner.

The 41-year-old from Moore, OK, has been a winner of many regional 305 and 360 Sprint Car events in the past, establishing himself as one of Oklahoma’s standout local names. But Friday at Salt City Speedway was his night to shine on the national stage, leading all 20 laps around the historic half-mile oval on the Kansas State Fairgrounds and capturing one of the biggest wins of his career.

Blake Hahn. Sam Hafertepe Jr. Matt Covington. The three drivers that finished behind Gastineau have been the top three drivers in the points championship chase for the majority of the season, combining for 15 Feature wins. But Gastineau left them behind.

“I always knew we could beat them,” Gastineau said. “For the longest time, I didn’t have the equipment to run with them. I can’t thank Jim Ellison enough. I’ve raced as long or longer than all of these guys, but for the longest time, I just didn’t have the equipment to do it.

“We all have jobs, so we come out and race when we can. We’ve got kids and sporting events and all that, so we just kinda race when we can. I always knew I could race with these guys.”

Gastineau’s winning move came on the opening lap of the main event, powering around the outside of Hahn, the polesitter, for the lead out of Turn 4.

“He got the jump on me again and I knew I had to press the issue to get around him as quick as I could,” Gastineau said. “He was on the bottom, so I wasn’t gonna pass him on the bottom, so I had to make it work. I just tried to stay even with him and then drive it harder than him going into the corner and was able to squeeze by him. Once I was by him, I knew our car was good, so I just checked out.”

The race’s lone caution flag appeared with 11 laps complete for debris on the frontstretch, which was a welcomed pause in the action in Gastineau’s mind as he caught the tail end of the field.

“I didn’t like the lapped traffic; I’m glad there was a caution,” Gastineau said. “Even after the caution, I wasn’t trying to catch the lapped cars. I was trying to pace myself and get to the checkered flag and not catch them.”

The green flag dropped on the restart and Gastineau took off once again, leaving the field behind him as he sped off to the $4,000 payday.

Hahn crossed the stripe second, bagging his 10th podium finish of the season.

“I felt like we had a better car in traffic, but the cautions just didn’t really fall out perfectly,” Hahn said. “Had a good car for tonight; hopefully, we can learn from it tonight and get a little bit better for tomorrow and get one step better.”

Hafertepe, the current points leader, crossed the finish line third to claim his 17th podium finish of the season and expanded his lead over Covington in the standings to 151 points.

“I want to thank everybody that’s been putting this deal together for us all year,” Hafertepe said. “Miles (Hill) doing what he does for our race team, and I want to thank Daryl (Turford) for coming on, and Cody (Fidler) has been sticking it out all year and learning quite a bit. We’ve got a good group of guys right now, just need a few things to fall our way and we can be knocking off some more wins.”

Covington finished fourth after starting fourth, while Austyn Gossel advanced from seventh on the starting grid to complete the top five.

iT TAKES TWO: Martin Fostering Growth of Youthful Crew Member

 Emily Schwanke

CONCORD, NC (Oct. 23, 2025) — Every form of motorsports needs plentiful youth involvement and knowledgeable, experienced teachers to ensure a positive outlook for the future.

At 43 years old, American Sprint Car Series champion Jason Martin is among the most experienced drivers on the national circuit, and this year has welcomed a new addition to his operation in 20-year-old Chase Richards.

Together, they’ve wrenched the Bybee Electric, Don Ott-powered Schnee/Eagle Chassis No. 36 to three Feature wins with the national Series in 2025 and are headed toward a top-five finish in the points championship for the fourth consecutive year.

“The motivation and the youthfulness is great,” Martin said. “We don’t get many opportunities for young kids to inject themselves into the sport the way that Chase and a lot of these crew guys on the national tour. They don’t come by very often, or they do and don’t stick around long. So, it’s good to have youth in the sport.

“I really enjoy sharing knowledge with these younger kids and trying to help them learn and understand the basics and beyond. Whenever it gets really complicated, different things about the suspension and the shocks and wings and how they work. Tire prep and different things about the tires that we learned.”

Martin hired the local Sprint Car driver from Burlington, IA, to join his Lincoln, NE-based team in May to serve as his lone full-time crew member. In only six months, Richards said he’s come a long way, and Martin echoes his progress.

“Jason has taught me a lot more than I can even process,” Richards said. “He’s definitely taught me the ins-and-outs of Sprint Car racing. I feel like he and I get along and work together really well.”

