WORLD OF OUTLAWS WORLD FINALS

Davenport Goes Back-to-Back at World Finals, Pierce Crowned 2025 Champion

Emily Schwanke

CONCORD, NC (November 9, 2025) – Jonathan Davenport and Hudson O’Neal have been the men to beat throughout the 2025 edition of World of Outlaws World Finals, so it was only fitting that the finale came down to a one-on-one duel between them.

After a back-and-forth battle through traffic in the closing stages of the 50-lapper, Davenport came out on top for his second win in as many nights at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, and his third win of the year with the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision.

“We love coming to Charlotte,” Davenport said following his eighth Series victory at the facility, breaking a tie with Jimmy Owens for the most all-time. “This is almost a home race for me now. This is about the closest I get to race to the house. Just really excited, and man, that was a lot of fun.”

As soon as the green flag dropped, Davenport immediately began to set sail, and it looked like the field was in for their second beatdown from “Superman” in as many nights. But second-starting O’Neal never let him get too far out of reach, and once traffic came into play, the race was on.

With 32 laps on the board, Davenport got company entering Turn 3 when O’Neal stuck his nose to the inside. The Rumley No. 6 found some grip on the low lane and used it to get side-by-side with Davenport down the frontstretch, clearing him into Turn 1. However, a poor exit off Turn 2 allowed Davenport to get right back on O’Neal’s outside, but the lap car of Bobby Pierce impeded Davenport’s progress through the middle.

That forced Davenport to formulate a new plan, and he immediately switched to the low lane O’Neal had been running to power off Turn 2 and slide back in front. That stint out front only lasted one straightaway, as O’Neal quickly threw a short slider in Turn 2 to grab the lead back.

Time was running out for the No. 49 to get back in front, and with six laps left, a strong run off Turn 4 put Davenport in position to go to O’Neal’s inside and take the lead back. That turned out to be the winning move, as Davenport held on the rest of the way to take the checkers.

“I just kind of got stalled out behind those lap cars,” Davenport said. “I could hear somebody under me, and finally I saw Hudson there. He got by me, and I’m like, ‘Well, just try to stay calm here, try to stay patient with him if I could.’ I saw he was pushing it pretty hard through the lap cars and everything. He got tailed out a couple times off of four here, so I knew that got his tires hot. Gave me a great opportunity, and we were just playing chess through the lap cars there from then on.”

O’Neal held on for second, while Drake Troutman finished third for his third podium of the weekend to put an exclamation point on his MD3 Rookie of the Year campaign.

Pierce’s weekend at Charlotte didn’t go to plan with finishes of 12th, 16th and 23rd, but nevertheless, it ended with his coronation as the 2025 World of Outlaws champion. The Oakwood, IL native’s 11 wins at 10 different tracks were enough to claim his second championship in three years, making him the fifth multi-time champion in Series history alongside Billy Moyer, Darrell Lanigan, Josh Richards and Brandon Sheppard.

“It feels just awesome,” Pierce said. “We worked very hard this year, it’s been a long year. I think this weekend’s felt longer than the year has though. Can’t thank my team enough and everybody that supports me. Sponsors, fans, my family, crew, friends, just everybody that helps out. Just a long season, we got her done.”

The inaugural Coltman Farms Racing Cup was also awarded at World Finals to Nick Hoffman, who picked up two wins and nine top fives in the 14 Cup races over the course of the year. Hoffman took home $7,500 and a one-of-a-kind safe, while Pierce collected $2,500 for his runner-up efforts.

GOING OUT IN STYLE: Michael Kofoid Closes 2025 with World Finals Victory

CONCORD, NC (November 9, 2025) - A strong sendoff to the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season is always valuable.

It’s a long road that takes the country’s best Sprint Car teams to several states from coast-to-coast and dozens of racetracks for roughly 80 nights of action per year. It’s miles and miles on the road. It’s late nights and early mornings. Everyone wants to go into the off-season on a high note as next year will be here before you know it.

That’s exactly what Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and his Roth Motorsports crew were able to do Saturday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The Greatest Show on Dirt closed out its 48th season of action with a $25,000-to-win World of Outlaws World Finals main event. With big money on the line, it’s no surprise Kofoid brought his best.

This year’s highest earner in the sport lined up fourth for the 25-lapper and got to work right away. Kofoid climbed to third on the opening circuit, and four laps later the Penngrove, CA native made his way to second. On the 15th lap, misfortune for 2025 champion David Gravel gave Kofoid a gift. Gravel got into the Turn 1 fence while leading and went around. The resulting damage ended his evening.

That handed Kofoid the lead, but it wasn’t an easy drive to victory from there. The country’s winningest Sprint Car driver, Rico Abreu, clawed his way to second from seventh in the latter stages. Abreu threw a couple slide jobs at Kofoid on restarts but couldn’t quite clear. Kofoid did what he needed to do in traffic late and got the job done to close out the campaign.

“I felt like we were catching David,” Kofoid said of before Gravel’s crash. “It would’ve been nice to race for it. I don’t know what happened. It’s just a bummer for him. I felt like we were getting closer, and it maybe could’ve been a good race. I’m just really happy to be standing up here. It’s not easy winning in Charlotte. It’s not easy having speed in Charlotte. I owe it all to Dylan (Buswell), Nate (Knotts), and Gage (Tyra). Happy to have Todd Ventura here. He does a really good job running our team for us. To do this in front of a packed house is really cool.”

The win put the punctuation on a spectacular sophomore season for Kofoid as he topped a dozen World of Outlaws races with the Roth crew. That’s five more than the 23-year-old bagged during his rookie year in 2024. The 22nd overall of his career breaks a tie with Tim Kaeding and Rico Abreu to make him the fifth winningest Californian in Series history.

Rico Abreu took the runner-up spot to finalize a fantastic World Finals week. The St. Helena, CA native grabbed a Thursday victory and a pair of seconds. He wraps up the year with 10 podiums in 17 tries with the World of Outlaws.

“Definitely narrower surface, harder to get going,” Abreu said. “We just kept working to get our car to feel better for me. The more we got out there the better I was able to get it to sit in the rear tires and drive forward. I’m just really fortunate to be racing with really good guys and just a good way to cap off the year there.”

Brent Marks charged from ninth to third to round out the podium. The “Myerstown Missile” had speed all week and wrapped it up with his best World of Outlaws finish of the year.

“The track tonight was actually pretty tricky,” Marks said. “We got a pretty big curb that we could race against, but you had to be careful against it because it would really suck you in and get you tight. It was a little bit more tricky than the last two nights. But overall, with the rain that we had, I felt like the track was really nice. I was kind of hoping they could get the infield tires in another half a lane, and I think if that would’ve happened, we could’ve had two lanes that would’ve been absolutely awesome. We had a lot of speed on Thursday and a lot of speed last night.”

Even though Gravel’s crash ended his night early, he still got to celebrate as he and Big Game Motorsports were officially crowned the 2025 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champions. Gravel becomes only the sixth driver ever to claim two titles in a row. Gravel and team members Cody Jacobs (crew chief), Pete Stephens (car chief), and Zach Patterson (tire specialist), put together a masterful campaign with the Tod Quiring-owned car consisting of 17 wins, 40 podiums, 56 top fives, and 64 top 10s.

“What a season,” Gravel said. “I’m just really proud of my guys. I feel really bad for them tonight with what happened, but it doesn’t put a black eye on your whole season. It’s been such a good year. I just can’t believe how consistent we were all season. These guys produced every night, and I can’t thank them enough.”

Spencer Bayston and Corey Day completed the top five.

Logan Schuchart earned his Series-high ninth KSE Racing Products Hard Charger of the year with a drive from 23rd to seventh.

Heat Races belonged to David Gravel (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Rico Abreu (Real American Beer Heat Two), Buddy Kofoid (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Spencer Bayston (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to David Gravel.

Gravel also topped the Toyota Dash.

Justin Peck won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Emerson Axsom.

