Moran Pockets $25,000 in Wieland Winter Nationals Finale

OCALA, FL (February 8, 2025) – Devin Moran outdueled Jonathan Davenport to claim victory in the 50-lap Wieland Winter Nationals finale on Saturday night at Ocala Speedway after starting from the inside of the fourth row. This event marked the largest payout in track history, with Moran taking home $25,000 for his third series win of the season.

Davenport crossed the line in second, followed by Ricky Thornton Jr., Brandon Overton, and Garrett Alberson.

Davenport seemed to control the race until Moran went to the top side of turns one and two, successfully tracking down Davenport to take the race lead for good with about 12 laps remaining after the two had exchanged the lead several times. Moran had claimed the second position from Thornton following a caution at the halfway point and then aggressively pursued Davenport after the last caution occurred with 20 laps left.

Moran, in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 18th time in his career, came from the seventh starting spot to claim the win. It was Moran’s third career win at Ocala.

“I just gassed on it. This is why we come to Florida for Speedweeks. Everybody has been talking about this or that, and obviously, we aren't at East Bay. We all love East Bay, but this is my favorite time of year. We just put on one hell of a show for the crowd here and everyone watching home,” said the Dresden, Ohio native.

“My the biggest problem was that I just couldn’t restart well all week; however, I finally found the track that could help me restart better. I went wherever they were, and JD was turning down just enough for me to get a run. That last one was really good, but I needed the long runs. We kept having caution after caution, and I was worried about Ricky underneath me. I didn’t expect to finish seventh to win tonight. Last night had the best track conditions, but they still needed to work on it a little, and they did that. They provided us with an amazing experience racetrack.”

Davenport, who led the most laps during the race, came home with his third runner-up finish during Speedweeks.

“We I went with a soft tire there, and I think we were the only car in the field to do so. I don’t know if that played a role, but I probably wouldn’t have gotten the lead without the soft tire. Devin did a great job; I knew it was going to be moving around. I just got slower and slower on the bottom, and I was kind of stuck there with that tire, so I couldn’t really move around a lot. Once I moved all the way to the top, I was okay, but it was a long way around and pretty treacherous. What a cool racetrack to be that wide! It actually raced a lot better than I thought it would there.”

Thornton, the defending series champion, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third.

“The the racetrack was awesome! Bubba told us he was going to get us to where we were running the wall, and I literally think I was on the wall. It was probably the best racetrack we had all week. In the end, I think I made the wrong tire call; we went hard, and the track didn’t slow down as much as I needed it to. Congrats to Devin and JD; they each drove a great race. I almost wish I had in-car camera because it was pretty fun watching those two race it out out.”

The winner’s Double Down Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Lazyday’s RV, C&W Trucking, Bomag, Millwood Plumbing, Refuel Wellness, Phillips CPA, Bilstein Shocks, Red Oak Pub, Pee Wee’s Wrecker Service,

Thornton Claims Friday’s Wieland Winter Nationals at Ocala

OCALA, FL (February 7, 2025) – The reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion Ricky Thornton Jr. led from start to finish on Friday night at the Wieland Winter Nationals held at Ocala Speedway, earning $12,000 for his 45th career series victory.

Hudson O’Neal took the second spot on lap 17 from Devin Moran and held it for the rest of the race, securing his best tour finish of the year. Moran rounded out the Big River Steel podium in third, with Bobby Pierce finishing fourth and Jonathan Davenport completing the top five.

Thornton moved for the lead on the opening lap, passing Moran for the top spot. Thornton and Moran then ran 1-2 until Brian Shirley, who started third, moved into the runner-up spot on lap five. A flat right rear tire on lap 16 ended his hopes for his first career series win.

