SPICY SUNDAY: Carson Macedo Stays Hot with Angell Park Victory

Macedo drives by Williamson to claim the Ted Johnson Memorial and cut into Gravel’s point lead a little more

Emily Schwanke

SUN PRAIRIE, WI (June 7, 2026) -

The Summer of Money is nearing, and Carson Macedo and the Jason Johnson Racing crew are heating up.

The No. 41 team didn’t quite perform up to their high standards over the first few months of the season. Sure, they were consistent, but Macedo and company are used to visiting Victory Lane often. Over the last few weeks, they’ve done exactly that.

Heading into Sunday’s Ted Johnson Memorial Race at Sun Prairie, WI’s Angell Park Speedway, they’d won twice in the last five races – Jacksonville Speedway on May 21 and River Cities Speedway on May 29. An impressive drive Sunday made it three out of the last six with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars.

Macedo lined up on the third row and worked his way forward on a tricky surface. It took him only five laps to climb to the runner-up spot. Then the game of cat and mouse was on as he chased polesitter Garet Williamson. Macedo closed in several times as they navigated traffic but couldn’t quite seal the deal. Finally, the door opened on a Lap 29 restart.

The Lemoore, CA native timed it perfectly and threw a slide job that cleared, and Williamson couldn’t counter. That proved to be the winning move as Macedo motored away to the checkered flag.

“A huge thank you and hats off to Philip Dietz, Robby McQuinn, and Adam Zimmerman, they did a great job,” Macedo said. “We made a lot of adjustments all night long. I felt like every time I came in, I had a lot of feedback. Obviously, Phil made a lot of changes, and Adam and Robby worked their tails off doing it. Just a big thank you to them. The track changed a lot. I was super nervous at the beginning of the race before it started. I thought it was going to blow all the way off, and there wasn’t going to be much left. But there was just enough meat where I could kind of connect the grip and make a lot of speed in this Albaugh 41 car.”

Macedo’s fourth win of the year is the 62nd of his career with The Greatest Show on Dirt. Sunday might’ve been his first Sprint Car score at Angell Park, but he did also top a POWRi Midget race there in 2016. Macedo made it three different winners in three World of Outlaws races at Angell Park, joining Donny Schatz (2016) and Sheldon Haudenschild (2025). And the most important number is 70, which is the gap between he and championship leader David Gravel atop the standings. Entering the weekend, Macedo trailed by 114 markers.

Sheldon Haudenschild finished second in the KCP Racing/NOS Energy Drink No. 18. He’s now reeled off six top fives in the last seven races including a trio of podiums.

Bill Balog made his home state fans proud with a third-place run to notch his second podium visit of the season.

Logan Schuchart and Michael “Buddy” Kofoid completed the top five.

NIGHTLY NOTES

David Gravel earned the Race//Ready Hottest Lap of the Night.

Bill Balog set Simpson Quick Time in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races belonged to Bill Balog (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Spencer Bayston (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Two), and Sheldon Haudenschild (WIX Filters Heat Three).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Garet Williamson.

Williamson also topped the Toyota Dash.

Logan Julien wheeled from 17th to 10th to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Spencer Bayston was the Tub O’ Towels Seventh Place Finisher.

Ashton Torgerson finished eighth, good enough for the Five Star Bodies Rookie of the Race.

Garet Williamson set the ACME Trading Company Fast Lap.

Williamson also took home the Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race.

UP NEXT: The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars make a stop at Knoxville Raceway on June 12-13 for the final leg of the Premier Chevy Dealers Clash, marking the last visit to the 1/2 mile before the 65th running of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s (Aug. 12-15). FOR PELLA: Heavy-Hearted Haudenschild Claims Thrilling Plymouth Victory

Haudenschild steals the show after Kofoid and Gravel trade blows in a three-leader battle

Emily Schwanke

PLYMOUTH, WI (Saturday, June 6) - Sheldon Haudenschild suited up and got behind the wheel with a heavy heart Saturday night.

He and his wife Zan sadly lost their beloved dog Pella in the morning after giving her a full and fun life over the years. Haudenschild fought through a flood of emotion to come and do his job with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series at Plymouth Dirt Track. And he not only showed up; he won one for Pella.

A record crowd jammed into the Wisconsin track, and the best Sprint Car drivers in the world gave the fans a treat. Early on it was David Gravel and Michael “Buddy” Kofoid trading blows for the top spot. The two winningest drivers on tour this year went back and forth with sliders, crossovers, and lane swaps in a dramatic duel.

But disaster struck for Gravel late as he clipped a rut in Turn 4 while finishing a slide job and sent the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 hard into the wall. The impact caused severe rear-end damage and ended his night early.

The resulting caution set up a seven-lap shootout to the finish, and it was Haudenschild’s time to shine. After slipping back as far as eighth early in the race, he’d scratched and clawed his way up to second as the KCP Racing/NOS Energy Drink No. 18 came to life. The Wooster, OH native glued his car to the bottom and motored by Kofoid with five laps to go. Kofoid had no answer as Haudenschild cruised to an emotional victory.

“Man, what an up and down race that was for me,” Haudenschild said. “I went from fourth to seventh pretty quick, and I was just struggling to keep it up there at the beginning of the race. Hats off to (Kyle) Ripper and Adam (Clark) and Dauson (Heitritter). What a day, man. I lost my dog this morning right here in the driveway of the track. It’s been a tough day.

“I feel like we’ve been really close to winning these races. The 83 and 2 are just really good right now. I kind of knew when I got back to him that my car was definitely good enough, and I could move around. I think Buddy was floating the top a little bit, and I kind of tried that. Yeah, I was just able to move around. Ripper did a really good job with this car.”