WALK-OFF WIN: Mat Williamson Closes 2025 Season With World Finals Victory
It's the St. Catharines, ON driver's 38th Super DIRTcar Series triumph

Joe Grabianowski

CONCORD, NC (November 8, 2025) – Mat Williamson had one goal when he arrived at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Saturday. Win the season finale.

The 2025 Super DIRTcar Series champion accomplished that goal on Saturday night, passing Alex Yankowski on Lap 28 to earn his fifth World of Outlaws World Finals victory.

With the title already clinched, Saturday’s win was a feat he wanted for his team to end the season on a high note.

“To be able to put a show on at the end was what I wanted to do for these fans,” Williamson said. “Hats off to my guys. It’s really tough to win these races. But to win on Saturday night and finish with the championship is unbelievable.”

Felix Roy, the SRI Performance and Stock Car Steel Pole Award Winner, led the field to the green in the 40-lap finale, aiming for his first Super DIRTcar Series victory. The Napierville, QC driver held off challenges from Alex Yankowski for the first 10 laps with ease. But when he reached the tail of the field, his chances at a victory slipped away.

As Roy drove off Turn 4 on Lap 17, he hooked his front bumper on Louden Reimert’s rear bumper while trying to put him a lap down. That sent the two cars spinning down the frontstretch and knocked Roy out of contention for the win, giving the lead to Yankowski.

When the race resumed, Yankowski grabbed the advantage over Tim Fuller, while Williamson and Darren Smith battled for third behind them. Williamson and Smith traded third for the next six laps until a red flag came out for Matt Caprara, who flipped in Turn 4 on Lap 23.

Williamson was in fourth at that point, which put him on the outside lane for the first time on a restart. That’s the moment in the race where Williamson started his charge toward the front.

When the green came back out, Williamson quickly cleared Smith for third and put his Buzz Chew Racing No. 88 on the outside lane.

It wasn’t long before Williamson’s momentum brought his Bicknell Chassis to Fuller’s back bumper, giving him a chance to wrestle second away. He swung to the outside of the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Famer on Lap 25 and took over the runner-up position as they exited Turn 2.

Then, he set his sights on Yankowski for the lead. Entering Turn 3 on Lap 28, Williamson dove underneath the No. 84Y for the lead and slid his car in front of Yankowski’s nose in the middle of the corner. Yankowski tried the crossover move to regain the lead in Turn 4,1 but couldn’t get the momentum he needed to make the pass.

From there, Williamson cruised to the $15,000 win—his 38th Series triumph. The win brings him within one victory of Bob McCreadie for seventh on the Series all-time wins list.

While in Victory Lane, the three-time Series champ said the outside lane was vital to earning his fifth Series win of the season.

“When Smith went back by me, I really wanted the caution,” Williamson said. “But, in those situations, you never know when they’re going to come. You don’t know if it’s going to come in 15 laps or five. Thankfully, it came right away, and I was able to get that outside on the restart and get by Tim.

“I was on Alex, and he kept sliding up in (Turn 2), and I figured my only shot was sliding him across the racetrack.”

Yankowski crossed the line second, finishing off his 2025 season with a podium. With his 17th top five, the Covington Township, PA driver earned second in the Series standings.

“We had control of the race and felt really good,” Yankowski said. “But the 88 has been lights out here the last couple of months. We’re definitely bummed, but we’re going to go to work.

“We got second in points, which is great. It’s a good chunk of change. But chasing that 88 is definitely going to give me some energy in the wintertime.”

Jack Lehner rounded out the podium, matching his best career Series finish. The Saratoga Springs, NY driver said the finish was a huge positive at a track he’s struggled at.

“This track has always been a bit of a thorn in my side,” Lehner said. “We just never seem to run all that good here and never seem to figure it out. And some of that comes from me as a driver.

“We had a really good racecar all week long, and I screwed some things up in Qualifying that set us back on the first night. The second night, we made some changes we shouldn’t have made. And that kind of put it all together for tonight. It feels really good to run where it feels like we should be running.”

Darren Smith finished fourth, and Ryan Godown crossed the line fifth.

UP NEXT: The Super DIRTcar Series kicks off its 2026 season with the chase for the “Big Gator” trophy at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL, on Feb. 11-14, as part of Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals.

CHARLOTTE STEAL: David Gravel Sneaks by Rico Abreu to Win Friday of World Finals

Gravel visits Victory Lane a day after clinching another World of Outlaws championship

Tyler Carr

CONCORD, NC (November 7, 2025) -

David Gravel might’ve secured his second straight World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series title on Thursday, but that doesn’t mean he’s cruising to the finish line.

Complacency isn’t what leads to two championships in a row with The Greatest Show on Dirt. Winners want to win. And winners is exactly what Gravel and the Big Game Motorsports team are.

A runner-up on Thursday’s World of Outlaws World Finals opener heightened the hunger for a trip to Victory Lane. It was Rico Abreu who held Gravel off, and he got his chance at redemption just one night later.

On Friday night, Abreu took the lead from Brent Marks on a late restart as Gravel surged from fourth to second. Then Gravel chipped away at Abreu’s advantage as the laps waned. The Rico Abreu Racing No. 24 got slightly held up coming to the white flag, and Gravel capitalized. He shot to the inside of Abreu and slid ahead. Abreu tried a slider to regain the top spot in Turns 1 and 2 but didn’t have enough. Gravel pulled away and took the checkered flag at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“Just being back a couple rows and getting to pace some guys and see what works and what doesn’t,” Gravel explained of what helped lead him to victory. “I felt like the bottom of (Turns) 1 and 2 wasn’t very good but in (Turns) 3 and 4 I felt pretty good. I wasn’t having good exit speed but was really gaining to the center. I just kept working it. I changed my entry a lot of times there in (Turns) 3 and 4 at the end. The more I got in the brown, the better and more I gained on him (Abreu). He definitely started hanging for sure. He was struggling there in (Turns) 1 and 2. I got faster than him in the cushion, and he was definitely hanging on. It’s good to get a win.”

The victory gave Gravel 17 in 2025 with the World of Outlaws, moving him one away from equaling his personal best mark for one season. It’s the 120th of his career, and he’s two from tying Danny Lasoski for sixth all-time. Eight of those have come at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. That’s just one behind Williams Grove Speedway for the winningest facility on his résumé.

Rico Abreu came home with the runner-up spot, narrowly missing out on two triumphs in a row. The St. Helena, CA native made one slip in traffic that he thought may have been the difference. A win and a second will still line him up on the pole of a Heat Race for Saturday’s season finale.

“I’ve got to watch to see where the 2 car was making ground,” Abreu said. “I felt like on lower air pressure I was really good firing off. Then we caught traffic, and I was trying to watch and judge where the traffic was going. The 17 just kind of moved right up in front of me, and I had to make a last minute decision. You just kill your momentum when you make big, altering movements like that. I think looking back on it I was really aggressive in the beginning of the race on my tires. I used a lot of the left rear tire and could feel it grinding.”

Donny Schatz drove from 10th to third for a much-needed encouraging finish aboard the Sides Motorsports No. 15. The 10-time Series champion has faced some struggles over the last several months, but Friday turned the tides as he collected his first podium since early August at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park.

“We found something to get the motor running in that Heat Race there,” Schatz said. “I don’t know if we got something in the fuel, but it kind of plugged the nozzles. We made up that ground in the Heat Race, which is huge. When you get inside the top 10, you can go race. We’ve run good around here in the past. I could kind of float the middle there after the restarts for a couple laps then you had to get up and go. I just couldn’t finish the corner quite right. I watched David, and he was kind of in the line I wanted to be, so I had to be off his right rear a little bit. It got my car a little upset, but we’ll take it.”

Chase Randall and Spencer Bayston completed the top five.

Carson Macedo took the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 from 25th to eighth to bag the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Heat Races belonged to Brent Marks (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Rico Abreu (Real American Beer Heat Two), David Gravel (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Garet Williamson (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Rico Abreu.

Brent Marks topped the Toyota Dash.

Justin Peck won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Garet Williamson.

THE DREAM CONTINUES: Alex Payne Cruises to First World Finals Victory at Charlotte
Mat Williamson finishes second, mathematically secures 2025 Series title

Joe Grabianowski

CONCORD, NC (November 8, 2025) – Alex Payne’s magical run down the stretch in 2025 continued Friday night, as he earned a win on one of racing’s biggest stages.