Moran had moved into second place, ahead of Shirley before his flat tire. On lap 17, Moran saw O’Neal pass him to take the second position. O’Neal, Moran, and Bobby Pierce battled fiercely for the next several laps while Thornton maintained a healthy lead over that trio, crossing the finish line in first by 2.503 seconds.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the third time this season in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing, and for the fourth in his career at Ocala, Thornton commented: “I I was more frustrated that I lapped Jimmy (Owens) during that lap when I was approaching the caution. I really didn’t want to see the yellow; I felt like I had a great pace going, and after that, it was like I needed to drive hard for a bit. I mean, it really highlights how good this Longhorn/Bilstein car is. I feel like we are picking up right where we left off last year. So hopefully, we can maintain this speed and have a solid run tomorrow.”

“I I was trying to get myself clear of the lapped cars,” Thornton added. “I felt like I could enter one and slide across to really get a good run off of two. I think I got to the 79 car, but he was actually better than I was off the bottom, so I moved down and watched Jimmy pass about four cars off turn two on the wall. I thought I’d better get back up there. The car’s been really good. I felt like we needed this one; we’ve been close since we put this new one in together.”

O’Neal was on the Big River Steel Podium for the first time in 2025 with the tour and had a hard battle with Moran and Pierce for much of the race.

“It’s It’s great to have this run. Like I said earlier, I felt like we’ve had some speed, but we just haven’t really been able to do anything with it. We don’t qualify very well, and it makes it really tough. I especially felt that if we ever got in the position to start up front, we would run up front, and we did tonight. Ricky was a little better than us. It was a good first night to be here on the podium, so we’ll go back and work on it to see if we can improve a bit for tomorrow night.”

Moran continued his consistent performance this season by taking the third spot at the finish.

“I we need to restart better. I felt like we had a really good car. I don’t know if we could have kept up with Ricky and the others every single restart; I would have to work to pass them. Hudson was good enough that I couldn’t get by him again. You can't complain about a third-place finish, especially with these guys. It seems like there are different winners almost every night, and someone goes on a streak. We need to work on it a little bit. We picked up our qualifying game tonight, and we just have to keep working on it restarts.”

The winner’s Koehler Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Ultimate Towing and Recovery, Hoker Trucking, Coltman Farms Racing, Elite Ready Mix, Capital Waste, Bilstein Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuels, EMD Wraps, and Certified Inspection Services.

Completing the top ten were Kyle Bronson, Dake Troutman, Daulton Wilson, Bradon Sheppard, and Max Blair.

Davenport Outduels Overton at Ocala

OCALA, FL (February 6, 2025) – Jonathan Davenport secured his second consecutive Wieland Winter Nationals feature on Thursday night at Ocala Speedway, as the three-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion fended off Brandon Overton to capture the $10,000 victory.

The final results will show that Davenport led all 40 laps, but Overton caught up to Davenport as they approached the white flag. However, he could never pass him to steal the win from his fellow Georgian, who triumphed by 0.538 seconds at the finish line. Kyle Bronson achieved his best series finish of the year, taking third, followed by Brandon Sheppard and Devin Moran, who rounded out the top five drivers.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 85th time in his career, Davenport also was victorious at Ocala for the fifth time in his career, the most all-time for any late model driver during Speedweeks at the egg-shaped track.

“He (Overton) made me more worried than I should have been. I didn’t know he was coming like that at the very end. It was kind of slimy around the bottom, so he just kept chasing it down and blowing it out. That was why I didn’t think we could move, and since I was in the front, I couldn’t tell what everyone else was doing. Once I got to the lapped cars, I didn’t think I could pass any on the outside. I think they finally rolled in a little of that slime through one and two. It was a little better through the middle, but it was kind of bumpy. As long as your car wouldn’t bounce too badly, I guess that was why he got that good run. Other than that, I was just blocking.”

Overton, in his return to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in 2025, was the third different driver to run second during the 40-lap race, joining Sheppard and Bronson in that category.

“I I felt like I was doing everything I could. I almost made a move on him there, but I just got my right rear quarter-panel in the wall and couldn’t get low enough to take the lead. It was an awesome race. If the fans didn’t enjoy that, they might as well stop coming. The wins are on the way. I feel like I have the best crew in the business. I just want to win one; I mean, we’re really close to winning one.”

