INDYCAR SERIES

www.indycar.com

The IndyCar Series, officially known as the NTT IndyCar Series for sponsorship reasons, is the highest class of American open-wheel car racing in the United States, which has been conducted under the auspices of various sanctioning bodies since 1920. The series is self-sanctioned by its parent company, IndyCar, LLC, which began in 1996 as the Indy Racing League (IRL) and was created by then Indianapolis Motor Speedway owner Tony George as a competitor to Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART). In 2008, the IndyCar Series merged with CART's successor, the Champ Car World Series, unifying the history and statistics of both series (as well as those from their predecessors).

PORTLAND, Ore. (Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025) – Will Power staked his claim to continue with Team Penske while Alex Palou secured his spot among the legends of the INDYCAR SERIES after a scintillating BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland presented by askROI on Sunday at Portland International Raceway.

Power earned his first victory of the season and the first this year for Team Penske – helping the legendary team avoid its first winless season since 1999 – in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet. Power, who does not have a contract with Team Penske next season, finished 1.5388 seconds ahead of NTT P1 Award winner Christian Lundgaard in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. It was the 45th victory of Power’s legendary INDYCAR SERIES career.

“I think it’s just a big win for the whole team,” Power said. “We’ve had a rough year, and it’s not really because we’ve been off the pace. It’s just been unfortunate circumstances. It was a good, hard-fought win.

“Stoked. I’ve had a great career with Verizon and Penske, so I’ve really, really enjoyed winning for the guys and everyone I’ve worked with for a long time. It’s awesome.”

Palou finished third in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to clinch his fourth NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship and third straight series title, joining Ted Horn (1946-48), Sebastien Bourdais (2004-07) and Dario Franchitti (2009-11) as the only drivers to achieve a three-peat. Palou's fourth Astor Challenge Cup in the last five seasons tied him with Mario Andretti, Bourdais and Franchitti for third on the all-time championship list, behind only A.J. Foyt (seven) and Scott Dixon (six).

It also was the 17th series championship for Chip Ganassi Racing, tying it with Team Penske for the most titles in INDYCAR SERIES history.

“It’s unbelievable; it’s crazy,” Palou said. “I couldn’t be happier right now. This has been an amazing season, an amazing five years with CGR. I have no words to describe how grateful I am to everybody at CGR. I cannot wait for more.”

Graham Rahal finished a season-best fourth in the No. 15 Hendrickson International Honda of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, while Alexander Rossi rounded out the top five also with a season-best result in the No. 20 Java House ECR Chevrolet.

A race of divergent tire strategies in the first half converged into a spellbinding tussle between Power, Lundgaard and Palou over the last 30 laps after all three drivers made their final pit stops.

Power started the 110-lap race from the third starting spot on Firestone Firehawk alternate tires, while pole winner Lundgaard began in seventh – on Firestone primary tires – due to a six-grid spot penalty for an unapproved engine change. Palou also started on the harder, more durable Firestone primary tires from fifth on the grid.

Two-time series champion Power and Team Penske opted to use the softer, more grippy but less durable Firestone alternate tires for his first two fuel stints, choosing to try to run away from the 27-car field and hide before needing to run the primary tire – as required by series rules -- and a used set of alternate tires to finish the race.

The strategy helped Power build a 20-second lead over Palou by Lap 51. But then Power pitted at the end of Lap 61 for the slower primary tires, and the chase was on for Lundgaard and Palou.

By Lap 74, Lundgaard had closed to within 1.1 seconds of Power. Palou was nine seconds back but fortified with nearly double the amount of Push to Pass overtake time as his two rivals up the track.

Lundgaard made his final stop at the end of Lap 79, taking on a fresh set of Firestone alternate tires. Power stopped for the last time a lap later, with used Firestone alternates fastened to his wheels. Palou made his final stop at the end of Lap 82, taking on fresh Firestone alternate tires like Lundgaard.

Rahal, on an alternate tire strategy, pitted from the lead at the end of Lap 84. That put Power, Lundgaard and Palou in the top three spots.

It was go time. Game on.

By Lap 96, just .851 of a second separated the top three as cars on the tail end of the lead lap created speed-sapping turbulence for leader Power. Palou briefly passed Lundgaard for second on Lap 97, but the Dane fought back to regain the spot quickly on the same lap.