The Hopewell, NY driver led all 30 laps to score his first World of Outlaws World Finals victory at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, and his second five-figure payday in the past week.

“I can get used to this,” Payne said. “We’ve had a really good car the last couple of weeks. Two different cars, really. Georgetown and here were two different cars. But when you got a package that rolls good, it just rolls good, I guess.

“The biggest thing is we’re having fun. That’s what’s making this season a lot different. We’ve had good runs in the past, but to put all of our heads together and have fun, it’s just a dream.”

Mat Williamson chased Payne to a second-place finish, which mathematically secured his third Super DIRTcar Series championship, which will be officially celebrated on Saturday.

Payne, the SRI Performance and Stock Car Steel Pole Award winner, led the field to the green in the $10,000-to-win battle, outdueling Erick Rudolph for the lead in Turns 1 and 2.

However, the race was red-flagged on the opening lap after Tyler Siri flipped in Turn 3, with another car colliding with him as he landed.

After the incident, he was alert and talking to safety officials. He was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

When the race resumed, Payne drove away from Rudolph again through Turns 1 and 2 and quickly gained separation from the No. 25. That lead was short-lived though, as back-to-back cautions slowed the field on Lap 4.

On the next restart, Rudolph couldn’t match Payne’s speed as they raced down the frontstretch, allowing the “Slide Job Express” to keep his momentum out front. That distance only grew as the race went on, as Payne got out to over a six-second lead toward the end of the race.

Behind Payne, Williamson moved through the field using different lanes. Using the outside, he gained speed through the corner before switching to the bottom as he raced down the backstretch. That strategy powered him past Felix Roy for third on Lap 13 and by Rudolph for second on Lap 18.

When he moved into second, Williamson’s chase for the lead began, aiming for his fifth World Finals victory. However, he was still six seconds behind Payne. The St. Catharines, ON driver cut the distance in half over the next 12 laps, but it wasn’t enough to catch Payne, who cruised to his fourth career Super DIRTcar Series win.

While Payne dominated the 30-lap race, he said he was worried at the beginning because he hates starting on the pole.

“I’ve always hated it,” Payne said. “I’ll probably never get used to it. It’s just tough. You might have the best car, and you might go on to win like we did. Or you might have the worst car. You just never know where your speed is or where the line is.

“Tonight, I needed the clean air, and first was the best spot. I’m really thankful for that.”

With his win, Payne moved to within 28 points of Alex Yankowski for second in the Series standings, after Yankowski crossed the line in 15th.

Williamson drove from sixth to second in the 30-lap Feature to earn his fifth straight Series top five, and 10th top five in his last 11 starts. “Money Mat” said he ran a higher line than he’d usually run at Charlotte, knowing he didn’t have to worry about points once the race started.

“We did the same thing we did last night, we just picked the harder tire tonight, and it seemed to pay off,” Williamson said. “I would’ve liked a yellow, but I don’t know if I would’ve got him anyway. We were doing the same things in Turns 1 and 2.

“It’s fun to just come down here and race and not worry about points.”

Tim Fuller crossed the line third after starting eighth. It’s the Edwards, NY driver’s second straight top five this week, on a track he enjoyed racing on.

“I had a 300 (Hoosier Tire) on the left rear,” Fuller said. “I knew it wasn’t the right tire, but I could get down in the brown. All those guys were bellyaching that their 400s were bad, and I said just hang on, it’ll be ok. That long green really made their 400s go, and I just kind of stayed ok.

“Any time you can come down here and keep getting top fives on the biggest stage, it’s cool.”

Rudolph scored his third consecutive top five with a fourth-place finish, and Roy rounded out the top five.

Davenport Dominates Friday at Charlotte for Seventh World Finals Victory

Emily Schwanke

CONCORD, NC (November 7, 2025) – The list of World of Outlaws World Finals winners with the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision is a who’s who of the sport’s best, and Jonathan Davenport has cemented his place at the top of that list.

“Superman” led wire-to-wire in Friday night’s Feature at The Dirt Track at Charlotte for his seventh victory in the event, tying Jimmy Owens for the most all-time in a Late Model.

“I would have never believed it,” Davenport said. “From my first win here back in a Crate car, to my first win here in a Super with Barry Wright here at the World of Outlaws finale here at the World Finals. Man, it’s just been an awesome ride. Just to have my name up there with Scott [Bloomquist], Jimmy [Owens], Chris [Madden], all the greats that’s been around here, it surely is special.”

A broken rear end may have derailed Davenport’s efforts on Thursday night, but aside from that mishap, the No. 49 has been the car to beat throughout the first three nights of World Finals. The week started with two top-five Qualifying efforts on Wednesday, which he translated into a Heat Race victory to start the program on Friday. A lucky Redraw saw Davenport claim the Bilstein Pole Award, and it was game on from there once the green flag dropped in the Feature.

Davenport rolled the middle through the first corner to clear second-starting Drake Troutman, and grew his margin to nearly two seconds in the first six laps before traffic came into play. That allowed the 20-year-old to trim the gap down to 0.6 seconds 13 laps in, with 22 circuits left to find a way around Davenport.

Troutman could match Davenport’s pace in the middle stages of the race, but always had at least one lap car between himself and the leader holding him back. Davenport eventually found enough momentum on the high side to start pulling away, and before Troutman knew it, he was more than two seconds shy of victory at the checkered flag.

The Lance Landers Motorsports team knew they had a car capable of laying down a commanding performance from the moment they unloaded on Wednesday, and Friday’s showing was all about overcoming Thursday’s misfortune and proving it to the rest of the Late Model world.

“We could finally see how good our car actually was once we got in clean air,” Davenport said. “My guys gave me one hell of a race car again. They went through this thing and had to change a bunch of parts, just for precautionary measures. Things go wrong, and then that accumulates to everything else going wrong.”

The other two steps on the podium were occupied by the same two men as on Thursday night, but in the opposite order. Troutman held on for second to earn his third podium at Charlotte in two years, and believes he’s still got more in the tank with one more chance on Saturday to grab his second World of Outlaws win of the year.

“We were off balance a little bit there, but JD was really good,” Troutman said. “We’ve just got to make the right adjustments tomorrow. Everything’s so close, and there’s a lot of good cars here, so just happy to be up here.”

Sheppard backed up his Thursday runner-up with a third-place run on Friday, putting him in the top three on back-to-back occasions at Charlotte for the first time since 2021.

“JD was just getting through those lap cars good, and Drake did a good job also, and we were just trying to keep pace as good as we could,” Sheppard said. “At the end, I felt like we were coming pretty good. So hopefully tomorrow night, being the last Feature, the track will be kind of like this and we’ll have something to work off of.”

Tyler Erb finished fourth to tie his Charlotte career best from 2021, while Thursday’s winner, Hudson O’Neal, rounded out the top five.

RICO RULES: Abreu Dominates World Finals Opener, David Gravel Clinches Title

Rico Abreu secures his first Charlotte victory while Daivd Gravel wraps up a second straight World of Outlaws championship with a runner-up

Tyler Carr

CONCORD, NC (November 6, 2025) - Chalk up another one for Rico Abreu.

It’s been a dream season for the St. Helena, CA native, and he’s got no intentions of letting his foot off the gas as 2025 winds down.

Abreu entered World of Outlaws World Finals week with a nation-leading 20 Sprint Car victories this year. One thing lacking from his résumé was a win at North Carolina’s The Dirt Track at Charlotte with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars. He’d been close with a trio of runner-ups including one in his most recent appearance, but he doesn’t have to be the bridesmaid anymore.

World Finals racing opened on Thursday, and Abreu started on the pole for the 25-lapper and put together the drive he needed to finally secure a Charlotte score. David Gravel gave him a brief challenge, taking a peek underneath late, but Abreu got up on the wheel and drove away.