Haudenschild snapped a 21-race winless drought with Saturday’s score as he picked up his second victory of the season and the 48th of his career with The Greatest Show on Dirt. He’s the fourth different winner through four visits to Plymouth for the World of Outlaws. Plymouth became the 29th different track where Haudenschild has went to Victory Lane with the Series and third in the state of Wisconsin.

Kofoid came home second for his 11th podium of the season in the Roth Motorsports No. 83.

Garet Williamson rounded out the podium in the Fischer Motorsports No. 23 to notch his best finish of the season and extend his current streak of top 10s to four.

Cole Macedo and Carson Macedo completed the top five.

NIGHTLY NOTES

Carson Macedo clocked his first Race//Ready Hottest Lap of the Night in 2026.

David Gravel grabbed his 11th Simpson Quick Time of 2026 in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races belonged to Kasey Jedrzejek (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Cole Macedo (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Two), Donny Schatz (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Garet Williamson (Golf Cart Services Heat Four).

Persistent Rainfall, Soft Grounds Postpone Nodak to August 30

The focus shifts to three races at three different tracks

MINOT, ND (May 31, 2026) - With heavy rainfall hitting Minot, ND throughout Saturday and more precipitation arriving Sunday morning, creating soft grounds at Nodak Speedway and conditions unsuitable for racing, World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and SLS Promotions have agreed to postpone the Gerdau Metals Recycling Magic City Showdown to Sunday, Aug. 30.

The postponement sets up a North Dakota tripleheader weekend with a Friday, Aug. 28, stop at Grand Forks, ND’s River Cities Speedway and a Saturday, Aug. 29, visit to West Fargo, ND’s Fix It Forward Speedway leading into Nodak’s new spot on the calendar.

All tickets purchased for Sunday’s race will be honored on the new date.

The World of Outlaws now shifts its focus to the three races in three nights at three different tracks – Hartford, MI’s Hartford Speedway on June 5, Plymouth, WI’s Plymouth Dirt Track on June 6, and Sun Prairie, WI’s Angell Park Speedway on June 7. For tickets, CLICK HERE.

David Gravel leads the championship standings chasing his third straight title with Carson Macedo, Buddy Kofoid, Sheldon Haudenschild, and Donny Schatz completing the top five.

ROW FIVE RIPPER: Macedo Motors from Ninth for Wild River Cities Win

tyler carr

The Jason Johnson Racing crew collects their third win of the season in the latest River Cities thriller

GRAND FORKS, ND (May 29, 2026) - River Cities Speedway simply does not miss.

It’s tough to meet the hype when longtime World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series announcer Johnny Gibson calls the Grand Forks, ND bullring his favorite track of the more than 400 he’s visited. But River Cities continues to step up to the plate and knock it out of the park.

The Greatest Show on Dirt rolled into town Friday for the 1st Leg of the Northern Tour Don Mack Classic. A huge crowd packed the grandstands, and the fans the fans were not disappointed.

River Cities served up a wild 40-lapper with three different leaders and a late duel between two of the best in the world to decide it. Series rookie Kasey Jedrzejek led the way from the pole when the green flag dropped. He paced the opening 14 circuits before David Gravel took command on a Lap 15 restart. Cole Macedo surged into second and appeared poised to contend for his first career World of Outlaws win before tripping over the cushion and losing several spots. That gifted his brother Carson Macedo the runner-up spot and set up a wild closing segment.

Macedo closed his Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 right up on the tail tank of the Big Game Motorsports No. 2. A huge run allowed him to dive under Gravel for the lead down the front straightaway with four laps to go. Gravel answered with a slide job in Turns 3 and 4 the next time around but Macedo crossed him over. That proved to be the winning move as Macedo motored away to the checkered flag.

“Man, honestly that was just a Philip Dietz-race car right there,” Macedo said. “Every once in a while, you get one of those that’s just absolutely unbelievable. He killed it here tonight. I felt a little off in time trials then felt really good in the Heat Race. I felt like we made a lot of gains and were just a little stagnant because the track was a little faster. I felt like I was really good the whole Feature. The minute we fired off I was able to pick a few cars off. Then I just got kind of bungled up there in traffic to where I couldn’t make a move. I was trying to get by my brother and I think Balog for a long time. I couldn’t quite get clear of them. Once I did, I was able to move around and start plugging away nice laps. Man, that was awesome. My heart rate was through the roof.”

The career win total for Macedo climbs to 61 after Friday’s triumph. Three of those have come at River Cities, which ties him with Craig Dollansky for the second most at the quarter mile. He and the Jason Johnson Racing team are heating up with their second score in the last four races after just one in the first 21 nights of action this season. Macedo also regained sole possession of the second position in points.

David Gravel finished second to notch his Series-best 14th podium of 2026. His point lead is at 114 markers over Macedo.

Kasey Jedrzejek brought the Bill Rose Racing No. 6 home third for his first career World of Outlaws podium, and it happened to come at the track where Rose’s best Series finish is thanks to his third place run at River Cities back in 2011.

Chris Windom and Sheldon Haudenschild completed the top five.

NIGHTLY NOTES

Sheldon Haudenschild laid down his third Race//Ready Hottest Lap of the Night in the last four races.

David Gravel set his 10th Simpson Quick Time of the season in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races belonged to Andy Pake (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Kasey Jedrzejek (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Two), Bill Balog (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Sheldon Haudenschild (Golf Cart Services Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Kasey Jedrzejek.

Jedrzejek also topped the Toyota Dash.