On Lap 107, Palou went off course and into the grass surrounding the 12-turn, 1.964-mile circuit while trying again to pass Lundgaard for second and perhaps make a run at Power. That dustup let Power pull away, and he led by 1.8018 seconds after Lap 108 and maintained a gap to the checkered flag.

Power, 44, basked in the joy of returning to victory lane and reminding the NTT INDYCAR SERIES he thinks he’s more than good enough to merit a new contract from Team Penske or another team in the paddock.

“I won three races last year,” Power said. “If you're a team, if you're waiting on me to know if I'm good enough, I don't know what you're thinking.”

Pato O’Ward was the only driver who could have delayed Palou’s coronation, entering this race 121 points behind. O’Ward, who started from the pole, needed to close the gap to at least 107 points. But his chances ended on Lap 21 due to an electrical problem in his No. 5 Arrow McLaren that forced a lengthy repair in the pits. O’Ward finished 25th, 10 laps down.

Palou wasn’t the only season title winner today; Honda clinched the INDYCAR SERIES manufacturers’ championship.

There are two races left in the 2025 season, both on oval tracks. The next race is the Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250 on Sunday, Aug. 24 in Milwaukee.

PORTLAND, Ore. (Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025) – What a difference a year has made for Arrow McLaren at Portland International Raceway.

Arrow McLaren teammates Christian Lundgaard and Pato O’Ward produced the two quickest laps, respectively, during the Firestone Fast Six qualifying session Saturday for the BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland presented by askROI. A year ago at this event, the top two qualifiers for the team were Alexander Rossi in 18th and O’Ward in 23rd.

SEE: Qualifying Results

O’Ward, clinging to his NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship hopes by a thread, will start from the pole because Lundgaard will be forced to move back six places on the grid to the seventh starting spot due to a penalty for an unapproved engine change after practice on Friday. Both drivers improved considerably on Firestone alternate tires from practice this morning, when Lundgaard was seventh quickest and O’Ward 11th on Firestone primary tires.

“It’s a bit of a surprising qualifying considering where we were in practice,” O’Ward said. “We were still kind of inching away at trying to make it better. So many changes where we were last year to where we are. Christian, great job getting the fastest lap time there.

“The car just came alive. I don’t really have an explanation for it. We didn’t really change anything from practice, but sometimes that’s just the story with these Firestone tires.”

Lundgaard earned the third NTT P1 Award of his career and his first with Arrow McLaren, which he joined before this season, with a best lap of 58.3939 seconds in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. His last pole came in July 2023 for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing at Toronto, a race he won.

“As I crossed the line, I didn’t really expect it,” Lundgaard said. “I had a big push in Turn 5 and a big push in Turn 6. I didn’t really think that was it.

“This is the best-case scenario for us, obviously, with a six-place grid penalty. I’m just proud of the team. Another front-row lockout for the team, except only one of them will start there. I’m happy that we could at least help Pato on that side.”

O’Ward’s best time in the Firestone Fast Six was 58.5343 in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. Felix Rosenqvist will join him on the front row for the 110-lap race Sunday (3 p.m. ET, FOX, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network) after his best Fast Six lap of 58.5583 in the No. 60 SiriusXM Honda of Meyer Shank Racing w/ Curb-Agajanian.

Starting third will be reigning Portland winner Will Power, who stopped the clocks at 58.6424 in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet. David Malukas will start fourth after his lap of 58.6557 in the No. 4 Gallagher Insurance Chevrolet of A.J. Foyt Enterprises.

Championship leader Alex Palou received a small bonus by earning the fifth starting spot in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Palou went off track and nosed into the tire barrier in Turn 11 late in the Firestone Fast Six, losing his best lap for causing a local yellow that affected another competitor and ending up last in the final segment of qualifying.

Palou, who has won eight of 14 races this season, needs to lead O’Ward by 108 points after the race Sunday to clinch his third consecutive series championship and fourth title in the last five years. Palou leads O’Ward by 121 points entering this race on the 12-turn, 1.964-mile road course.

“Happy that we had pace,” Palou said. “Obviously not happy that I went looking for mushrooms there in the Fast Six.”