“You’ve really got to process the race pace,” Abreu said. “The engines were burning so much fuel. We were like a gallon a lap in the Dash there. We run a 30-gallon tank, so you’ve just got be be really tight on the fuel valve. I was really aggressive on my brakes trying to pick the idle up, keep my shocks warmed up, and then I had one of the best drivers in the country racing right beside me. I just wanted to set a really fast pace there after the fuel stop knowing we had a little extra fuel there to get to the end. It’s awesome to get to race in front of the best fans in the world.”

Abreu’s win total this year climbed to 21, and four of them have come with The Greatest Show on Dirt in only 15 tries. His 21st checkered flag of the season is also his 21st career World of Outlaws victory. Charlotte becomes the 13th different track where he’s won with the Series.

David Gravel held on for the runner-up spot aboard the Big Game Motorsports No. 2. He took a shot at Abreu for the top spot but just couldn’t quite sneak by for the win. On the bright side, his 39th podium of the season was enough to mathematically clinch his second consecutive World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car title, becoming only the sixth driver ever to do so.

“It feels really good,” Gravel said. “It’s been a long year. We’ve just been so consistently fast Qualifying and putting ourselves on the front row of Heat Races. Just proud of all my guys. They give me a fast car every single night. We went out to try to win this race tonight, but Rico was pretty good. I feel like it was hard to pass. Man, we had him there for a second. I wish I moved up to the top and didn’t try to run the bottom so many corners in a row but hats off to those guys. They’ve had a great season.”

The final step of the podium was occupied by Corey Day who gave the fans a show. After winning the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown, the Clovis, CA competitor ripped the Jason Meyers Racing No. 14 all the way from 21st to third in his Charlotte debut.

“I rolled out there and saw it was curbed up on the wall, so I was happy to see that,” Day said. “I hate that we made it so difficult on ourselves Qualifying bad and having to start all the way back there. We had a really good car. We’re making gains on it, and I think this will set me up good for Saturday as long as I have an okay tomorrow. We’ll keep working on it.”

Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and Parker Price-Miller completed the top five.

Logan Schuchart marched the Shark Racing No. 1S from 25th to sixth to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Heat Races belonged to Sye Lynch (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Danny Sams III (Real American Beer Heat Two), Buddy Kofoid (WIX Filters Heat Three), and David Gravel (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Buddy Kofoid.

Rico Abreu topped the Toyota Dash.

Corey Day won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Zach Hampton.

UP NEXT: The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will take on another $15,000-to-win World Finals program on Friday, Nov. 7 before the $25,000-to-win/$1,750-to-start season finale at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Saturday, Nov. 8. For tickets, CLICK HERE.

O'Neal Steals Thursday World Finals Victory From Sheppard in Final Corner

Emily Schwanke

CONCORD, NC (November 6, 2025) – With half a lap to go in the first Feature of World of Outlaws World FinalsBrandon Sheppard had the checkered flag in sight. Then Hudson O’Neal happened.

The driver of the Rumley No. 6 took the white flag more than 0.6 seconds behind the Rocket1 Racing machine, but O’Neal wasn’t ready to settle for second. The Martinsville, IN native got a blistering run through Turns 1 and 2 on the final lap to give himself a chance in the last corner.

O’Neal dove to the bottom while Sheppard slid up the track, and the two found themselves side-by-side coming to the line. At the flag stand, it was O’Neal out front by a tenth of a second claiming his third victory with the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision.

“I didn’t really think I had a shot,” O’Neal said. “I knew we were catching lap traffic, and I saw [Sheppard] try and just stay committed out there to that middle. I knew the air was so bad out there and they were blowing all that stuff across, and I felt it affecting my race car too. I thought the best shot I had was just to stay down, maybe he’ll slip and I can get a run, and that’s exactly what happened.”

The 35-lap Feature started with Nick Hoffman as the man to beat, as he cleared Bilstein Pole Award winner Brandon Overton on the start and commanded the first 13 laps. But behind him, Sheppard was on a mission in the first half of the race, getting around Overton on Lap 9 and cutting a second off his deficit to Hoffman in only two laps. “The Thrill From Mooresville” quickly had company up front, and Sheppard found enough grip on the bottom to power into the lead.

It wasn’t long before Overton kicked the No. 76 back into high gear, as he briefly made his own bid for the lead with under 20 to go. He never made a move stick though, and let Hoffman and Drake Troutman get around him to fall to fourth.

One more wrench was thrown at the field with 11 laps remaining, when Jonathan Davenport slowed in Turn 4 to bring out the caution. O’Neal was fifth at that point, but a strong restart moved him to third in one lap after the race went back green. He then made quick work of Hoffman to grab second with nine laps left to catch the reigning World of Outlaws champion.

On the final circuit, 22 laps after he ripped the lower edge of the track into the lead, Sheppard had the same line used against him as O’Neal squeaked past his former ride to earn his first Charlotte victory.

“Most of the race, I didn’t think I had the race car to win it,” O’Neal said. “I found a little bit in that bottom, and it was actually pretty good down [in Turns 1 and 2] around the cushion too. The longer the race went, the better I got.”

On the other side of the battle, Sheppard did everything he could to keep the door shut against a Hail Mary attempt, but O’Neal used the traffic to his advantage in making the winning move.

“I knew there was a chance there,” Sheppard said. “I didn’t feel very good out in the middle, but all the lappers ran the bottom. The last lap, I went into three and I thought, ‘Well, I guess my best chance here is to just hug alongside of Tristan [Chamberlain] there.’ I got to about the middle of the corner and kind of washed out. I was doing that every lap in three and four coming out of four. I knew I needed to be on the bottom, but all the lap cars were down there.”

One year after standing on a World of Outlaws podium for the first time at Charlotte, Troutman found himself back there again with his third-place run, clinching the MD3 Rookie of the Year Award in the process.

“It’s really humbling to be able to cap that deal off,” Troutman said. “Especially over Ethan [Dotson], he’s been really tough all year long too, and he’s one of my best friends. Happy to be able to top that deal off, and maybe by the end of the weekend, we can get a couple spots better in points.”

Hoffman crossed the line fourth for his best World of Outlaws finish at Charlotte, while Chris Madden rounded out the top five.

QUEEN CITY SIX: Matt Sheppard Earns Record Sixth Super DIRTcar Series World Finals Victory
Mat Williamson extends championship lead to 115 points with third-place finish

Joe Grabianowski

CONCORD, NC (November 6, 2025) – While an 11th Super DIRTcar Series title isn’t in the cards for Matt Sheppard, he still earned a piece of history Thursday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

The Savannah, NY driver led all 30 laps to score his record-sixth Series Feature win at the World of Outlaws World Finals, breaking a tie with Brett Hearn for the most Big Block wins at the North Carolina track.

“Super Matt” called his first World Finals win since 2023 awesome and said everything went his way.

“This is the culmination of the season,” Sheppard said. “It’s the biggest crowds and the most diverse crowds we race in front of. A lot of fans from other walks of life, like the Late Models and the Sprint Cars, get to see us put on a show. Anytime you can win here is always special.”

Alex Yankowski, the SRI Performance and Stock Car Steel Pole Award winner, led the field to the green in the 30-lap Feature. However, the race’s first caution flew immediately as Tim Sears Jr. spun in Turn 2.

When the race resumed, Sheppard carried a ton of speed on the inside lane and slid in front of Yankowski, taking the lead away from “Kid Rocket” as they raced down the backstretch. While Sheppard pulled away, he couldn’t get in a rhythm as a multitude of cautions slowed the race in its 30-lap distance.

Yankowski, who ran second for most of the race, tried everything to get by Sheppard on those restarts, but the Covington Township, PA driver couldn’t get the momentum he needed to pass the No. 9S. That included a Lap 15 restart, where Yankowski left the bottom open for Mat Williamson, who wrestled second away in Turn 1.

But like Yankowski’s lead at the beginning of the race, Williamson’s time in second was also short-lived. After another caution on Lap 17, Yankowski regained second on the next restart when he stormed underneath Williamson to grab the position in Turn 3.