“It’s been a huge thing for Chase to come along, and he’s learned a lot,” Martin said. “He’s grown immensely since he came to help me in May as a kid that didn’t know really the direction he wanted to go, and now he’s already wanting to focus on being more in a crew chief role and making decisions on the race car and learning from mistakes.”

The two were brought together from a connection Martin had with Chase’s father, Cory, who was a local racer around Iowa. Martin recalls building shocks for Cory's cars that Chase and his brother McCain raced, and their racing relationship eventually led to the opportunity for Chase to work with Martin as he chased the national Series schedule.

“Chase was kinda like myself when I was 17-18-19 years old,” Martin said. “I wanted to just get out and learn and travel the world a little bit. He came on board and has been a huge asset to the team. He’s young, energetic and willing to learn and go the extra mile to do things. He and I get along pretty well and communicate.

“That’s the biggest thing — we spend a lot of time together, so you can’t have people that you don’t really get along with or don’t communicate well.”

Richards’ drive to race and compete started at the prime age of four years old, getting his start in motocross, which he stuck with until a major injury sidelined him during the 2020 season. After taking a year off, he decided to get back on the dirt, first debuting in an Outlaw Kart and later upgrading to a Sprint Car, which he’s raced around Iowa/Illinois for the past four years.

After so much time experiencing the thrill of competition for himself, what sparked Richards’ interest in a crew member position?

“To learn,” he said. “Learn as much as I can about Sprint Car racing so that maybe, one day, if was to go out on my own and do it, I would have the knowledge to do it the right way and be more successful.”

Looking back, Richards said he’s learned several things from Martin’s vault of knowledge and experience in his first season on the road.

“I think the most important thing I’ve learned is diversity,” Richards said. “Night-to-night, how different things can be, and how different not just racers, but in life in general, how things can change from a really low point to a really high point.”

Martin said he benefits plenty from Richards’ presence — not only from his support role, but from his perspective as a fellow Sprint Car driver as well.

“It’s obviously a bonus whenever you can talk about the way the car enters the corner or how the car exits the corner,” Martin said. “He’s been in the seat and he feels that; he understands. He may not have ever realized it, just because he’s so inexperienced as a driver as well, but now he’s starting to see what he felt from the other side of the fence.”

“Watching Jason, I can kinda tell from a driver’s standpoint, ‘He did this and this is why,’ and I can base that off of being in the seat,” Richards said. “He did this because the car did this, and I feel like a lot of other crew guys can’t really distinguish that because they haven’t been in the seat.”

Ask him and he’ll not be shy about it — Richards has a newfound niche wrenching on Sprint Cars. He’s not yet ready to give up on his own career in the seat, but he and Martin both have a positive outlook for their future with the American Sprint Car Series.

“Chase has been a great addition to the team, and hopefully, we can continue to race two or three more years,” Martin said. “That would be a great thing if we could continue to build on this experience together.”

The American Sprint Car Series brings the 2025 season to a close Friday–Saturday, Nov. 14–15, at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, OK, in the annual running of Fuzzy’s Fall Fling.

CONCORD, NC (October 17, 2025) - When the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota visits Millbridge Speedway in November to close out the season, three North Carolina natives will be set to defend their home turf.

Mooresville, NC’s Trevor Cline and Ethan Mitchell, along with Huntersville, NC’s Hayden Wise, will each chase victory in the Justin Arion Hauling Xtreme Outlaw World Championship presented by Glenn Styres Racing with an Xtreme season of experience under each of their belts.

Wise, the 14-year-old Series rookie, spent the majority of her 2025 campaign focused on learning the new surroundings and understanding the Ninety-Four Racing machine that she piloted with former USAC champion Jay Drake on the wrenches.

“It’s been great so far getting comfortable with the car this year,” Wise said. “I really can’t thank Jay (Drake) enough. He’s been setting up the car really good for me, and all the support from my dad and pop each night. It’s been a big thing for that, and I’m just happy with where I’ve come from so far, and learning about the car has made it be really fun.”

Cline, who ran his rookie season with the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets in 2024, filled his racing schedule with visits to new tracks in split time between the Bellwood Auto Body No. 55 Midget and Hyper Racing Micro Sprints.

“They’ve said we ran pretty well. I don’t think it’s been as good as I want it to be,” Cline said. “Obviously, you want to win them all, but it’s never gonna happen. But, it’s good. I’ve been able to travel more, so I haven’t been home as much. I’ve ran quite a bit of races, but I’ve been trying a bunch of things when we do travel out. It’s been consistent finishes, so it’s been a pretty good year."