Bronson, looking for his first series win since taking the Silver Dollar Nationals in 2021, regained the third position on lap 33 to round out the Big River Steel Podium.

“It definitely feels good to get a good finish. I have been down on myself a little bit. We’ve got everything we need to win; we just need to put the right pieces in the right places and go after it.”

The winner’s Double L Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, Dyna-Gro Seed, ASC Warranty, Mark Martin Automotive, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas.

Completing the top ten were Spencer Hughes, Ross Robinson, Tyler Bruening, Tanner English, and Dillon McCowan.

Davenport Secures First Lucas Oil Victory of 2025

OCALA, FL (February 5, 2025) – Jonathan Davenport secured his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing victory of the season on Wednesday at the Wieland Winter Nationals held at Ocala Speedway. The Blairsville, Georgia native earned $7,000 for his 84th career series win.

Last year’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Rookie of the Year, Drake Troutman, who started in ninth place, traded positions with defending series champion Ricky Thornton Jr. for second place in the final two laps, securing the runner-up spot at the finish line. Thornton finished third, while Tim McCreadie and Brandon Overton rounded out the top five drivers.

Davenport started from the pole position and took the lead as soon as the green flag dropped. In the first five laps, there were two caution flags while Overton maintained second place behind the three-time series champion. The final 24 laps ran without caution as Thornton, driving a brand-new car, moved into second place, passing Overton on lap 18.

With heavy traffic in front of the leader, Thornton was able to close the gap between himself and Davenport with ten laps to go. Meanwhile, Troutman had reached third by using the top line around the track, moving the G.R. Smith entry to third on lap 21.

As Davenport navigated through traffic, the battle for second place was heating up between Thornton and Troutman. The two swapped the second position a couple of times in the last two laps, with Troutman managing to edge out Thornton at the finish.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the first time this season, Davenport also became the first driver in six races this year to lead every lap in the main event, winning for the fourth time in his career at Ocala.

“The pace is so slow in turn four, and you feel like you're crawling around the bottom. You feel like you're spinning your wheels going around the top. We really didn’t know what to do. I saw Brandon (Overton) starting to run the top down here (in three and four) and start passing some cars. I got around a couple of lapped cars, and I kind of died a little bit because the outside of turn one is wider. I don’t know we still have a little bit of work to do. Man, we have been really consistent. I am just proud of my guys they have done a good job for me.”

Troutman got his best finish of the season, taking the runner-up spot in a hard-fought battle with Thornton.

“Man, I put my crew through the wringer last week at All-Tech. No, it’s pretty awesome you know we’ve got a pretty good car. The track was awesome tonight, and it widened out there. I hope we put on a good show for the fans and hopefully get a little bit better for tomorrow night.”

Thornton, who took Tuesday night’s race off to finish up his new Longhorn Chassis, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third.

“I need to get up on the wheel harder and longer I guess. I was just riding there behind (Brian) Shirley, and I messed up I think twice and let Troutman get by me and then I don’t know. We all got through traffic pretty good you could kind of move high or low, there at the beginning really didn’t know if I needed to be on the top of one and two or not. I tried it right away and lost a couple of spots. Overall, it was a great night, the first night on this thing. Hopefully, we can have a good run tomorrow and qualify well. Starting up front is kind of a premium here because everyone is really good, and the way the shape is here, you can really manipulate your car really well.”

Completing the top ten were Daulton Wilson, Hudson O’Neal, Ross Robinson, Mark Whitener, and Max Blair.

Moran takes Wieland Winter Nationals Opener at Ocala...