Yankowski got one more chance at Sheppard when the caution flew for the last time on Lap 26 for Chris Curtis, setting him up on the outside of Sheppard again. When the green came back out, Yankowski switched lanes, hoping to surprise Sheppard on the inside. However, Alex Payne was already side-by-side with Yankowski when they entered Turn 1. Payne used that momentum to drive ahead of Yankowski and take second away on Lap 27.

That was as close as Payne would get to the lead, though, as Sheppard went on to score the $10,000 prize and his 103rd Super DIRTcar Series victory. Thursday’s win was also his sixth Series win of 2025, breaking a tie with Stewart Friesen for the most wins this season.

Despite how good his car was throughout the night, Sheppard said the cautions benefited him.

“I just felt like I could really enter hard and carry a lot of speed,” Sheppard said. “It looked like traffic was going to be a handful. I didn’t want to keep seeing the restarts because that’s an opportunity to get beat to Turn 1, but at the same time, I didn’t really want to get into lap traffic either.

“It was one of them deals where everything just worked out for us, and I’m really proud of this team.”

Payne crossed the line second, earning his fourth consecutive podium finish and third straight top-two result. The Hopewell, NY driver said he just bided his time to get to the front.

“I think where we finished was probably where our car was tonight,” Payne said. “Normally, there’s a bit of a berm on the top, but it just wasn’t quite there enough tonight. I tried to make a couple of things work, but then I just tried to smarten up and make some clean passes. At that point, it’s tough to make up any major ground. You’re kind of just where you’re at.”

Defending Series champion Mat Williamson crossed the line third, earning his fourth consecutive top five and ninth top five in his last 10 races. The St. Catharines, ON driver said he anticipated something different from the track.

“I thought it was going to (rubber) on the bottom,” Williamson said. “I was trying to catch Matt, as good as he was off the bottom, I figured if it started to latch, I’d be able to roll right by him. But the track was great. The track was really good all night.

“Clean air just means so much here. Tomorrow, we’ll have a little bit more racetrack to work with, so we’ll see what happens.”

With his third-place finish, Williamson extended his lead over Yankowski, who finished sixth, to 115 points entering Friday’s event. That moves him closer to mathematically securing his third Series championship.

Tim Fuller crossed the line fourth, and Erick Rudolph earned his second consecutive top five with a fifth-place finish.

UP NEXT: The Super DIRTcar Series returns to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, NC, for night three of the World of Outlaws World Finals on Friday, Nov. 7, for another 30-lap Feature paying $10,000-to-win.

Williamson Sweeps Billy Whittaker Cars and Trux Quick Time Awards at World Finals

Joe Grabianowski

CONCORD, NC (November 5, 2025) – With the 2025 Super DIRTcar Series championship within his grasp, Mat Williamson opened this year’s World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on a high note.

The St. Catharines, ON driver was the fastest overall in both Qualifying Sessions on Wednesday night and will start on the pole of his Heat Races on Thursday and Friday.

It’s “Money Mat’s” fifth and sixth Billy Whittaker Cars Quick Time Awards of the 2025 season, two Qualifying runs, he said, that were helped by returning to old notes.

“We went back to our notes from 2023,” Williamson said. “I thought we were better in 2023 than we have been ever. We unloaded with those notes, and obviously we were fast enough to set quick time.

“I didn’t lift on either lap (in the first session). Obviously, we got a really good car where I can carry speed into the corner. The first lap I ran on the cushion in (Turns) 3 and 4, and the second lap I actually ran lower, and that was my better one.”

After laying down a 15.979-second lap in the Thursday night session, Williamson backed it up about an hour later with a 16.047-second lap in the Friday night session. According to the defending Series champion, it sets him up to be in a good position on all three nights.

“I think anytime we’ve come down here and timed on Wednesday, we’ve always had one good night and one bad night,” Williamson said. “To be pole in both is going to mean a lot on Saturday night. It’s going to get a pretty good starting spot for Saturday if you run well on Thursday and Friday.”

Joining Williamson on the pole of the four Heat Races on Thursday are Matt Sheppard (Heat 1), Alex Payne (Heat 2), and Felix Roy (Heat 4).

Sheppard (Heat 4) and Payne (Heat 2) also earned pole positions for Friday night’s program along with Williamson. Logan Watt, who was the Quickest in Group B in the Friday night session, will start on the pole of Heat Race 3.

UP NEXT: The Super DIRTcar Series returns to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, NC, for night two of the World of Outlaws World Finals on Thursday, Nov. 6, for the first night of racing. Drivers will battle in a 30-lap Feature paying $10,000-to-win.

Davenport, Sheppard Top Qualifying Night at World Finals

CONCORD, NC (November 5, 2025) – The opening night of World of Outlaws World Finals saw the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision partake in a pair of Qualifying sessions, setting the lineups for Heat Race competition on Thursday and Friday.

Jonathan Davenport laid down the fastest lap in the first session of the night with a 14.909-second trip around The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Group B. That was just enough to steal the Simpson Quick Time Award from Nick Hoffman, who led the way in Group A with a 14.937.

Drake Troutman, Ryan Gustin, Brandon Sheppard and Hudson O’Neal will join Davenport and Hoffman as Heat Race polesitters on Thursday night. World of Outlaws points leader Bobby Pierce will come from the outside of the front row of Heat 5 as he looks to lock up his second Series championship.

Several regional heroes put themselves in position for a strong night, including North Carolina’s own Jamison McBride, who will start alongside Troutman on the front row of Heat 2 as he looks to start his first World of Outlaws Feature. Cedartown, GA’s Austin Smith also found plenty of speed, wheeling his No. 11S machine to the outside of Heat 6 alongside O’Neal.

The second session saw only one car dip into the 14-second bracket, and it was Sheppard laying down a 14.975-second lap in Group A. Chris Madden set the fastest time of Group B with a 15.149.

Dale McDowell, Tyler Erb, Dustin Sorensen and Jimmy Owens also earned the pole for the rest of Friday’s Heat Races. Plenty of World of Outlaws regulars made major gains between sessions, including Dennis Erb Jr., who went from 24th in his group in Thursday’s session to fifth in Friday’s, as well as Ethan Dotson, who timed in 11th in the first session and fourth in the second.

Action continues at World Finals with three full programs for the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-8. Get your tickets in advance by clicking here.

If you can't make it to the track, stream every lap live on DIRTVision.

AYING DOWN A LAP: Sye Lynch Steals the Show on World Finals Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying Night

CONCORD, NC (November 5, 2025) - Wednesday ignited on-track action as the World of Outlaws World Finals got underway at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Two sessions of Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying set the stage for World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Heat Races on Thursday-Friday, Nov. 6-7. The two complete racing programs will line up Heats for the $25,000-to-win/$1,750-to-start season finale on Saturday, Nov. 8.

The first session was led by Apollo, PA’s Sye Lynch. He took the Mosites-Lynch No. 42 around the 4/10 mile in 12.661 seconds for his third career Simpson Quick Time. That’ll line Lynch up on the pole of the first Heat Race for Thursday’s program. Rico Abreu, Ryan Timms, Danny Sams III, and Cory Eliason completed the top five in Flight A behind Lynch.

Flight B of the opening session was topped by Garet Williamson, who went out as the final car and still ripped a 12.763 in the Fischer Motorsports No. 23. David Gravel, who needs a finish of 21st or better on Thursday to clinch his second straight title, was second quickest. Buddy Kofoid was third, NASCAR Cup Series competitor Ty Gibbs timed in fourth, and Ashton Torgerson rounded out the top five.

The Qualifying session for Friday’s racing started out the same as the first with Sye Lynch leading the first Flight and claiming overall Simpson Quick Time honors with a 12.899 second lap. And just like the first session, Rico Abreu was a spot behind him. Brent Marks, Ryan Timms, and Emerson Axsom followed.

David Gravel led the way in Flight B, stopping the clock at a 13.015. Garet Williamson was second. Spencer Bayston, who is making his debut with Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing before their 2026 World of Outlaws campaign, timed in third. Cale Thomas and Ashton Torgerson completed the top five.

With Qualifying complete, the focus now shifts entirely to racing for the remainder of the week as the nation’s top Sprint Car drivers compete in the “Queen City” alongside the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision and the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds.