Mitchell has evolved into a seasoned Midget veteran who knows the ups and downs that a year of national competition can bring. Through 10 Series starts this year, Mitchell owns a top five at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, along with three additional top 10s. The 23-year-old also won in a Micro Sprint with Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports (KKM) at Millbridge in August.

“You know, 2025 hasn’t been too spectacular,” Mitchell said. “It’s one of them tougher seasons that you go through as a race car driver, but we’re going to end it on a good note. I’m glad we’ve been able to visit a lot of tracks, but it’s not been easy for sure. There’s been nights where things start well, then it’s almost a wrong place, wrong time type of thing.

“But, it’s still been good to get a lot of laps, and going to Millbridge next is always a strong suit for me, seeing that’s where I started my career with Outlaw Karts, Micros, and Midgets here and there. We got the win in a Micro for KKM, and that was a lot of fun. Overall, it’s tough, but we keep trucking. We ain’t gonna give up, and we're going to keep fighting to see if we can make some headway and throw our hat in the ring for a win.”

If Cline is not racing elsewhere during the weekdays, he can be found at Millbridge racing between Winged and Non-Winged Micro Sprints. In that time, the 18-year-old has watched the 1/7-mile dirt track evolve into a hotbed for young racers to develop and compete against the best in their division each week.

“The more and more you travel, when you get home, it gets easier and easier,” Cline said. “It’s definitely helped. Even in years past, the more we’ve traveled, it just feels like another show, and it seems easier to me. Down (at Millbridge), the competition’s getting really hard. There used to be five or six good cars; now, there’s 15-20 good cars that it turns into the (Tulsa) Shootout a little bit.

“You got to have a lot of luck. Different racetracks have different dirt, especially out in the Midwest. You’re able to go home and almost not take a bunch of the information, but your driving style becomes easier and the way you drive. Going to Millbridge, since it’s not as sandy as the others, it’s pretty tough whenever a lot of guys show up.”

Though Wise has raced at Millbridge the least amount of times since stepping up from the Quarter Midget ranks, she’s spent time in a range of open-wheel dirt cars, including Midgets, 410 Sprint Cars, and Micro Sprints. After scoring her first Series podium at Clyde Martin, she went back the next week and became the first female to win a 600 Micro Feature at the track.

“Running the Sprint Car, and Midget, and Micros, I’m happy that I’m learning the different chassis and how to drive them,” Wise said. “Overall, I feel like it helps me in so many different ways because I know how to be and what to do in certain situations.

“I do a lot of studying before I come to some of these tracks. Just so that I know what to expect, which helps, and then going over my notes with my family and Jay helps a lot when we’re there. Like, running the Midget at Clyde (Martin Memorial Speedway) definitely helped me go ahead in the Micro and win because I knew what the track was going to be like. Those PA tracks have been really good to me.”

Mitchell knows “The Bridge” as well as the back of his hand with the amount of laps he’s logged. When the Midgets race a familiar track in a much cooler setting than in previous years, “Lil Bundy” said that World Championship competitors will be more reliant on pace than on being technical around the track.

“I think, being in November versus May, it’s gonna be quite a different track than what we’re used to seeing,” Mitchell said. “May, obviously, is a lot hotter than November, and I’ve ran enough to where I know how it changes through the year. It seems like towards the end of the year, it brings moisture throughout the surface, holds grip longer through the night, and produces faster-paced racing. Track records are always set or broken at the end of the year, no matter what class you’re in.

“It just seems that the track carries more speed at the end of the year than it does early on. So, I think knowing those little things about Millbridge, I think there’s going to be some advantages in knowing that type of stuff, plus all the laps I have are quite hefty, so it all should help me out as well.”

Cline began October with an added milestone to his career when he bested Series points leader Jacob Denney in the final laps at Jacksonville Speedway to earn an emotional first career Xtreme Outlaw Feature win. The win gave Cline added confidence entering the Xtreme World Championship as he seeks his first career Midget win around his home track.

“My Midget program, we’re getting there,” Cline said. “We’re not at the level we want to be yet, but we are a lot better from where we started. Millbridge is special, everybody I know is from there, and I’ve got more laps than anyone there almost, so I’m kind of the hometown kid. I’ve only ran a Midget there twice, and a million in the Micro, so hopefully we can take what we learned from (Jacksonville) and run well there.”