Spencer Bayston won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

Chris Windom motored from 13th to fourth in the Sides Motorsports No. 7S to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Cole Macedo was the Tub O’ Towels Seventh Place Finisher.

Kasey Jedrzejek was the Five Star Bodies Rookie of the Race.

Jedrzejek also set the ACME Trading Company Fast Lap.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Spencer Bayston.

Schatz’s Knoxville résumé is among the greatest to ever turn a lap on the Marion County Fairgrounds. Among his 30 victories are 11 Knoxville Nationals titles, which trails only Steve Kinser’s 12 for the most all-time. Schatz’s three trips to Knoxville this year in the CJB Motorsports No. 15 have resulted in finishes of ninth, 10th, and second. The 10-time champion is looking to rebound this weekend after a DNF at Angell Park Speedway.

Gravel’s Knoxville speed has surged considerably since teaming with Big Game Motorsports. The pairing has won seven times at the Iowa oval together, including one earlier this year, bringing Gravel’s career total there to 15. The two-time and defending titlist hasn’t finished worse than fourth in his last seven Knoxville Features.

CLOSING IN

They’ve still got some work to do, but the Wisconsin weekend allowed a few competitors to make up significant ground on Gravel in the championship battle as he suffered his first DNF since the season opener.

Carson Macedo is the hottest driver on tour with three wins in the last six races aboard the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41. His drive from 16th to fifth at Plymouth and his Angell Park victory shrank Gravel’s advantage from 114 markers to 70. The Lemoore, CA native has five career wins at “The Sprint Car Capital of the World.”

Third-running Michael “Buddy” Kofoid took a sizeable chunk out, shrinking his gap from 126 to 86 points. The Roth Motorsports No. 83 is the winningest car on tour in 2026 with six trips to Victory Lane, but Kofoid is still in search of his first-ever Knoxville checkered flag.

Macedo may be stealing the headlines for racking up wins in recent weeks, but Sheldon Haudenschild and the KCP Racing crew have been the most consistent combination during the stretch. They’ve finished no worse than seventh in the last seven races and have bagged eight top fives over the last 10. Haudenschild is still fourth in points but chopped 50 markers off his distance to Gravel, narrowing it from 194 to 144. The Wooster, OH native topped a local Knoxville race in 2021.

DEFENDING THE FAIRGROUNDS

Knoxville boasts one of the strongest weekly programs in the country, and several of its regular competitors plan to be in action with hopes of defending the Marion County Fairgrounds.

Ryan Timms may be from Oklahoma City, OK and Liebig Motorsports may be based in Rapid City, SD, but the pairing has become synonymous with Knoxville. Timms has taken the No. 10 to Victory Lane in half of his last 10 races at Knoxville, including a current streak of three in a row. He may have the best shot at a win this weekend among the track’s weekly competitors.

He’s yet to make a trip to Victory Lane this season, but 69-time Knoxville winner Brian Brown can never be overlooked. A trio of those came against the World of Outlaws (2019, 2022, and 2023). The Higginsville, MO driver was fifth at the track’s regular show over the weekend.

J.J. Hickle is originally from Washington but shifted his racing focus to the Midwest in recent years with an emphasis on Knoxville. He’s turned heads aboard Matt Moro’s No. 2M this year with five top-five finishes at the 1/2 mile already, including a pair with the World of Outlaws. Hickle drove from 12th to second this past Saturday at Knoxville.

This trio will be a few of the many weekly Knoxville participants battling the best.

FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA

The Premier Chevy Dealers Clash is attracting talent from all over the country to face off with the World of Outlaws and Knoxville regulars.

A pair of famed Pennsylvania cars are making their way off the porch with Knoxville in the GPS. Macri Motorsports is heading west with Kasey Kahne. The two sides partnered in May and gelled quickly as Kahne got his first career World of Outlaws win at Williams Grove Speedway after nearly three decades of trying. They decided to tack on some more races as Anthony Macri continues to heal. Kreitz Racing will also be in attendance with Daryn Pittman behind the wheel. The 2013 World of Outlaws champion put the blue No. 69K on the front row of the Knoxville Nationals two years ago. Pittman owns three career Feature wins at the 1/2 mile.

Aaron Retuzel, the nation’s winningest Sprint Car driver this year with 10 triumphs, will be in action this weekend. One of those came at Knoxville with the World of Outlaws during May’s Stars and Stripes Salute, the Clute, TX native’s 28th overall victory at the 1/2 mile.

St. Helena, CA’s Rico Abreu topped five Knoxville races last year, including one against The Greatest Show on Dirt in April. He brought the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 24 home third last month at Knoxville and will be back for more at the Premier Chevy Dealers Clash.

Additional drivers expected include Giovanni Scelzi (Fresno, CA), Parker Price-Miller (Kokomo, IN), Tanner Holmes (Jacksonville, OR), Tyler Courtney (Indianapolis, IN), and many more.

HUSET’S AHEAD

While Knoxville can’t be overlooked, a massive week of racing awaits the World of Outlaws once the weekend ahead wraps up. Knoxville serves as the last chance to get the car dialed in ahead of the BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals (June 17-20).

Huset’s Speedway continues to elevate the sport by offering up life-changing money. Next week packs two events into one with the Hefty Seed Huset’s Hustle (June 17-18), dishing out $150,000 to the winner. Then, the slate is wiped clean for High Bank Nationals (June 19-20) as teams will contend for the largest winner’s share in Series history, $300,000. Huset’s also announced a bounty for an extra $100,000 if any competitor that isn’t full-time with the World of Outlaws can take down the country’s best drivers. Add it all up, and nearly $1 million in purse money will be handed out at Huset’s. If someone can cash in on the bounty, it’ll push the total north of $1 million.