Jacob Denney Bookends Xtreme Outlaw Midget Championship with Finale Victory at Millbridge

Emily Schwanke

SALISBURY, NC (November 4, 2025) - Jacob Denney finished the 2025 Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota the way he started: at the top of his car, celebrating a win.

After clinching his first Series title at the Justin Arion Hauling Xtreme Outlaw World Championship presented by Glenn Styres Racing on Tuesday, the Galloway, OH driver took his victory lap with a triumph to cap off the season at Millbridge Speedway.

Brent Crews led the field to the green flag with Karter Sarff and Denney possessing spots inside the top three through the first 10 of the 35 laps around the Salisbury, NC track.

Similar to Monday night, Lap 12 saw a red flag after multiple cars were piled across the track, involving multiple leaders, with Crews being taken out of contention, Sarff making contact with Nick Hoffman, and Denney narrowly missing the accident. That avoidance rewarded Denney with the lead over Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports (KKM) teammate Cannon McIntosh and Key for the ensuing restart.

While building a one-second gap over McIntosh through the green flag run, Denney ran through a mix of lanes with each circuit - running a slider line at the helm until he kept the No. 67 JBL Audio Toyota to the cushion of the 1/7-mile when lapped traffic became a factor.

Denney managed to build a gap over the field to 1.3 seconds until McIntosh jumped over the berm in Turn 3 and came to a halt in Turn 4 - inadvertently involving Chase McDermand tipping onto McIntosh’s No. 71K.

Behind Denney, Sarff clawed his way back into the podium to give the Series champion a fight towards the final sprint to the finish. Denney kept Sarff behind him by 0.3 seconds as he drove towards his 11th win of the season.

“I made the joke when I knew I was ‘High Point’ guy, like ‘Imagine if I miss the wreck because I draw a six tonight, and I barely missed it,” Denney said. “It worked out well in our favor. Tonight was the night where we were close to being fast all night long, and I got to thank Kaleb (Wyrick). It’s a dream to sit in there and hold the foot to the floor, and Tanner and Grant help me have a great car. I really can’t thank all of them enough.”

Sarff finished the night in second place to complete a 12-place comeback after being involved in the Lap 12 accident.

“I’m sure it would have been a hell of a fight up there with Denney,” Sarff said. “He was just as good as us, if not, a tick better. We didn’t have much time to sort things out there, and honestly debated racing after the (accident) happened. But, I’m glad I stayed out, and it was pretty fun.”

Key finished his first season with the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets by posting a third-place finish to earn the 2025 Rookie of the Year honors.

“I’m happy with it,” Key said. “I really didn’t know what to expect coming into my first full year on a national Midget schedule. We had our ups and downs, but I’m proud of how it went, and I’m proud of the team.

“After last night, if you told me I’d run podium tonight, I wouldn’t have believed you because I felt like a fish out of water. This place is so different than anything I’ve ever been on and used to. I definitely wasn’t the best car tonight, but we hung on and let everyone else crash out, and we wound up here. Sometimes, you gotta do that, and I’m happy with how it turned out and finish the year like this.”

Karter Sarff Steals Opening Night Victory in Xtreme Outlaw World Championship at Millbridge

Emily Schwanke

SALISBURY, NC (November 3, 2025) - When you race at Millbridge Speedway, you need to use every inch of the 1/7-mile track to call yourself a winner.

Karter Sarff proved the notion to be true Monday night as he slid the Provisio No. 21K Toyota to the opening night win in the Justin Arion Hauling Xtreme Outlaw World Championship presented by Glenn Styres Racing.

The Mason City, IL driver began his work from ninth place in the 35-lap Feature as Series rookie Hayden Wise took the lead at the front over Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports (KKM) teammates Jacob Denney and Cannon McIntosh.

While Wise led comfortably through the first seven laps, Denney closed in on the No. 94 Toyota-powered LynK Chassis back bumper as they began to approach lap traffic.

On Lap 10, the Feature’s complexity changed when a massive accident in Turns 1-2 inadvertently collected Wise and Denney. With the accident taking both drivers out of contention for the win, McIntosh led the field to the restart over Trevor Cline and Ethan Mitchell.

Behind the three drivers, Sarff worked his way up to fourth place on the ensuing restart by using a mix of the high line and slide job maneuvers. Sarff passed Mitchell with a slide through Turns 3-4 on Lap 15 to enter the podium, then passed Cline for second with a successful crossover move through Turns 1-2 on Lap 20.

“The Shark” then chomped away at McIntosh’s lead with each lap to set himself up to throw a slide job for the win. His moment came on Lap 26 as he threw a slide job to take the lead in Turns 1-2, then McIntosh responded with a crossover in Turns 3-4 to retain the spot. The two exchanged passes until Sarff outgassed the No. 71K across the backstretch to gain full possession of the position.

Moments after Sarff officially led in the Feature, Mitchell flipped off the exit of Turn 4 to set up a two-lap dash to the finish. The “Land of Lincoln” native held McIntosh at bay from making a last-lap dive as he crossed the twin checkered flags to win the penultimate race of the Xtreme Outlaw Midget season.

“It was a wild race,” Sarff said. “Honestly, I didn’t feel good going into the Feature because at places like this, you gotta start up front to have a good chance. We just raced our way through there, cars kinda dipped and dived in my favor, and I was able to pick up places quick.

“Once I found the slider line, it was so much better than what Cannon was doing, running the top all the way around. Once we got by and cleared him, it was gonna be hard for him to pass me back with the slider line, so then I felt really, really good.”

McIntosh finished the night at Millbridge with a second-place result after he began the night with a flip in Smith Titanium Qualifying that forced him to charge through the field to win TJ Forged Heat 3.

“We’ve been here before where we get upside down and come back from it,” McIntosh said. “Through the adversity, we were on track to do it again, but we just weren’t good enough. Obviously, it was hard to see there once you get into traffic, and I’m just pacing myself, not really push the issue. All of a sudden, when you get slid, it’s just too late at that point, and you can’t really race back.”

Cline finished the night on the podium after entering the event as the most recent winner with Xtreme at Jacksonville Speedway.

“The visibility was kinda hard,” Cline said. “You just had to follow everybody, and if you went to slide somebody, you’d kill your momentum so much. And I was just worried about passing five other cars because I tried sliding Cannon for second, and I fell to fifth because I broke my momentum one time. I was just trying to hang on, and hopefully we’ll be good tomorrow.”

Entering the final night of the 2025 Xtreme Outlaw Midget season, Denney holds a 367-point gap over Gavin Miller as he charged back to 10th place to keep his streak of finishing top-10 in every race of the year.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Charlotte’s World Finals Set to Conclude 48th World of Outlaws Season

The Greatest Show on Dirt is ready for a four-night sendoff to 2025 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte

Trent Gower

CONCORD, NC (November 3, 2025) - The time has come. #AllDirtRoads have led to Charlotte.

After more than 60 races in 19 different states from coast to coast, along with a trip north of the border to Canada, the 2025 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season is ready to wrap up in the “Queen City.”

All eyes are firmly fixed on The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the World of Outlaws World Finals on Nov. 5-8. Four consecutive evenings of action kick off with Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying Night on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Two sessions of Qualifying will set Heat Race lineups for Thursday and Friday’s racing programs. Feature points accumulated from those two nights will line up Saturday’s Heats and set the stage for the $25,000-to-win/$1,750-to-start season finale.

The country’s top Sprint Car drivers will also be joined by the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision and Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds all three nights.

It’s a can’t-miss week for any dirt racing fan. The sport’s three premier Series for four straight nights to close out the year. World Finals week is here.

Let’s look at the week’s top storylines:

BACK-2-BACK: David Gravel cemented his name in the record books last year by becoming the 11th different World of Outlaws champion, and he appears poised to make history yet again.