Rossi just missed the Firestone Fast Six by .0163 of a second in the second round of qualifying, but he will start sixth in the No. 20 ECR Java House Chevrolet due to Lundgaard’s penalty, tying his best starting spot of the season set in March at The Thermal Club.

PORTLAND, Ore. (Friday, Aug. 8, 2025) – Christian Lundgaard led the opening practice Friday for the BITNILE.COM Grand Prix of Portland presented by askROI, edging by a sliver the driver that all eyes are following this weekend – Alex Palou.

Lundgaard turned the quickest lap overall, 58.5320 seconds, at Portland International Raceway in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.. Palou was second in the 80-minute session divided into groups with a best lap of 58.5381 seconds in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, a gap of just .0061 of a second.

SEE: Practice Results

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is racing this weekend on the 12-turn, 1.964-mile road course in the shadow of Mount Hood after a weekend off followed five races in four consecutive weekends. Three races remain in the 2025 season, all taking place over the next four weekends.

“We need to continue that momentum,” Lundgaard said. “It’s been really nice for everybody to have a nice little weekend off. Regroup, recharge. We all needed that week off.

“If we can execute this weekend and carry this momentum, then we can have a good end to the season.”

Palou kept pace with Lundgaard to open a weekend in which he can clinch his third series championship in a row and his fourth in the last five years. Palou, who has won eight of 14 races this season, leads Pato O’Ward by 121 points in the standings and only needs to lead by 108 after Sunday’s race (3 p.m. ET, FOX, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network) to win the Astor Challenge Cup.

Felix Rosenqvist produced a strong start to the weekend, ending up third at 58.6589 in the No. 60 SiriusXM Honda fielded by Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb-Agajanian and once again sporting a popular tie-dye Grateful Dead livery. Graham Rahal, the pole winner at this race in 2023, was fourth at 58.6879 in the No. 15 Hendrickson International Honda of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

Josef Newgarden rounded out the top five at 58.7126 in the No. 2 Astemo Team Penske Chevrolet.

O’Ward, the only driver mathematically eligible for the title besides Palou, clocked in at ninth with his best lap of 58.7981 in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.

Six-time INDYCAR SERIES champion Scott Dixon went off track in Turn 11 early in the session in his No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, triggering the one of two red flags in the practice. He was able to continue and ended up 11th overall.

Colton Herta, the pole winner here in 2019, missed more than half of the session with a technical problem discovered during his out lap in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda. He was 13th overall out of the 27 cars competing this weekend.

Saturday will be a busy day of on-track action. Up first is pre-qualifying practice at noon ET followed by NTT P1 Award qualifying at 2:30 p.m. ET and final practice at 7:30 p.m. ET. FS1, the FOX Sports app and the INDYCAR Radio Network will broadcast all three sessions live.

Strategic Investment and Partnership Launches New Era of Growth Across INDYCAR that Includes a Multi-Year Extension of INDYCAR’s Media Rights with FOX Sports

INDIANAPOLIS (Thursday, July 31, 2025) – Penske Entertainment and Fox Corporation ("FOX" or the "Company") (Nasdaq: FOXA, FOX), the parent company of FOX Sports, today announced an investment in the future of North America’s premier open-wheel racing series, with FOX’s acquisition of a one-third interest in Penske Entertainment, inclusive of INDYCAR and the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The investment is expected to supercharge a new era of growth for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, the most competitive and dynamic motorsport on the planet. This includes:

  • Innovative and industry-leading racing and entertainment events
  • A hyper-engaged digital strategy and immersive content focus
  • Enhanced promotion and star-building opportunities for NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers

Today’s announcement also includes a multi-year extension of INDYCAR’s media rights with FOX Sports.

“This partnership is built on long-standing trust and a shared vision for the future,” Roger Penske said. “FOX sees the incredible potential across our sport and wants to play an active role in building our growth trajectory. Lachlan Murdoch and his team, starting with Eric Shanks, are committed to our success and will bring incredible energy and innovation to INDYCAR.”

FOX Sports acquired INDYCAR’s media rights in 2025, bringing fresh promotional resources and significantly larger reach to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. This year’s Indianapolis 500 on FOX averaged 7.01 million viewers, a 41 percent increase over the previous edition and a 17-year high. So far, the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season is averaging a 31 percent increase in viewership year-over-year.