Wise said her confidence level has risen throughout the course of her rookie year, and there is no better place for her to win her first national Midget triumph amongst the hometown crowd.

“I mean, it’d be crazy, I’d be so excited,” Wise said. “I’ve spent time thinking about how much confidence I’ve gained over the last couple of races with Xtreme, how I’ve been getting comfortable in the car. I’ve had more confidence going into these races because I’ve been racing with the best guys, getting comfortable with racing against them, learning how they race, and I really think it’d be cool if that could come at Millbridge.”

Mitchell knows what it is like to be close to victory at home, as his only podium score with the Series came in the inaugural Series event’s finale in 2022.

Though he’s only finished in the top-10 once in every Xtreme Outlaw Feature at the track since then, his 8.5 average Feature start through the last three years suggests the No. 19M to be near the head of the field to start the November finale.

“As greedy as we are, we want to win now,” Mitchell said. “Just getting that feeling to win in general would be super good for me, and really boost my confidence level to where it would change the game for me. They always say, ‘The first one is the hardest to get. Then, after that, it becomes a lot easier.’ I think that would hold true to me for sure because we’ve been close.”

You can see Cline, Wise, and Mitchell battle at Millbridge Speedway to cap off the 2025 Xtreme Outlaw Midget season in the Justin Arion Hauling Xtreme Outlaw World Championship presented by Glenn Styres Racing on Monday-Tuesday, Nov. 3-4. Tickets will be available at the gate. Hot Laps are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. both nights.

McClelland Celebrating 30 Years of Racing in 2025: ‘Desire to Win is 100 Percent Still There’

Five-time Sooner Region champion takes on national ASCS stars this weekend in Tulsa

Team Green

TULSA, OK (Oct. 16, 2025) — This weekend, the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) goes head-to-head with its most historic and longest-running regional division, the ASCS Sooner Region. Leading the Oklahoma-based pack is its all-time winningest driver and champion, Sean McClelland.

McClelland, 50, of Tulsa, OK, is a five-time Sooner Region champion, celebrating 30 years in the driver’s seat in 2025. From his humble beginning, jumping straight into a two-barrel 360 Sprint Car in 1996, McClelland has not been shy about recognizing the help he’s had on the road to becoming one of Oklahoma’s most respected 360 racers.

Down the side of his black/orange No. 1 reads ‘All American Forklift’ — the name of the business owned by his car owner, Robert McLain. He and McClelland have been in partnership on the track since the 2023 season, when McClelland last went to Victory Lane against the national Series at Creek County Speedway.

“I’ve got good people that support me and have supported me over my career,” McClelland said. “It’s been good. I’ve had a lot of good car owners over the years who have helped me, and it’s really important to have good financial support behind you.”

2025 commemorates 20 years since his first Sooner Region Feature win and first Sooner Region championship earned in 2005 on the strength of five wins and 18 top-10s in 20 races. The names, faces, and cars have changed plenty since then, but one thing remains constant in McClelland’s racing career — the will to compete at his potential.

“I’m a very competitive person. I don’t like to lose at anything that I do, and I think that’s what drives me,” McClelland said. “Turning 51 next week, I still want to go out and compete and be the best I can. Of course, we want to win.

“We’re not disappointed if we run second, we’re not disappointed if we run fifth. The car owner is not, but I am. I want to win every night. So, the competitive spirit, the burn, the urge and desire to win is 100 percent still there.”

McClelland and his local roots play a part in representing the best of the Sooner Region, which has operated under the American Sprint Car Series banner since its establishment in 2001. Since his debut with the region in 2002, McClelland has collected 24 Feature wins, beating the best from around the area, including several national ASCS champions.

“Back then, it really was the most competitive region that ASCS had,” McClelland said. “Any time the national guys would come and run against the Sooner Region guys, they knew they were in for a fight because it was so competitive. There’s been a lot of great race car drivers come through the Sooner Region ranks. It’s always been the toughest.

“I don’t think it’s fell off. The Sooner Region is just as tough now as it ever has been. There’s a lot of great racers around Oklahoma, Arkansas, the Missouri area, and Kansas. It’s always been competitive.”

McClelland has been competitive against the national Series in 2025, most notably garnering a third-place finish to Seth Bergman and winner Sam Hafertepe Jr. at Salina Highbanks Speedway in April. Since then, he’s been to Victory Lane in Sooner Region action at Creek County in September, and currently leads the region’s points standings, trying for a sixth championship.

He's not beaten the national stars since Creek County in 2023, but is confident another big win is right around the corner.