Gravel and the Big Game Motorsports crew came out even stronger in 2025. They’ve compiled 16 wins, 38 podiums, 54 top fives, and 62 top 10s in 65 Feature starts. Gravel’s average finish is a stellar 3.89, which is on pace to be the best for a champion since Donny Schatz’s 3.40 in 2015. Securing a second straight championship would make the Watertown, CT native only the sixth driver ever to claim two in a row, joining a list of legends that features Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Donny Schatz, Jason Meyers, and Brad Sweet. Gravel’s advantage over Michael “Buddy” Kofoid sits at a comfortable 138 points.

Gravel’s record at Charlotte is stout. His seven World of Outlaws victories at “America’s Home for Racing” rank second behind only Donny Schatz’s tally of 14. He’s finished outside the top 10 just once in his last 15 tries at the 4/10 mile.

SOPHOMORE SENSATION: Michael “Buddy” Kofoid delivered perhaps the best Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year campaign in 2024, and there have been no signs of a sophomore slump in 2025.

He’s taken the Roth Motorsports No. 83 on 11 trips to Victory Lane this year, including banking a pair of six-figure paydays in one week at Huset’s Speedway in June. The Penngrove, CA driver’s 30 podiums and 5.38 average finish rank behind only Gravel. His efforts have him sitting second in points.

Kofoid would need a lot to go his way this week to have a shot at Gravel for the title, and he’s got a comfortable lead on Carson Macedo in the standings. So, this week is simply about putting the finishing touches on a remarkable second season. He bagged a pair of runner-ups at last year’s World Finals.

SETTLING SIXTH: Fans will want to keep an eye on Donny Schatz and Bill Balog all week as they battle it out for sixth in the standings. Balog, who was nearly 200 points behind Schatz at the start of September, has trimmed the gap to 48 markers.

History suggests Schatz should have the advantage. His 14 Charlotte wins are the most all-time and double the total of the second highest. The 10-time Series champion has also been plenty consistent in the “Queen City” with 53 top 10s in 67 tries.

Balog’s Charlotte experience is much less extensive. He’s totaled 18 nights of racing with a best result of fifth in 2021. It’s been a stout sophomore season for Balog as he’s collected a trio of victories and 36 top 10s.

QUEEN CITY SPEED: Outside of those already mentioned, a few more drivers among the 2025 World of Outlaws roster have flexed their muscles in the past at Charlotte.

Logan Schuchart stands out as a favorite to punctuate the campaign with a win or two. He’s topped four races at Charlotte, including a drive from 14th in 2019. The Shark Racing pilot sits fourth in points with an outside shot at surpassing Macedo for third.

And speaking of Carson Macedo, he’s no slouch at the North Carolina oval. He got his first victory there last year and has been in the top five in seven of his 10 tries since joining Jason Johnson Racing in 2021.

ROOKIE WAR WRAPS UP: World Finals will also signal an end to 2025’s highly competitive Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year battle.

Garet Williamson just about has the award in the bag. After Chris Windom led much of the beginning portion of the year, Williamson and the Fischer Motorsports team chipped away until finally taking over the top spot in August. Since then, Williamson hasn’t slowed as he’s built a 126-point advantage.

Windom and his Sides Motorsports crew now must fend off Cole Macedo if he wants to hold onto second in the rookie standings. The TwoC Racing driver has put together a late-season run at Windom that includes five top 10s in the last eight races as he’s narrowed the gap between the two to 24 points. Macedo has competed at Charlotte eight times before with a best result of fourth in 2022.

SAME FACES, NEW PLACES: Silly season got off to an early start, meaning World Finals will be the first chance for fans to see some competitors get acquainted with their new rides ahead of 2026.

Spencer Bayston joined forces with Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing for next year’s World of Outlaws campaign. Sheldon Haudenschild will finish out his tenure with the team this week, and they also plan to roll out a second car for Bayston. The Lebanon, IN native’s best Charlotte showing is fourth in 2018 aboard the Swindell SpeedLab No. 39.

With Brad Sweet scaling back to a part-time schedule next year, Locust Grove, OK’s Daison Pursley has been tapped as Kasey Kahne Racing’s primary pilot. The combination will debut at Charlotte, where Pursley peaked at ninth in three tries last year.

With Pursley heading to KKR, that left a void to be filled at Buch Motorsports. It was announced last week the Jacksonville, OR’s Tanner Holmes had been hired to do so, and they intend to make their first laps together at World Finals. Holmes’ only Charlotte experience came two years ago driving for Shark Racing.

FROM FAR AND WIDE: Expect to see a diverse field in the pit area this week as World Finals routinely attracts competitors from all over the country in addition to the full-time World of Outlaws roster.

2025 Knoxville Nationals champion Ryan Timms will be making the trip from Rapid City, SD with the Liebig Motorsports team. Timms debuted at Charlotte last year during World Finals and picked up a pair of top 10s highlighted by a fourth in the finale.

NASCAR Cup Series competitor Ty Gibbs has his World of Outlaws debut on the agenda this week. The grandson of Joe Gibbs has dabbled in Sprint Car racing this year and is ready for more laps at World Finals.

Corey Day plans to make his The Dirt Track at Charlotte debut this week aboard the Jason Meyers Racing No. 14. The 19-year-old has experience at the big track across the street, competing with the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the Roval a month ago.

Late Model star Ricky Thornton Jr. is set to add some more Sprint Car experience to his résumé. This year’s World 100 winner did double duty last year, jumping in an Indy Race Parts Sprint Car, and will do so again. He’s claimed a trio of World of Outlaws Late Model wins at Charlotte.

Other expected entries include Giovanni Scelzi (Fresno, CA), Emerson Axsom (Franklin, IN), Brent Marks (Myerstown, PA), and many more.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: World Finals Closes Out 2025 World of Outlaws Season With Four Nights at Charlotte

Emily Schwanke

CONCORD, NC (November 3, 2025) – More than nine months after the journey began at Volusia Speedway Park in January, the final destination is on the horizon.

As it has every year since 2007, the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision season will come to an end at The Dirt Track at Charlotte as part of World of Outlaws World Finals (Wednesday-Saturday, Nov. 5-8). The event is once again set to attract one of the largest and toughest fields of Late Models found anywhere to do battle over four nights in front of one of the largest crowds in dirt track racing.

Action gets underway on Wednesday with Hot Laps and Qualifying for both the Thursday and Friday programs. The following two nights will both include full $15,000-to-win programs, with drivers earning points that will place them into a Dash or Last Chance Showdown on Saturday. Those races will set the lineup for the season finale, which goes 50 laps for $25,000 to cap off the weekend.

The Late Models will be joined on all four nights by the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and the Super DIRTcar Series to round out the trio of the top divisions on dirt.

Here are the top storylines entering the weekend:

ON THE DOORSTEP: With a 124-point cushion entering the weekend, Bobby Pierce already has one arm around his second World of Outlaws championship trophy.

It’s been another season of excellence for the “Smooth Operator,” with his 11 wins so far making him the winningest driver on tour for the third-straight season. One of the Midwest’s brightest stars has been a force to be reckoned with across the nation for several years, but Pierce expanded his reign of terror further than ever in 2025. His 11 victories have come at 10 different tracks – eight of them were tracks he had never previously won at in World of Outlaws action, and three were ones he had never been to before.

However, the last two months haven’t brought the level of success that the dirt Late Model world has come to expect out of Pierce over the last three years. Since sweeping the weekend at Arrowhead Speedway in August, Pierce has gone winless in his last six Series starts. The Dirt Track at Charlotte could be the place for Pierce to end the season on top though, as he won the Friday portion of World Finals last year and was running in the top five on Saturday until a flat tire took him out of contention.

ONE FINAL PUSH: While Pierce and Nick Hoffman are on their way to sewing up the top two spots in the standings, several other points battles through the field are razor-thin with hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line.

After scoring a career-high $100,000 payday at Cedar Lake Speedway’s USA NationalsRyan Gustin found himself comfortably in the the third spot with Tim McCreadie trailing by more than 120 points. Since then, “T-Mac” has made Gustin anything but comfortable.

A stretch of eight top 10s in nine starts, capped off by back-to-back wins at 81 Speedway and Boothill Speedway trimmed McCreadie’s triple-digit deficit down to only four points. Gustin was in serious need of a momentum shift, and he got it by winning the final night of the Bayou Classic on the same night McCreadie failed to finish to expand his lead back to 50.