Tuesday FebruaRY 4TH...kevin Moran continued his winning ways with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing, capturing the 30-lap $7,000 Wieland Winter Nationals main event on Tuesday night at Ocala Speedway

OCALA, FL (February 4, 2025) – Devin Moran continued his winning ways with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing, capturing the 30-lap $7,000 Wieland Winter Nationals main event on Tuesday night at Ocala Speedway. Moran took the lead on lap 24 from Brandon Overton, who had led the first 23 laps, as the Dresden, Ohio driver secured his 17th career series victory.

Overton, who fell back to third on a restart with five laps remaining, managed to get around Jonathan Davenport with two laps left. He then closed in on Moran at the end, finishing just .0264 seconds behind. Davenport secured the final spot on the Big River Steel Podium in third. The rest of the top five consisted of Carson Ferguson and Hudson O’Neal.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the second time in his career at Ocala and the second consecutive time this season, Moran recalls his early-week successes in previous years at Easy Bay.

“Just like for the Winternationals at East Bay, I felt I was really good the first night, so bringing that over to Bubba’s place is awesome, and taking his money is great too. As I mentioned earlier tonight, I thought the track would be pretty good, and it did seem good. Turns out, one and two finally started to come in once it slowed down. He (Overton) finally caught lapped traffic, which threw him off a bit. I’ve watched a lot of film and seen how to take different lines here to gain speed. I tried them all and finally found one that worked. It was really cool to get the first win of the week here. I wish it was a points night, but that’s alright. We’ll take the money and get ready for the rest of the week.”

Overton, who started on the Victory Fuel Pole, led unchallenged for the first 20 laps of the race until traffic started to play a part as a long stretch of green flag racing allowed Moran and Davenport to make it a three-way battle for the top spot.

“I I was just trying to outsmart them on that restart. I figured he (Moran) would go to the bottom in turns one and two, but he went to the top on that restart, which really threw me off. I just wheelied and pushed and got back behind JD, and I was able to enter a little lower than everyone else in three. We had a good enough car to win. I just got too close to the lapped car and spun the tires leaving turn two. It was just one of those nights when running second felt better than being out front. So, we'll take it; we are making gains every day.”

Davenport created an exciting three-car battle before the caution flag waved with 25 laps completed. He briefly took second place when Overton slipped up the track on the restart, but Overton managed to pass him again on the final lap.

“I I thought I had passed Overton before the caution, but they said I wasn’t ahead of him that lap. We had a great race there. They got a bit held up in lapped traffic and I caught up to them. I found the top down on that end and we were just a little better. We tried something new tonight, but I don’t think it worked as well. We know what we need to do to improve for tomorrow and the rest of the week. It’s sunny in Florida, and it’s 80 degrees; we’re all having a good time down here.”

The winner’s Double Down Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, C&W Trucking, Red Oak Pub, Bomag, Anthony’s Pizza, Millwood Plumbing, CarSourceAuto.com, Refuel Wellness, Pee Wee’s Wrecker Service, McHugh, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, Eibach Springs, Smoky Mountain Speedway, and Haulin’ Haskell’s.

Completing the top ten were Tyler Erb, Max Blair, Wil Herrington, Tim McCreadie, and Jimmy Owens.

Moran Banks $15,000 for First-Career All-Tech Score

LAKE CITY, FL (February 1, 2025) – Devin Moran surged from his 11th starting position, took the lead for good on the 43rd lap, and then held on for a green-white-checkered finish after a caution came out with two laps remaining, securing the $15,000 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing, Wieland Winter Nationals main event on Saturday night at All-Tech Raceway.

In a race that featured six official lead changes among four different drivers, Moran, who led laps 13-16, regained the lead in the hard-fought contest from Ricky Thornton Jr. with seven laps remaining.

Jonathan Davenport finished in second, with the Hoker Trucking Hard Charger of the Race, Tyler Erb, rounding out the Big River Steel Podium in third. Garrett Alberson was fourth, and Tim McCreadie rounded out the top five drivers.

Brandon Overton, who started from the Victory Fuel pole, led the first two laps until Alberson passed him coming off of turn four to take the lead on the third lap. It was Thornton’s turn to lead as he claimed the top spot on lap 10. Thornton, who entered the event with three victories in his last four starts at All-Tech, aimed to win all three Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events presented by FloRacing this week.