Knoxville and Huset’s may share few similarities in terms of size and shape, but it never hurts to get a little confidence and momentum rolling into one of the biggest events of the year.

ROOKIE ON THE RISE: Jedrzejek Reflects on First Podium, Readies for Summer of Money

tyler carr

HARTFORD, MI (June 4, 2026) - Kasey Jedrzejek admits he’s viewed the replay of last Friday’s race at River Cities Speedway over and over.

The 40-lapper couldn’t have started any better. Jedrzejek launched into the lead from the pole and set sail in lapped traffic. Even two-time and defending World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champion David Gravel couldn’t chase him down. Jedrzejek appeared primed to take the Bill Rose Racing No. 6 to Victory Lane, but a pivotal Lap 15 restart cost him.

Gravel timed it perfectly on the outside and snatched the lead from the 21-year-old. Jedrzejek stayed up front the remainder of the race but couldn’t quite challenge to regain the lead, eventually crossing the finish line third.

“I probably have watched the race back like 10 times already, to be honest,” Jedrzejek said. “I still feel like I got a pretty decent launch. I’m guessing the top was probably a little bit better to get a little bit more of a run down the front straightaway than the bottom was. I just wasn’t sure where to choose to go on the restart. I felt like I got a decent launch across the bottom on the initial start, so I thought that I’d be okay for the second one, and I thought it still had a little bit of grip down there enough to get me going.”

Leading and not winning is bound to bring a measure of disappointment, but Jedrzejek has nothing to hang his head about. Rose gave him a shot to compete at the highest level of the sport, and he’s proving he belongs. Before the restart, the Lagrange, OH native was absolutely checked out, disposing of lappers with ease. But sometimes, a savvy veteran simply gets the best of a rookie. He’d made only six Feature starts with the World of Outlaws before going full-time. A podium this early in the year is something to be proud of.

“The whole night went really well, honestly,” Jedrzejek said. “We were very happy to come home third. It was a very solid night for us compared to how the past month has went. We’ve been pretty up and down with results, and it has been a little bit of a struggle, some bad luck, and things not going our way. So, we were all very happy with the way the night ended.”

There was another interesting element to Jedrzejek’s River Cities run. The Grand Forks, ND bullring is where his car owner Bill Rose also got his first podium with The Greatest Show on Dirt. The Plainfield, IN native started first and finished third in 2011, just like his driver did last week.

“Bill was telling us early in the week about that race and how he finished third, and it was his best result with the Outlaws,” Jedrzejek said. “So, to do it at the same track and end up running third, it was pretty cool and pretty neat to get my first podium with the Outlaws in that way.”

It was an overall encouraging night to cap a rollercoaster month of May for Jedrzejek. Now, he and every other driver on tour are getting geared up for a lucrative and busy summer stretch. Huset’s Speedway is dishing out nearly a million dollars in purse money during BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals week this month (July 17-20). The Kings Royal (July 17-18) takes place in his home state at Rossburg, OH’s Eldora Speedway and boasts plenty of riches up for grabs. The NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s (Aug. 12-15) offers the most generous purse from top to bottom in the sport. These are only a few of the many events that comprise the Summer of Money. Jedrzejek is ready to stop watching Friday’s replay and direct his entire focus to the future.

“I feel like we always get better everywhere we go throughout the night, but sometimes we’re just too late by the end of the night and we’re too far behind to make it up. So, I think it’s exciting to go back to some of these tracks. I’m excited to go to Huset’s in a couple weeks for some big money shows out there. I feel like that could be a place that I could be really good at.”

Jedrzejek’s rookie campaign continues this weekend with a three-track tripleheader at Hartford Speedway (Hartford, MI) on Friday, June 5, Plymouth Dirt Track (Plymouth, WI) on Saturday, June 6, and Angell Park Speedway (Sun Prairie, WI) on Sunday, June 7. For tickets, CLICK HERE.

Three Tracks in Three Nights Open Major Month of June

tyler carr

HARTFORD, MI (June 2, 2026) - The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series is gearing up for a full weekend of action with three races at three different tracks in three nights.

First on the agenda is a highly anticipated return to Michigan. The tour hasn’t crossed into the state’s border since 2019, but that’ll change on Friday, June 5, when Hartford Speedway takes center stage for the Pure Michigan Showdown.

Then, it’s around the southern rim of Lake Michigan and up to Wisconsin’s Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, June 6, for the Cheese Town Showdown. The World of Outlaws returned to the “Badger State” track in thrilling fashion a year ago after two decades away.

Finalizing the weekend is a Sunday, June 7, stop at Sun Prairie, WI’s Angell Park Speedway. It’ll be a special night as the tour honors the man responsible for the World of Outlaws with the Ted Johnson Memorial Race at the track where he fell in love with the sport.

A tripleheader at three dirt tracks awaits. The Greatest Show on Dirt is ready to log some miles this weekend.

Let’s look at the top stories to watch:

NIGHTMARE’S HOME

Few fanbases appreciate a local hero the way Wisconsin loves Bill Balog. His route is a bit unconventional in spending multiple decades racing on a primarily local basis before deciding to hit the road with the World of Outlaws. He amassed a huge following in the “Badger State” over that time, and they’re always eager to welcome him to familiar territory.

The numbers are enormous for Balog at both Wisconsin tracks ahead. He’s won a whopping 20 times at Plymouth with the Interstate Racing Association (IRA). Two of those were co-sanctioned events with the All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC). Balog was seventh at last year’s Cheese Town Showdown. His versatility has been on display at Angell Park with 16 victories spread across Wing Sprint Cars, Non-Wing Sprint Cars, and Midgets.