McCreadie already has some Charlotte history to his credit – he’s the only driver to have won at the track in more than one Series, with one victory in a Late Model and three in a Big Block Modified. Meanwhile, Gustin is still searching for his first Charlotte top 10 in his seventh year competing at World Finals.

ROOKIE ROUNDUP: Three World of Outlaws freshmen are set to complete their first full tour across the country this weekend.

Drake Troutman has become the runaway leader in the MD3 Rookie of the Year Award battle by 166 points, enough for seventh in the overall standings. The highlight of his debut season with Team22 Motorsports came in June at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park, where he picked up his first World of Outlaws victory. Troutman also won twice with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals this year in addition to a $100,000 Modified win at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in May. Keep an eye on the No. 22* at Charlotte, as Troutman finished second to Ricky Thornton Jr. on Thursday night last year.

Ethan Dotson also found his way to Victory Lane early in his rookie campaign on Illini 100 weekend at Farmer City Raceway. The ASD Motorsports team went through their share of growing pains over the summer, but made a late-season surge with a stretch of three top fives and five top 10s over six races to hold onto 10th in the standings entering World Finals.

The final member of the rookie trio, Jake Timm, is set to make his Charlotte debut this weekend. The Winona, MN native has been making steady improvements all year long, scoring a best finish of fifth in his home state at Norman County Raceway.

SHARK TANK: With the 2025 season winding down across the nation, approximately 70 drivers are expected to descend on Charlotte for one more chance to score a win in one of the season’s premiere events.

First-time World 100 champion Ricky Thornton Jr. will be atop the list of favorites all week long in his Koehler Motorsports No. 20RT, having finished fourth or better in his last five Charlotte starts including three wins. The Chandler, AZ native will be a busy man all week, as he’s also set to wheel the Indy Race Parts No. 71 Sprint Car at Charlotte as well as a Micro Sprint at Millbridge Speedway on Monday and Tuesday as part of the Justin Arion Hauling Xtreme Outlaw Midget World Championship presented by Glenn Styres Racing.

Last year’s winner of the 50-lap finale, Chris Madden, is set to go for his fifth World of Outlaws victory at Charlotte aboard the Kale Green-owned No. 44. “Smokey” hasn’t done as much racing in 2025 as he’s used to, but he remains as fast as always. Madden has three regional wins across the southeast to his credit in 2025, and finished runner-up last time out in the Dirt Track World Championship at Eldora Speedway.

The highly-anticipated reunion of Mike Marlar and Delk Racing came last month at Boothill Speedway in the Bayou Classic, but the “Winfield Warrior” was never a factor in 13th on Friday and 21st on Saturday. Since then, the pairing has found their footing with a sixth-place run at Eldora and a weekend sweep at Atomic Speedway in American Late Model Iron Man Series competition. Charlotte could be the place for them to collect a win on the national level, with Marlar having two wins and nine top-six runs in his last 10 Charlotte starts since 2019.

Plenty more standouts have announced their plans to be part of World Finals, including Jonathan Davenport, Dale McDowell, Jimmy Owens, Hudson O’Neal, Brandon Sheppard, Devin Moran, Brandon Overton, Chris Ferguson and many more.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Super DIRTcar Series Closes Out Epic 2025 Season at the World of Outlaws World Finals

Josh James

CONCORD, NC (November 3, 2025) – A nine-month championship battle will come to an end, as the Super DIRTcar Series prepares for its annual trek to the “Tar Heel State”

The Beasts of the Northeast will finish out its 2025 season with a visit to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, NC, for the World of Outlaws World Finals Nov. 5-8.

Drivers will be in action on all four nights, kicking off on Wednesday, Nov. 5, with Qualifying night. The Super DIRTcar Series will run two Qualifying sessions, which will determine the Heat Race lineups for Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7, consisting of 30-lap Features paying $10,000 to win.

Event points will be accumulated on the first three nights of World Finals, which will set the Heat Race lineups for the season finale on Saturday, Nov. 8. The final Super DIRTcar Series Feature of 2025 will be a 40-lap Feature paying $15,000-to-win.

Following the Feature on Saturday, the 2025 Series champion will officially be crowned in a celebration on the frontstretch.

Joining the Big Block Modifieds at World Finals will be the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision.

TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE NOW

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all the action live on DIRTVision.

Here’s a look at What to Watch For at World Finals:

Mat’s Quest For 3: Entering this year’s World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, Mat Williamson leads the Series standings and is closing in on his third Super DIRTcar Series championship.

The St. Catharines, ON driver has held the top spot since July, and brings momentum to “America’s Home for Racing” after winning his third Billy Whittaker Cars 200 during Super DIRT Week 53.

Despite only reaching Victory Lane four times in Series Features as of Super DIRT Week, “Money Mat” has found plenty of success at Charlotte. He’s won four Features at the event, including one last season.

This year’s World Finals brings a new situation for Williamson, as it’s the first time he’s led the season-long points standings before to the event. He leads Alex Yankowski by 109 points entering Thursday’s Feature.

The Future is Now: While 10-time Series champion Matt Sheppard is usually the one battling Williamson for the title at World Finals, a familiar face to Charlotte’s Victory Lane is Williamson’s competition in 2025.

Alex Yankowski, who earned his first career Series win during World Finals in 2021, has stayed within striking distance of Williamson all season, earning milestones along the way. The Covington Township, PA driver opened the season by winning the “Big Gator” trophy at Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals and added two Feature wins.

“Kid Rocket” also led the Series standings for the first half of the season, before Williamson overtook him in July. Yankowski finished in the top 10 in all three races during last year’s World Finals, including a fifth in the final two races.

Yankowski isn’t the only Alex that’s turned heads with the Super DIRTcar Series this season. Alex Payne, the 2024 Series Rookie of the Year, scored his second career victory at Brockville Ontario Speedway, and backed it up with a win at Georgetown Speedway last weekend.

The Hopewell, NY driver has a top five and two top 10s in 10 starts at Charlotte and is searching for his first Series win in North Carolina. He also holds an advantage over Sheppard for third in the Series standings, leading the driver of the No. 9S by 21 points.

A Super Finish: While Sheppard likely won’t capture his 11th Series title in 2025, he still has the chance to lead the Series win column this season. Sheppard has five Series victories entering World Finals, tied for the most with Stewart Friesen.

With five wins at Charlotte in his career, the Savannah, NY, driver also has a chance to make history this season. A sixth World Finals win by “Super Matt” would make him the winningest driver in Super DIRTcar Series history in Charlotte, a mark he currently shares with Brett Hearn.

In his last six starts at the 4/10-mile track, Sheppard has finished in the top five in five of them. That includes two wins, a second, a fourth, and a fifth.

Six-Car Battle: When the Super DIRTcar Series arrives at World Finals, every point will matter, especially for the drivers between positions seven through 12 in the Series standings.

Peter Britten, Jimmy Phelps, Tim Sears Jr., Anthony Perrego, Jack Lehner, and Felix Roy are all separated by 86 points entering the weekend.

Out of those six drivers, Perrego, the most recent World Finals winner, and Phelps have had the most success, earning three wins between them. Perrego was also the only driver to finish in the top 10 on all three nights of World Finals in 2024.

While Perrego was the best car out of the six drivers in Charlotte last year, Lehner, Britten, and Phelps each finished in the top 10 on two of the three nights.

At the end of the season, there’s a difference of $5,000 between those six positions in the final point fund, with seventh earning $9,000, and 12th earning $4,000.

Surprise Winners: While the battle for the championship takes center stage, Charlotte has also produced four first-time winners in Super DIRTcar Series history.

Along with Yankowski in 2021, Mathieu Desjardins (2022), Tim Kerr (2015), and Ricky Elliott (2004) each earned their first Super DIRTcar Series win at the North Carolina track.

If a driver earns their first career Series victory at World Finals, they’ll become the fourth driver to accomplish that feat in 2025, joining Mario Clair (Cornwall), Sears (Brewerton), and Kolby Schroder (Lebanon Valley).