“We’re putting ourselves in the right spot to have a chance to win, we’ve just kinda fell short come Feature time a couple times where we thought we had a real shot at winning,” McClelland said. “We just fell short on setup, or maybe driver error, or something like that. It’s not the equipment that we’re falling short on — it’s usually driver related, or setup related. But we’ve been competitive with the national guys everywhere we’ve showed up this year.”

McClelland and the rest of the Sooner Region regulars will need to be at their best when the national ASCS stars come to Tulsa Speedway for the inaugural Double Down in T-Town this Friday–Saturday, Oct. 17–18. The brand-new event combines the area’s best in 360 Sprint Car racing with the regulars of the Mid-West Drag Racing Series, who will race during the dirt track program at the adjacent drag strip.

For $25 per carload, fans can attend and walk between the two facilities to check out what both motorsports disciplines have to offer.

“I think it’s awesome,” McClelland said. “I think we should have a good crowd. Some dirt people may go over and check out the drag racing side of it, if they’re racing a little bit before or after us. I think that’s good for the sport of drag racing, and vice versa. I think some of the drag people may come over and check us out — people that may have never went to a dirt race or something.

“I think they’re going to have a good crowd because they’re advertising it really well here in Tulsa. I think it’ll be a good event. The more people we race in front of, the more we get juiced up to go out there and put on a show.”

General admission tickets for both days of the Double Down in T-Town are free for all ages; fans will be charged by the carload at $25 per vehicle of any size upon arrival. If you can’t make it out to watch in person, stream every lap live on DIRTVision.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Tulsa Speedway Hosts Inaugural Double Down in T-Town

Emily Schwanke

TULSA, OK (Oct. 14, 2025) — The home stretch of the 34th American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) season continues this weekend in its home state of Oklahoma, featuring back-to-back nights of racing at Tulsa Speedway.

The inaugural Double Down in T-Town hits the 1/4-mile dirt oval this Friday–Saturday, Oct. 17–18, racing alongside the Mid-West Drag Racing Association at the adjacent Tulsa Raceway Park dragstrip. Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the special admission deal and enjoy the area’s newest motorsports extravaganza.

For $25 per carload on each night, fans will be able to walk freely between the dirt track and the dragstrip to take in both types of racing.

Friday features a $4,000-to-win ASCS program, which will be joined by the local Dwarf Car, USRA B-Modified, and USRA Tuner divisions. Saturday’s finale puts $6,000 on the line for the winner of the Sprint Car main event, racing adjacent to the local Factory Stock and USRA Modified classes. Both Sprint Car programs are co-sanctioned by the ASCS Sooner Region.

General admission tickets for both days are free for all ages; fans will be charged by the carload at $25 per vehicle of any size upon arrival. If you can’t make it out to watch in person, stream every lap live on DIRTVision.

Here are the drivers to watch and storylines to follow this weekend:

TOUGH IN TULSA — Sam Hafertepe Jr. was victorious in last year’s national ASCS visit to Tulsa, twice, after winning the opening night of the Dirt Down in T-Town in June and the added program as part of the rainout makeup date in November.

The five-time Series champion from Sunnyvale, TX, has only three recorded appearances at Tulsa, all of which came in last year’s event. In addition to both victories he claimed, Hafertepe finished fourth in the second main event contested following the rainout makeup on Nov. 14.

The current Series points leader maintains a 146-point lead over Matt Covington, coming into the weekend on the heels of a third and fourth-place finish in the two-day event at Salt City Speedway in Kansas last weekend.

SO CLOSE — Matt Covington has come close to breaking through at Tulsa before and has a great chance to do so this weekend.

The 35-year-old from Glenpool, OK, bagged two podiums in the three national Series starts he made there in 2024, running third to Rookie of the Year Hank Davis and eventual champion Hafertepe in June before going runner-up to Seth Bergman in the double-Feature program at the track in November.

Currently, Covington sits second in the national Series points standings, coming off a weekend of third and fourth-place finishes at Salt City.

BIG YELLOW CONTENDER — Blake Hahn has won before at Tulsa Speedway and could potentially be a contender for another win this weekend.

The two-time Series champion from Sapulpa, OK, topped the field in his debut at the track in 2021, driving from 16th on the starting grid to win the ASCS Sprint Week event. Last year, Hahn ran second to Hafertepe in a Dirt Down in T-Town makeup Feature event on Nov. 14.