Balog heads home still chasing his first checkered flag of the season. He’s been close with laps led at multiple races and a Kennedale Speedway Park runner-up. History says don’t be surprised if he’s in contention this weekend.

MIGHTY IN MICHIGAN

There’s only one driver on the tour currently with a World of Outlaws win at Hartford, and it’s the two-time and defending champion, David Gravel.

The Watertown, CT native took the CJB Motorsports No. 5 to Victory Lane in 2017. He backed that up two years later in a different ride, the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41, by being the last of a three-leader thriller at Hartford. That made him the first and only competitor to top consecutive visits.

Friday will be Gravel’s first visit to the “Great Lakes State” since climbing aboard the Big Game Motorsports No. 2, but the team itself finished on the podium at Hartford in 2011 with Craig Dollansky. Gravel enters the weekend atop the standings with a 114-point advantage.

UNDEFEATED

Sheldon Haudenschild will put his perfect Angell Park record on the line Sunday at Angell Park.

He debuted at the 1/3 mile during a 2014 IRA race aboard Chris Hartnell’s No. 48H and got the job done. The Wooster, OH native didn’t return for 11 years, but once he did, the result was the same as he steered the Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing No. 17 from third to the front. He’ll aim to make it three wins in three rides Sunday as he makes the trip with the KCP Racing crew.

Recent weeks have produced a stretch of consistency for Haudenschild in the NOS Energy Drink No. 18. He’s bagged six top fives in the last eight races, including a pair of runner-up results. He and Donny Schatz have traded the fourth spot in points several times this year, and Haudenschild’s May speed has given him the advantage by six markers entering June.

SUN PRAIRIE SPEED

Haudenschild might be the only one with a perfect record at Angell Park, but he’s not the lone World of Outlaws competitor to find some speed in Sun Prairie, WI.

Donny Schatz’s first visit to Angell Park ended in Victory Lane. He claimed the World of Outlaws debut at the oval in 2016 aboard the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 and will head there this Sunday in the CJB Motorsports No. 15.

Before his time on the World of Outlaws tour began, Carson Macedo topped a POWRi Midget race at Angell Park a decade ago. His best Sprint Car result there is seventh at a 2016 IRA race aboard Jimmy Davies’ No. 99X. Macedo enters the weekend as the most recent Series winner, courtesy of charging from ninth to the checkered flag at River Cities Speedway on Friday.

SUMMER OF MONEY LOOMS

The time is now for World of Outlaws teams to make sure their cars are firing on all cylinders.

The beginning of the “Summer of Money” is less than three weeks away. What began as the Month of Money has evolved into a three-month stretch filled by pocket-stuffing races. From June 17 through Sept. 19, the teams will tackle 14 races that send the winner home with at least $20,000. Four of them serve up a six-figure payday, including the largest in Series history, the $300,000-to-win finale of the BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals on June 20. That’s part of a massive week at Huset’s Speedway that also boasts the $150,000-to-win Hefty Seed Huset’s Hustle on June 18.

The stretch also features the $200,000-to-win Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway (July 17-18) and the $200,000-to-win NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s at Knoxville Raceway (Aug. 12-15). It’s punctuated by the $83,000-to-win Dennis Roth Classic at California’s Stockton Dirt Track (Sept. 18-19).

This is life-changing money on the line as the sport of Sprint Car racing continues to reach new heights.

seth Bergman Takes Second Win of 2026 in Salute to Service Sprint Car Showdown at 81 Speedway

Matt Skipper

PARK CITY, KS (June 6, 2026) — Seth Bergman’s hard work has put him at the heart of the American Sprint Car Series championship fight in 2026.

The Snohomish, WA racer collected his second win of the season in the Salute to Service Sprint Car Showdown through a competitive 25 laps around 81 Speedway.

Starting the Feature from the front row, Bergman and polesitter Whit Gastineau raced side-by-side through the opening lap until Gastineau gained clearance of Bergman by using the high line of the 3/8-mile track.

Through the first nine laps, Bergman played second fiddle to Gastineau while Sam Hafertepe Jr. and Matt Covington joined the battle for the top spot as lap traffic began to play a factor.

On Lap 10, Bergman made his move for the lead by peeling to the bottom lane into Turn 1 while Gastineau ran the cushion. The two drivers stayed even across the backstretch until Bergman pulled out in front of Gastineau off of Turn 4 to secure the top spot.

As Bergman shifted his No. 23 Maxim Chassis to the cushion, Hafertepe pulled ahead of Gastineau on Lap 14 to secure second place as Gastineau played defense on Covington to keep his podium position.

While Hafertepe kept Bergman within his eyesight, he was unable to reach the 2024 Series champion as the traffic forced him to deviate from his racing line to chase down the leader.

Bergman never relinquished the lead as he drove to his 28th career ASCS National Tour triumph. The win placed him in a tie with 2003 Series champ Travis Rilat for ninth on the all-time wins list.

“You gotta go, you gotta set a pace,” Bergman said. “We had a really good night. We’ve yet to unload, and being good out of the box. Because then you’re chasing all night. But tonight, we unloaded really good, and we were able to fine-tune on this hot rod all night. We used the Dash as a little bit of a learning experience and gave us some really good direction for the Feature.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am with this team and race car. That was hands down the best race car I’ve had in a long time, and it’s not by chance. What’s so satisfying is that it’s something we’ve been working really, really hard at, and we’ve gotten our butts kicked a lot. It’s very humbling; you gotta grind through when you’re not good. And tonight, we were exceptional.”

Hafertepe finished the night with a runner-up result to retain the Series lead by 22 points over Covington and 23 points away from Bergman.