Thornton’s stay at the point was short-lived as Moran charged from the inside of row six and made his first appearance at the top of the leader board, grabbing the lead on lap 13 from Thornton. But like Thornton, Moran’s lead was not for long, as by the 16th lap, Thornton was back out in front.

Thornton would then lead the next 25 circuits in what was shaping up to be an outstanding battle for the lead among Thornton, Moran, and Davenport, a trio later joined by Alberson.

Moran managed to regain the lead from Thornton on lap 43, as there was nearly a three-wide battle for second place coming off turn four with two laps remaining. However, Thornton’s night ended abruptly after making hard contact with the front stretch wall. Moran then successfully navigated a two-lap sprint to the finish to secure the victory.

Moran celebrated his 16th career victory in Lucas Oil Victory Lane, marking his first win at All-Tech.

“It’s It was just awesome! You know, everybody’s been talking about the track and all that. I don’t think you can find a better racetrack than tonight. It was so wild; it felt like we were running sprint car lines. I love watching sprint cars! You dive in, then come back down the hill, and we started ripping it. This place is so much fun; it's so underrated. In my opinion, it’s a top five track in the country doubt,” said the Dresden, Ohio native.

“The line was changing throughout the race; he [Thornton] started railing the top in one and two while I was still trying to work that little diamond deal and hit the bottom. There just wasn’t enough off the bottom in two, so I finally started going around that top, and I began to make up ground on Ricky. When we got into lapped traffic and headed to the back straightaway, I knew I had to go for it, and I did. I finally won at All-Tech! I feel like we had the best car here on Thursday, but it just didn’t work out.”

Davenport finished second after starting in 14th, turning it into a four-car battle for the lead during the final 10 laps of the race.

“No doubt another second, that was a lot of fun there. I don’t know what happened to Ricky there. That stinks that all of us couldn’t race it until the end. This place is just wild. It’s so slick and slimy, and nobody knows where you’re going. You just kind of hope and aim and point and then just mash the gas. You get sideways like a non-wing sprint car at some point because you don’t have any front tires, so you just aim for a little grip.”

Erb, who started 17th, passed Alberson on the final lap to take as he advanced 14 positions during the race.

“Being the first car out tonight to qualify was pretty easy. I wasn’t going to start out front; I just battled through; I won two B-Mains this week. The first night, I just kind of ran where we ran. The track was phenomenal tonight it was fun. It’s so hard to drive; it’s so technical. The lane moves so much, and I really enjoyed it. I am happy we have a really fast race car, and we are getting closer to winning.“

Thornton Goes Back-to-Back at All-Tech

LAKE CITY, FL (January 31, 2025) – Ricky Thornton Jr. took the lead on the 29th lap of the 50-lap Wieland Winter Nationals event Friday night at All-Tech Raceway, then dominated the rest of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event, winning $12,000.

For Thornton, this marked his second consecutive win and his fourth at the Florida Speedplant, bringing his total to 44 career victories in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing. Daulton Wilson continued his strong start to the season, finishing as the runner-up after a hard-fought battle with Spencer Hughes in the final laps. Hughes completed the Big River Steel Podium in third, having led a race-high 28 laps.

Completing the top five drivers were Hudson O’Neal and Devin Moran, who regained the points lead after three completed events.

Thornton, who won by over 8 seconds as the checkered flag fell, would lead the last 22 laps. “My crew was telling me to slow down, but the problem was I was so tight on entry that I really couldn’t slow down. I don’t know if we had 900 cautions, but I felt like we did, and with the rain coming, I was hoping to make it to halfway. I was terrible on the one restart. I felt like a ping-pong ball for a little bit there. I thought it was an awesome racetrack; you could run around the bottom, the middle, or even Hail Mary around the top. You could do whatever you wanted.”