Last weekend, Hahn bagged a runner-up finish on Friday and a sixth-place result on Saturday, holding his third-place spot in the points standings.

MAYOR OF HUTCHINSON — Following a sweep of the weekend in Kansas, Whit Gastineau is heading down the road from his home in Moore, OK, to Tulsa to take on the national 360 Sprint Car stars once more this weekend.

The 41-year-old regional standout scored his first two American Sprint Car Series Feature wins in style last Friday and Saturday night, leading flag-to-flag for the win on Friday before passing Brady Baker at the halfway mark and holding on to make it two-in-a-row on Saturday. His win Friday night made him the 176th different winner in Series history.

Gastineau does not have any ASCS starts at Tulsa, but made one appearance in an Oil Capital Racing Series 305 Sprint Car event in 2022.

TULSA TIME — Tulsa native Sean McClelland will also represent the Oklahoma locals this weekend against the national stars of the American Sprint Car Series.

The 50-year-old, five-time ASCS Sooner Region champion is the current regional points leader by 48 points over New Mexico racer Caleb Saiz with three top-fives in six races. So far this season, McClelland has one podium against the national Series regulars — a third-place finish at Salina Highbanks Speedway in April — and finished 14th in the main event at Eagle Raceway in September in a field of nearly 60 cars at the Nebraska oval.

McClelland has won at Tulsa before, topping an Oil Capital Racing Series event at the track last July, and has also been strong at the track in 2025, recording two podium finishes in local 305 Sprint Car action.

Landon Britt on Fourth ASCS Campaign: ‘We Have Learned The Most This Year’

Emily Schwanke

CONCORD, NC (Oct. 9, 2025) — Learning is a lifelong process. Landon Britt has made his 2025 American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) campaign all about learning as he continues to develop his racing career at the national level.

The 27-year-old from Memphis, TN, is in his fourth consecutive season following the national 360 Sprint Car circuit. In seasons past, he’s appeared numerous times in the top-five and top-10 columns, garnered his first career Series victory at Arrowhead Speedway in 2023, and posted three-straight seventh-place finishes in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 championship points standings.

But 2025 has not produced those same results. Six top-10 finishes in 22 main event starts and a best finish of sixth has slotted him 10th in the championship standings with six races left. However, those numbers don’t accurately tell the story of his season.

“Even though this year, stats-wise, it doesn’t seem like we’ve learned very much, I would say that we have learned the most this year out of any previous year,” Britt said. “From the beginning, until this point now, I would say it’s been a huge jump.”

Since the dawning of his Sprint Car career in the late 2010s, the former rugby player has traveled from events with only the knowledge and resources of himself and his father, Jeff Britt.

No hired specialist for car setup. No full-time crew members. They are the co-captains of their operation, learning more about the car with every lap and acquiring Sprint Car wisdom the hard way — by grinding it out.

“I would say, knowledge-wise, I think we have progressed,” Britt said. “Sometimes we may have learned something didn’t work, but it’s learning why it didn’t work. I feel like, this year, we’ve come across more of those questions on why it didn’t work, versus, ‘Why did that work?’”

Through four years of racing across the country, Britt has remained one of the most positive and sportsmanlike drivers in the pits. It’s not uncommon for young drivers to grow frustrated in the process of sharpening their skills behind the wheel, but Britt has kept a few things in the back of his conscience that keeps him level-headed and pushing toward becoming a nightly contender at any track in the country.

“A big part of it is love for the sport,” Britt said. “It’s also realizing that you’re running against generational drivers and a lot more knowledge.

“I’m running against people with two, three, four or five times the years of experience than me.”

For his resiliency, Britt was rewarded with a Feature win in ASCS Hurricane Area Super Sprints competition at his home track of Riverside International Speedway in July. That night, he beat some of the region’s top racers, including Cody Gardner and Dale Howard — a positive sign for his program’s base setup.

“We kinda went in there and just kept it real basic,” Britt said. “It wasn’t one of those nights where we were throwing the kitchen sink at it. We kinda rolled out, and the car just felt comfortable. We really kept the changes on the car basic.”

Coming from West Tennessee, the Britt family also takes on the challenge of traveling longer distances to some races than most other teams. Their trip to WaKeeney Speedway, El Paso County Raceway, and the two Montana ovals of Big Sky Speedway and Electric City Speedway for national ASCS events in August amounted to nearly 2,000 miles, one way, from their home in Memphis.