Blake Hahn Performs Masterclass in First Don Swope Classic Victory at Creek County Speedway

Richard Bales

SAPULPA, OK (June 6, 2026) — Any win with the American Sprint Car Series is special for Blake Hahn.
However, winning at the track his grandfather, Emmett Hahn, built in an event honoring family friend Don Swope hits close to home.

The Sapulpa, OK driver set the pace throughout the night at the Creek County Speedway, winning his Heat race, then secured Pole Position after winning the Honest Abe Roffing Dash.

When the green flag dropped, Hahn jumped to the top spot over Alex Sewell and Sam Hafertepe Jr. with his No. 52 Sprint Car using the cushion in the early stages.

Behind the leaders, trouble ensued for ASCS National Tour title chaser Kyler Johnson as he was involved in two separate incidents through the first six laps of the 30-lap Feature that took him out of contention.

Hahn continued to orchestrate the speed at 1/4-mile bullring around the top as Sewell and Hafertepe used the bottom lane in their hunt for the lead.

Suddenly, Hafertepe’s engine expired on Lap 14, which immediately took him out of the race and put his Series points lead in jeopardy as direct challenger Matt Covington inherited the podium position.

Hahn continued to keep Sewell at bay throughout the second half as the No. 8 dealt with Covington’s attempts at taking the runner-up position away.

Leading by 1.5 seconds over the two drivers, Hahn wheeled to the twin checkered flags in scoring the denim overalls and a case of beer for his 26th career National Tour win and his first Don Swope Classic triumph.

“This means a lot; Swope’s been instrumental for my family,” Hahn said. “He’s always been one of those guys that was always there when we needed him. Him with Jeremy McGehee and those group of guys, we wouldn’t be able to be where we are with the Chili Bowl and Tulsa Shootout.

“Truthfully, it’s really cool. I’ve been wanting to win this one for him really bad. So to be able to win, it means a lot. One of the cooler things is that the race shop I work out of was handmade by Don Swope. I’m really excited to be on the podium and thankful to have my family here with me too.”

With Hafertepe finishing in 17th and Covington completing the night in third, they are separated by a mere five points in the Series standings, leaving the night at Creek County.

Recap Notes:

Quick Time Award: Sam Hafertepe Jr.

Heat Winners: Blake Hahn, Alex Sewell, Kade Morton

Hard Charger Award: Bradley Fezard (+8)

Up Next: The American Sprint Car Series heads to Park City, KS, with the ASCS Sooner Region and Gunsmoke Region for the Salute to Service Sprint Car Showdown at 81 Speedway on Saturday, June 6.

Covington Holding ASCS Title Fight Within Reach Entering Summer Stretch

Emily Schwanke

LOCUST GROVE, AR (June 11, 2026) — Matt Covington has seen this script before.

Sam Hafertepe Jr. leads the American Sprint Car Series points, while Covington remains on his tail for the title fight entering the summer stretch.

In years past, that story has ended with Covington having to watch Hafertepe or another driver run away with the title. This year, the Glenpool, OK driver wants to flip the script.

Sitting second in points – 22 points behind Hafertepe – with one win, five top fives and eight top 10s in the first 11 races, including three straight top fives, the veteran is primed to keep his stout run going throughout the summer, starting this weekend at Batesville Motor Speedway, June 13.

“We’re pretty par for the course if you look at years past,” Covington said. “We’re kind of right where we always are, but I think the real difference is going to be what happens from here forward. Being in the same place we are, it doesn’t sound great because we seem to be pretty decent at running second and third in the championship. We’re hoping to be where we are right now, but the points are real close, and I feel like it depends on where we go from here.”

Hafertepe’s recent engine issue at Creek County Speedway, helped Covington keep a close points gap, but capitalizing on others’ woes and minimizing his own will be key to determining this year’s champion, he said.

“It’d be nice to have more of a lead on Sam,” Covington said. “I’ve seen him do it before, but come mid-summer, the guy goes on a tear. I know he and Bergman are capable of doing it. You can go back over 10 years, where he goes on a four-win streak, and that’s in the back of our minds. Sam is not a guy that typically DNFs a lot, and if you took his whole career, he’s not a guy that does so very often.

“We’ve been good at not taking a DNF; some of that goes back to my sponsorship situation, where we got to be a little more conservative. Because not only are we trying to win the championship, but we’re trying to stay out there all season. We’ve tried to not be so much of a points racer, but at the same time, I know who we’re doing battle with, and we can’t let them get away from us.”

Covington is the meat in the three-driver points sandwich entering Batesville, with Seth Bergman also in the title hunt, only one point behind Covington. While the Series has not reached the halfway point, the urgency to secure the lead and reach his five-win goal is prominent.

“The urgency is already there,” Covington admitted. “Sam’s got us by (22) points, and we’re going into mid-summer, which seems to be his part of the year. If I had a 100-point lead at this point, then maybe I’d approach points races a little bit differently. But right now, we have the sense of urgency where we still need to win at least four more Series races to get to our five-win number. We better bring a fast car to Batesville because we need to rack off a few more wins, and they’re not easy to come by.

“At 81, we didn’t have the car to win, but we put ourselves in a position to win. We’re only going to be able to get away with that so many times before we start falling back to the No. 15H. You don’t want to lose the title from something stupid or taking chances that weren’t necessary, but we’re not in that spot right now. We just need to show up, win, and get in their heads like, ‘Hey, the 95 car is the fastest right now,’ and make these guys think they need to do something different.”