Wilson, who ran third on Thursday night, came back to finish second after getting past Hughes with six laps to go, having been in the mix the entire race.

“Coming to the white there, the motor cut off. I flipped the ignition box, and it ran around there until coming to the checker, and then it died again. I was lucky it wasn’t 51 laps, I guess. We could run on the bottom and the top; it had a little bit of character, but you could race all over it. I tried to give it to Ricky tonight, but I think I just made him mad; he just said, " see you later, so good job to him.”

Hughes, who started outside the front row, led the first 28 circuits while seeking his first career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing win.

“It means a lot to be up here on the podium. We haven’t had the best go at Speedweeks so far. We finally felt like we had something working for us, and we qualified well, won a heat race, and led a little more than half of the race. Anytime you can get up front and race with these guys, it feels good, and it’s a big confidence booster. Hopefully, we can keep tuning on this thing and get a little better.”

The winner’s Bobby and Jessica Koehler-owned, Koehler Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Ultimate Towing and Recovery, Hoker Trucking, Elite Ready Mix, Capital Waste, Bilstein Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuels, Coltman Farms Racing, EMD Wraps, and Certified Inspection Service Company,, Inc.

Thornton Grabs Last Lap Victory at All-Tech....

LAKE CITY, FL (January 30, 2025) – Ricky Thornton Jr., the defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, seized the opportunity created by race leader Devin Moran’s flat tire on the final lap to triumph in the 40-lap Wieland Winternationals opener on Thursday night at All-Tech Raceway.

Moran, who led a race-high 34 laps, had a tire going down in the final two laps, which allowed Thornton to pass him on lap 39 as he went on to secure his first win of the season.

Max Blair edged past Daulton Wilson on the final lap, as they rounded out the Big River Steel podium, taking second and third place at the finish. Moran limped across the line in fourth, with Tyler Erb completing the top five drivers.

Moran jumped to the lead at the start of the race and maintained it for the first 12 laps until Shane Clanton passed him on lap 13. Clanton would then lead Moran for four more laps until Moran surged back ahead for the lead on lap 18. Clanton remained solid in second until a flat tire on lap 29 ended his chances for the win.

A lap 30 restart saw Thornton charge from fourth to second as he pressured Moran for the race lead. However, Thornton slipped back when he got too high in turn two on lap 33 and hit the wall. He recovered, and Moran’s flat tire opened the door for Thornton, who entered the All-Tech race as the only driver to have won more than once in the last seven Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing appearances at the track, allowing him to go to the winner’s circle for the third time there.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 43rd time in his career, and for the third time at All-Tech, Thornton claimed victory for the first time in 2025.

“I I had a good run on that last restart. I got under Daulton for second as we entered turn three; we bumped a little, but nothing too serious. Then I got to Devin, as I mentioned, and I knew his crew guy would move him up. I actually didn’t even see him [Moran] well enough to notice that he had a right-rear flat. We got to the top of turn three, and he was three-wheeling it. As we approached the white flag, I thought it really stinks for him, but I guess someone’s misfortune was good for us and we’ll take it it.”

Blair, who started 10th, surged to the front in the final circuits, claiming the runner-up spot. “I want to be up there where he [Thornton] is. We have been good since the end of last year. The track fit our driving style tonight. We’ll come back tomorrow and try to finish one spot better.”

Wilson, who led the most laps at Golden Isles two weeks ago, stayed in the top four for most of the race and came home in third. “We were good at Golden Isles and not so good last weekend. I thought I had a real shot at winning tonight.”

The winner’s Bobby and Jessica Koehler-owned Koehler Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Ultimate Towing and Recovery, Hoker Trucking, Coltman Farms Racing, Elite Ready Mix, Capital Waste, Bilstein Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuels, Certified Inspection Services Company, Inc., and EMD Wraps.

Jonathan Davenport, Donald McIntosh, Jimmy Owens, Tim McCreadie, and Hudson O’Neal completed the top ten.