“Trying to manage it, for us, it can be difficult, especially on these longer hauls,” Britt said. “We do have the business, and you’re always trying to keep the guys going. Or, if an emergency comes up, trying to figure out a way that it can be handled and you’re not there to attend to it as well.”

Like several of the national Series regulars, Britt has a weekly commitment to make, which presents another hurdle for their racing efforts. The family business — Jeff’s Heating & Cooling — was founded approximately 15 years ago, which the Britts operate during the week, helping to fund the race team on the weekends.

“Most of the time, I’m looking at jobs, (Jeff) and I will sit down and quote jobs together, or run a service call, or if I need to go do an install one day,” Britt said. “Whatever makes the schedule run the smoothest that day is what I try to do.”

This Friday–Saturday, Oct. 10–11, Britt and the American Sprint Car Series field heads to Salt City Speedway in Hutchinson, KS, for a two-day showdown on the historic half-mile oval.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Salt City Doubleheader Begins ASCS Home Stretch

Tyler Carr

HUTCHINSON, KS (Oct. 7, 2025) — Six races remain in the chase for the Emmett Hahn Trophy, and the stars of the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) are ready to begin the home stretch of the season with back-to-back races this weekend at Salt City Speedway.

The near-flat, half-mile oval on the historic Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson has been hosting motorsports events as far back as the 1930s and this weekend hosts the national 360 Sprint Car tour for the second time in track history. The first came this past May, when Zach Blurton led flag-to-flag in the main event and captured his second career national Series victory.

Drivers will compete for a share of the $4,000-to-win purse on Friday before chasing a $6,000 grand prize on Saturday. Both nights of racing will be supported by the local Stock Car division.

Tickets for both days of the event are on sale now; click here to purchase. If you can’t be there, stream every lap live on DIRTVision.

Here are the drivers to watch and storylines to follow this weekend:

HUTCHINSON HERO — In front of friends, family and sponsors at Salt City, Kansas native Zach Blurton won the Series debut in May and has two chances to do it again this weekend.

Blurton, 31, of Quinter, KS, paced the field green-to-checkered in the 25-lap main event, besting Series champions Blake Hahn and Sam Hafertepe Jr. to bank his second career Series victory. The win marked his first Series victory since July 3, 2022, ending a near three-year, 151-week winless streak on the national circuit, and becoming the 102nd multi-time winner in Series history.

Historically, Blurton has performed well on the half-mile oval, collecting seven top-five finishes in nine career Feature starts between ASCS, the National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) and the track’s long-running Hutchinson Grand Nationals event in the 305 Sprint Car division.

Recently, Blurton has produced strong results, notching back-to-back top-10 finishes in the previous two national ASCS events before scoring a win and a fifth-place run with the ASCS Frontier Region two weeks ago at the Wyoming oval of Sheridan Speedway.

ALMOST THERE — After coming so close to his first career national Series victory at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park three weeks ago, Kyler Johnson is ready to try again this weekend in his home state.

Johnson, 22, of Quinter, KS, led 20 laps of the main event on the high-banked Missouri oval but lost the lead to eventual winner Matt Covington in lapped traffic late in the race. Still, he hung on for second place and his fourth top-10 finish in his last five Feature starts — the best stretch of his ASCS career.

He’ll take the momentum swing into his home state of Kansas this weekend and try again for his first national ASCS win at Salt City, where he finished fourth in May.

ROOKIE BREAKTHROUGH? — Seven of Garrett Benson’s last eight national Series Feature races have produced top-10 finishes, three of which were on the podium, marking his best stretch of the season.

The 15-year-old, leading Brodix Rookie of the Year contender from Concordia, MO, posted back-to-back third-place finishes in the last race weekend at Paducah International Raceway and I-55, showing the speed and skill necessary to contend for a Feature win on the national circuit.

His first win could potentially come this weekend at Salt City, where he bagged his first top-10 finish of the season in May when he finished sixth in a 32-car field.

CHASE FOR THE TROPHY — With six races left, Sam Hafertepe Jr, Matt Covington and Blake Hahn are currently the frontrunners contending for the Emmett Hahn Trophy, all separated by less than 200 points.

Hafertepe, the five-time Series champion and current points leader from Sunnyvale, TX, has been a dominant force throughout the season, collecting 10 Feature wins in 27 Feature starts, and currently leads the championship standings by 146 points over Covington. In May, he finished third at Salt City.

Covington, of Glenpool, OK, has six races left to try and make up the 146-point gap that lies ahead of him in pursuit of his first Series championship. This year, he’s collected three Feature wins, and will try for a fourth at Salt City, where he finished seventh in May.