After Batesville, the Series will close out June with The Big One at Belleville High Banks. While Covington has never won at either facility, he knows the balance of having speed and maneuverability at the tracks, with career-high finishes of third at Batesville (2024) and fourth at Belleville (2025).

“I think it’s been proven before that if a guy’s car is good, you’re going to be able to drive around some people,” Covington said. “There’s certain conditions that make it tougher than others, so you can’t beat the track position. But it’s not impossible. A guy can have a car with front-running speed, but isn’t maneuverable enough to get through traffic good.

“Qualifying brought a different element to the Series. We used to do a blank field draw, but you could get stuck in a bad draw, and it’d be damn near impossible to recover. There’s a car that is better in clean air than a car that is maneuverable in traffic, and I hear some of the younger guys struggle with that. Eventually, these guys are going to figure it out, but right now, it’s me, Sam, and Bergman that have it figured out, and it’s why you see us consistently qualifying in the front.”

Covington will get back to work with the American Sprint Car Series on Saturday, June 13, to chase a $4,000 payday at Batesville.

Here are the top storylines to look for:

Back Home Again - “The Natural State” was the first state to welcome the American Sprint Car Series with its introductory race at I-30 Speedway in 1993.

Batesville hosted the Series for the first time in 1996, with Mike Ward winning the first two races. The track hosted the National Tour from 1999 to 2004, and there was a 17-year wait before it returned to the annual schedule in 2021.

Ward, Gary Wright, and Tim Crawley own the most Series wins at the track with three apiece. Last year, two-time Series champion Blake Hahn drove to Victory Lane at the 3/8-mile for the first time.

Needing A Spark - As the American Sprint Car Series reaches the second quarter of the 2026 season, Sam Hafertepe Jr. needs a pitch of momentum to contain his points lead at Batesville.

Hafertepe has held the point lead for most of the season, but his last few starts have caused him to lose a little grip. At Benton, he was leading until contact with a lapped car forced him to settle for ninth. Then, at Creek County, he suffered an engine issue halfway through the Feature while running in third place.

While he recovered at 81 Speedway with a runner-up finish to keep the lead (22 points over Matt Covington), he’s looking for luck to turn his direction at Batesville. The six-time Series champion has finished second and fifth, respectively, in his last two track appearances.

Striking Distance - Matt Covington has been one of the most consistent drivers in the last eight races, earning an average finish of 4.8. He was the first full-time driver to win this year and has scored eight top 10 finishes in a row, including three top fives in the last three races.

Those results have helped him close in on Hafertepe’s points lead, currently 22 points back.

That streak could continue this weekend as the Glenpool, OK native has never finished worse than ninth in four starts at Batesville. He earned top five in his 2021 debut at the track and a podium in 2024.

Grind Never Stops - Seth Bergman’s recent strong runs, including a win last weekend, have him back in the fight for his second Series title – sitting 23 points back from the lead.

The 2024 Series champion has proven to be the hottest driver on the circuit by maintaining a streak of five consecutive top fives, including wins at Benton Speedway and 81 Speedway.

While the Snohomish, WA driver finished 18th in his 2025 visit, he owns the track record (12.429 sec.) and finished in the top five at the Arkansas facility during his championship season. Winning on Saturday will make him the first three-time winner in the 2026 campaign.

Every Point Matters – After 11 races, ASCS enters Batesville with points battles throughout the top 10 in points.

The top three are separated by 23 points. Behind them, fourth-place Kyler Johnson and fifth-place Whit Gastineau sit three points apart. Sixth through eighth sees Brogan Carder, Ryder Laplante, and Austyn Gossel separated by 28 points. Then, six markers split Terry Easum and Cole Schroeder to determine ninth and 10th.

Eight drivers are still hunting for their first win this season, and among them (Johnson, Carder, Laplante, Gossel, and Schroeder) are looking for their first overall Series win.

Ryder Laplante Returns to Daily Routine, Preparing for ASCS National Tour Comeback

SAPULPA, OK (June 3, 2026) — When the American Sprint Car Series visited Benton Speedway on May 8, Ryder Laplante was sitting at home, waiting for the chance to drive a Sprint Car again.

The week beforehand, the Calcera, OK native, was involved in a violent crash at Texas Motor Speedway that destroyed his No. 88R machine.

While he climbed out of the car and walked away under his own power, he knew he needed to take a step back to prioritize his health, taking a week of rest while the Series competed in Missouri.

“Mainly after the crash, I really couldn’t feel my right arm at all for about an hour, then I got feeling back,” Laplante said. “My bicep to my shoulder was really black and purple, I really couldn’t touch or move it for about a week. Then, my head was really foggy, so that’s when I knew I needed to calm down, sit back, and put my health first before I got back in the car again.”

After two weeks of resting and healing, Laplante returned to the seat at Hunt County Raceway but finished 19th after an early DNF.

The week after, he visited Southern Oklahoma Speedway with a 305 c.i. engine under the hood and returned to contending for victory. While Laplante led the first half of the night’s Feature, he came home in second place while trying to regain confidence in himself after the injury.

“It’s taken me some time,” Laplante said. “We raced last week, and I still wasn’t 100% with my head. Mentally, I wasn’t driving the car as I should. We did really good, but I wasn’t Ryder Laplante behind the wheel. So, I’m still trying to get my head right. I’m going back to the gym, getting my routine back, keeping up with my dieting, and doing all that I need to do daily.”

Laplante will make his return to full-time American Sprint Car Series competition in the Don Swope Classic at Creek County Speedway. The next day, he’ll travel northwest to Kansas for 81 Speedway’s Salute to Service Sprint Car Showdown.