“We’re thrilled to join the INDYCAR ownership group at such a pivotal time for the sport,” said Eric Shanks, CEO & Executive Producer, FOX Sports. “INDYCAR represents everything we value in live sports — passionate fans, iconic venues, elite competition and year-round storytelling potential. This investment underscores our commitment to motorsports and our belief in INDYCAR’s continued growth on and off the track. We’re excited to help elevate the sport to new heights across all platforms.”

This news builds on wider momentum across the sport, marked by rising attendance and record crowds at several events this year, including a sell-out of the Indy 500. INDYCAR has invested heavily in digital growth recently, launching a new mobile APP, web site and fantasy platform while also generating 1 million new social followers. The SERIES will also add a new showcase to its calendar in 2026, racing through Arlington’s entertainment district through a first-of-its-kind joint venture with the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is the only premier motorsport in North America with every race on U.S. network television. It features an international field of the world's most versatile drivers who compete on superspeedways, short ovals, street circuits and permanent road courses. The 2025 season continues with the Grand Prix of Portland on Sunday, Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. ET on FOX.

Also, part of the Penske Entertainment family, the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway is annually home to the largest single-day spectator sporting event on the planet, the Indianapolis 500. This year’s “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” featured a crowd of more than 300,000 people. The famed venue is steeped on more than a century of racing heritage and has the largest seating capacity of any sporting venue across the globe.

NXT SERIES

www.indynxt.com

Indy NXT (pronounced "Indy Next"), previously Indy Lights, is an American developmental automobile racing series sanctioned by IndyCar, currently known as INDY NXT by Firestone for sponsorship reasons. Indy NXT is the highest step on the Road to Indy, a program of racing series leading up to the IndyCar Series.

PORTLAND, Ore. (Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025) – Dennis Hauger gave himself some breathing room in the race for the INDY NXT by Firestone championship Sunday, beating rival Caio Collet to the finish to win the Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway.

Rookie Hauger expanded his lead in the INDYCAR development series to 54 points – essentially one race – over Collet with two races to go this season, both on ovals at Milwaukee (Aug. 24) and Nashville (Aug. 31). He drove his No. 28 Nammo car fielded by Andretti Global to victory over the No. 76 HMD Motorsports machine of Collet by .9353 of a second.

SEE: Race Results

It was Hauger’s sixth win of the season but just his second since early June after he started the year by winning four of the first five races. Hauger clinched the series Rookie of the Year title with the victory, but his eyes are on a bigger prize.

“It’s a great day for the championship,” Hauger said. “An awesome day – back on top. Hopefully we can have a good weekend in Milwaukee and clinch the title there, as well.”

Myles Rowe finished third in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy entry, his fifth podium result of the season. Teammate Callum Hedge placed fourth in the No. 17 Abel Motorsports machine.

Salvador de Alba rounded out the top five in the No. 27 Grupo Indi car of Andretti Global as the Andretti and Abel teams both welcomed two drivers in the top five.

As usual on the 12-turn, 1.964-mile PIR circuit, the tricky Turn 1-2 complex played a pivotal role in deciding the outcome.

Pole sitter Collet led the field to the start, with fellow front-row starter Rowe threatening him on the outside heading into Turn 1 after the green flag. Collet eased to the left to parry Rowe’s move, leaving an opening to the inside.

Hauger, who started third, pounced on that gap and was helped when both Collet and Rowe braked a bit too deeply into Turn 1 and ran wide. Hauger drove around Collet in Turn 2 for a lead he would never surrender, pacing all 35 laps.

“I was looking at Myles, and I think we both ended up a little bit deep (in Turn 1),” Collet said. “I didn’t see Dennis coming on the outside. I just misjudged it and gave Dennis the opportunity for a great move.

“I did a mistake at the most crucial part of the championship, so very frustrating for myself. But we’ll keep pushing.”

Hauger then managed the gap for the rest of the race under sunny Pacific Northwest skies, keeping Collet at bay ranging from one-half to nine-tenths of a second. Hauger also deftly used his Push to Pass power boost system to resist every charge by Collet.

The next race – and the penultimate race of the season – is INDY NXT by Firestone at the Milwaukee Mile on Sunday, Aug. 24. Hauger and Collet remain the only drivers eligible to win the season championship.