Hahn, a two-time Series champion from Sapulpa, OK, sits 192 points behind Hafertepe in pursuit of his first championship since 2022, holding onto two Feature wins in 28 Feature starts. In the Series’ debut in May, he ran runner-up to Blurton.

Trevor Cline Snags First Xtreme Outlaw Victory in Honest Abe Roofing Open Wheel Showdown at Jacksonville

Joe Grabianowski

Trevor Cline is glad he visited Jacksonville Speedway.

After dealing with a 2025 season that brought multiple highs and lows, the 18-year-old almost avoided running with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota at Jacksonville Speedway in the Honest Abe Roofing Open Wheel Showdown.

The decision to join the Series for the weekend was the confidence booster he did not expect, as the Mooresville, NC native captured his first career Feature win after 30 unpredictable laps around the Illinois bullring.

“It’s everything,” Cline said. “Especially to have as much momentum as you possibly can going home. We almost didn’t come about two weeks ago, and we were like, ‘Eh, let’s go try something and figure it out. We’ve been horrible all year long, and we kind of went back to basics on what we started on from last year that we liked, and we fired off really well.”

Chaos immediately ensued on the opening start as polesitter Ethan Mitchell spun in front of the field off of Turn 2, collecting multiple cars in the mix that included Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports (KKM) teammates Gavin Miller and Alex Karpowicz.

When the field was reset, Kyle Jones took the lead over Karter Sarff and Kale Drake as the three followed each other around the cushion of the 0.25-mile track through the first 10 laps.

On Lap 12, Jones and Drake smacked the wall in Turn 4 and left the door open for Sarff to take the lead. On Lap 13, Sarff’s car overheated through the same set of corners, and he immediately dropped off the track. That handed the lead to Cline, who started in sixth after earning High Point Honors.

Joining Cline in the podium spots were Chase McDermand and Jacob Denney. When Denney took over second place on Lap 19 after racing side-by-side with McDermand's No. 40X for three laps, he slowly tracked down the No. 55 Toyota by running the middle lane while Cline stayed glued to the top.

Denney added pressure on Cline through the final quarter of the race as he cut the gap down by three-tenths of a second each lap to place his No. 67 JBL Audio Toyota in prime position to steal the win.

When the white flag of the feature flew, Denney was within 0.2 seconds of Cline and began to prepare for a final turn slide job. However, Cline caught the lapped car of Daniel Adler at the perfect moment - preventing Denney from using the momentum he built up. That moment sealed Cline’s fate as he got to celebrate as a first-time national Midget winner.

“I saw (Denney), which ended up being two to go,” Cline said. “I was looking for a (scoreboard) the whole time, and I was just hoping it was over, cause I was worn out, and I need to work out. It’s tough because he was behind me the whole race, and I knew he got through the traffic pretty well. The nice thing is there’s a big curve up there where we just go hammer off from, just like home (Millbridge Speedway) and go to the win.”

Denney finished right behind the back bumper of Cline in second place. With his finish, the Galloway, OH driver widened his distance to Miller in the championship by 358 points over Miller heading into the season finale at Millbridge.

“I kind of put myself behind,” Denney said. “I made a couple of mistakes at the start, and then I just had a lot of ground to make up there. Luckily, the seas parted, and I got a couple of good spots back. By the time I got to second, Trevor was like a straightaway ahead. He was ripping, and I gave everything I had to try and reel him in there.

“I was hoping he’d clear the lapped car before we got to the white flag, just so I could throw a bomb across. But he was right there, and I half slid it and tried to get across, but I wasn’t going to do anything dumb. He ran a great race, I’m not going to take that away from him.”

McDermand rounded out the night with his second consecutive podium finish with the Series to close out the year of Xtreme Outlaw Midget racing in his home state.

“Well first, congrats to Trevor, Troy, (Denise), and their whole family,” McDermand said. “They’re the nicest people in the pit, they help anybody. They lent me a power steering pump before the Feature ‘cause we lost one in the Heat race. So, just first class people, so I’m happy to see him get his first one.

“Our car was really good in the beginning, and then I found a little bit of a different line on the restart and took advantage of everybody hitting the holes and stuff. So, I was able to get up there in a little bit cleaner air, which I feel like helped me for a little while. But, once Jacob built up momentum back around the top and was able to get away from me, that’s when I think our car showed a little bit. We weren’t quite there in the long run.”