The 19-year-old “Sooner State” racer has two Micro Sprint wins at “Creekadega” and finished top-10 in the 2025 edition. After Friday, it’ll be the last Series race at a 1/4-mile until Worthington Speedway on July 30, but the challenge of bigger tracks has Laplante unfazed by pressure.

“My mentality at Creek County is always, if you can come out there and finish the race, that’s a win,” Laplante said. “Anything else is a bonus. It’s a tough track, but we can get a top-10 there. I think we could finish podium or top five really easily.

“I’m really starting to get comfortable on these high-speed tracks. Me and my dad, our communication is getting better with the car, and our results are showing for it. I’m really starting to favor these fast tracks. I don’t know why. I used to hate them, but it’s good to be excited about.”

Despite Laplante’s absence at Benton, his sophomore season with the ASCS National Tour has not shown signs of a slump. He earned two top-10s at Volusia Speedway Park and Central Arizona Speedway, sitting seventh place in the points standings through the first nine races.

“We’ve picked up a lot of speed, and we’ve learned a lot this year,” Laplante said. “Last year was just a rookie year. We were basically in school all of 2025, and I feel like we’re putting down what we learned now.

“We got eighth at Volusia from the back of the field against the best guys in the world racing 360 Sprint Cars, then we had that sixth place at Case Grande. It’s just about getting back into our rhythm, getting back into the top five in points, then build on from there.”

Laplante will get back behind the wheel of the Oklahoma Truck Driving Academy No. 88R at Creek County Speedway for the Don Swope Classic on Friday, June 5, and the Salute to Service Sprint Car Showdown at 81 Speedway on Saturday, June 6. The ASCS Sooner Region will join the National Tour for both nights, while the ASCS Gunsmoke Region will tag along for the Saturday event.

SAPULPA, OK (June 2, 2026) — The American Sprint Car Series is back in the Great Plains for a two-state weekend against two ASCS regional campaigns.

The ASCS National Tour will visit Creek County Speedway for the first time in 2026 for the Don Swope Classic with the ASCS Sooner Region on Friday, June 5.

On Saturday, both tours will travel 190 miles northwest to Park City, KS, to join the ASCS Gunsmoke Region for the Salute to Service Sprint Car Showdown at 81 Speedway.

Drivers will chase a $4,000-to-win payday both nights. Tickets for both events will be sold at the track on race day.

WATCH ON DIRTVISION

Here are the top storylines to look for:

Repeat Sweep? - Sam Hafertepe Jr. enjoyed his visits to both tracks on the weekend’s slate in 2025, winning the Don Swope Classic and a September visit to 81 Speedway.

The National Tour points leader has the most wins of any driver at the “Sooner State” facility with six and is tied with Jason Martin for the most at 81 with back-to-back Feature triumphs in 2024 and 2025.

Success at Creek County has helped the Sunnyvale, TX, racer reach the Series championship multiple times. His Feature wins at the bullring in 2016, 2018-19, and 2025 helped lead him to hoist the Emmett Hahn Trophy at year’s end.

Podium Standoff - Matt Covington and Seth Bergman have seen similar avenues towards earning a podium spot in the Series standings. Still, both drivers are chasing a second Feature win in the year to reach Hafertepe for the top spot.

Covington has finished in the top-10 in every Feature since the opening night of the Sonoran Clash, including three podiums and his first win of the year on the second night at Central Arizona Raceway. The Glenpool, OK, racer’s night at Benton Speedway saw him rally from an early incident to finish third.

Bergman had to go back to the drawing board after a sluggish start at Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals. The refresh paid dividends for the No. 23 Oklahoma Chillers Sprint Car with four straight top-10 finishes at Central Arizona, two straight podium finishes, and his first win of the year at Benton.

Growing Pains - Kyler Johnson’s fourth-place standing is the highest he has ever been with the National Tour. Entering Creek County and 81, he’ll be seeking redemption from his 24th-place finish during the last Series race at Benton.

A broken O-ring in the engine’s barrel valve at Benton ended Johnson’s night before he could even compete in the event. In his first race after visiting Missouri, Johnson dominated the night at Phillips County Raceway to score his first win of 2026 with the ASCS Western Plains and Gunsmoke Regions.

While the Quinter, KS driver is hunting his first top-10 at Creek County since 2023, 81 stores the memories of his first United Rebel Sprint Series win and first National Tour podium. He’ll look to make the weekend the sight of his first career Series win.

Honoring Don - The Friday showcase at Creek County Speedway honors Don Swope – a close friend of Emmett Hahn and one of the most respected construction workers who transformed the SageNet Center into the home of the Chili Bowl Nationals and Tulsa Shootout.

Swope passed away from cancer in 2020, and the event was formed in 2021 to honor his contributions to the Tulsa, OK, racing scene. In the inaugural Feature, 14-year-old Ryan Timms held off Michael Faccinto for his third-career Series win.

Sam Hafertepe Jr. has controlled the Don Swope Classic the last two seasons with wins in 2024 and 2025. The last time the Series visited “Creekadega,” Blake Hahn and Zach Daum closed the season with triumphs in the Fuzzy’s Fall Fling.

Regional Clashes - The National Tour will be accompanied by the ASCS Sooner Region at Creek County and 81, while the ASCS Gunsmoke Region will join both tours for the Saturday in Park City, KS.

The Sooner Region opened its 2026 season with the Series in April at Salina Highbanks Speedway and saw Chris Martin claim the win. Gunsmoke began their championship hunt in May with Ryder McCutcheon driving to the win at Dodge City Raceway Park.

When Gunsmoke and the ASCS Western Plains Region raced together at Phillips County Speedway on Memorial Day weekend, National Tour regular Kyler Johnson captured the win.