PORTLAND, Ore. (Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025) – Caio Collet isn’t giving up.

Collet continued his persistent pursuit of championship leader Dennis Hauger by winning the Firestone P1 Award Saturday for the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway. It was Collet’s third pole of the season – all in the last three races – and his fourth career pole in the INDYCAR development series.

SEE: Qualifying Results

And there was nothing easy about this one, either.

Brazilian Collet grabbed the pole on his final lap in the second qualifying group with a top lap of 1 minute, 3.3595 seconds in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car. The pole run essentially was a one-lap flyer, as Collet had to serve a drive-through penalty with less than two minutes left in the session for improper lane usage as he exited pit lane.

Complicating matters for Collet and all drivers in the second group was a red flag triggered by a crash by Jack William Miller in the No. 40 Abel/Miller/Vinatieri Motorsports car due to an apparent mechanical failure with just under 11 minutes left, trimming nearly eight minutes from the session.

“It was one of the toughest sessions of my life, to be honest,” Collet said. “The drive-through, I was not expecting that. My engineer came on the radio and said I only had one lap after coming out of the pits.

“So, it was really tough. But I had a really good car, and I was glad I could put together a lap. Hopefully tomorrow we can win the race.”

Collet has won three of the last five races this season to climb into second in the standings, 42 points behind Hauger. There are three races remaining this season, starting with the 35-lap contest at 1 p.m. ET Sunday (FS1, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network) on this 12-turn, 1.964-mile road course.

Myles Rowe led the first group to qualify second at 1:03.5755 in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy car. That was his best qualifying performance in two seasons in INDY NXT, topping the third-place start in his series debut in 2024 at St. Petersburg.

Hauger will start third after his best lap in the second group of 1:03.4152 in the No. 28 Nammo machine of Andretti Global. Callum Hedge will join him in the second row of the starting grid after qualifying fourth at 1:03.6185 in the No. 17 Abel Motorsports car.

Bryce Aron tied his career-best start of fifth with his lap of 1:03.8284 in the No. 9 Chip Ganassi Racing machine. Salvador de Alba qualified on the outside of the third row in sixth at 1:03.8486 in the No. 27 Grupo Indi car of Andretti Global.

PORTLAND, Ore. (Friday, Aug. 8, 2025) – It looks like Dennis Hauger is ready to right the title ship.

Hauger led the opening practice for the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Portland on Friday with a top lap of 1 minute, 2.8638 seconds in the No. 28 Nammo car fielded by Andretti Global. That was more than six-tenths of a second quicker than his closest pursuer, teammate Lochie Hughes, whose best lap was 1:03.5003 in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship machine.

SEE: Practice Results

“Good session,” Hauger said. “A few things to work on but a good start to the weekend.”

Rookie Hauger won four of the first five races of the season in the INDYCAR development series and appeared to be on cruise control to the championship. But he has won only one of the last six races, with veteran Caio Collet capturing three of those races and jumping to second in the standings, 42 points behind Hauger.

There are three races left this season, starting with this event at 1 p.m. ET Sunday (FS1, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network) on the 12-turn, 1.964-mile road course.

Portland native Josh Pierson fared well in practice on his home track, ending up third at 1:03.5927 in the No. 14 HMD Motorsports car. Callum Hedge was fourth at 1:03.6196 in the No. 17 Abel Motorsports machine.

Michael d’Orlando was another bright spot during the 45-minute session, ending up fifth at 1:03.6454 in the No. 3 Priority/Rising Stars car of Andretti – Cape Motorsport. This is d’Orlando’s first start in the series since the season finale last September at Nashville Superspeedway.

“It feels great to be back,” d’Orlando said. “There’s been a smile on my face nonstop. Going down the backstraight, I was just laughing. It’s really great to be back. I wish I had the whole season.

“Coming from the couch to what was P1 for a time and ending the session P5, I think we’re in a good place to start the weekend.”

Collet ended up sixth at 1:03.7455 in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car despite missing part of the session with a broken roll bar.

Up next is pre-qualifying practice at 4:30 p.m. ET Saturday (FS1, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network), followed by qualifying at 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday (FS2, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network).
