Carlson
Wins the Battle, Hoffman Wins the Championship,
Moffitt is “Rookie of
the Year”
Lexington,
MI (October 4, 2008) – “Super Saturday” was just that for
Wisconsin native Steve Carlson, winner of the ASA
Late Model Series “Oktoberfest 100” held during day three
of the 39th Annual “Oktoberfest” hosted by the La
Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway, West Salem, WI.
Thirty-Two
ASA Late Model North Series cars were on hand to qualify for the 100
lap event that Highlighted “Super Saturday”. Carlson set
quick time during qualifying circling the .545 semi banked speed plant
with a time of 19.251 seconds, barley beating 2008 “Rookie of the
Year” contender Brett Moffitt’s earlier lap time of 19.257.
The
Saturday night feature, the final one on the ASA Late Model North
Series’ schedule for 2008, would determine who would wear the crown
of 2008 Season Champion and would also determine who would win the
2008 “Rookie of the Year” honors. Eddie Hoffmann held the
points lead going into the night, over second place Jesse
Saunders but, Hoffmann did not have a lock on the championship.
It was the same in the “Rookie
of the Year” battle, Brett Moffitt who was third in the
overall point standing, going into the night, had a slight lead over
fellow rookie contender Jeremy
Miller, who was just behind Moffitt, fourth place in the North
Series overall points.
ASA
Late Model Series Owner, Ron Varney made the decision to add all the
cars that competed in the GMPP “Shoot Out” which allowed 31 ASA
Late Model North teams to take the green
flag for the “Oktoberfest 100”. The field included
the most talented short track drivers in the nation, had a hard time
getting started as the first of several early race cautions came out
on lap seven. On the restart Carlson, who based on the invert,
started from fourth row inside, made a move to take the lead.
The lap eight restart would be the first of many as the caution flag
flew five more times before a front stretch accident on lap twenty-two
would bring out the red. Four cars were involved but somehow the
64 car of Griffith McGrath would end up on top of the 92 car of Trevor
Dassow. Excellent work by the speedways safety crew allowed all
four of the cars involved in the incident to restart the race.
Four more cautions between lap twenty-three and lap thirty-two would
keep the field tight but during green flag racing the #5 of Brett
Moffitt had started a move toward the front. Back in the pack
racing was tight but the crowd was fixed on a battle that was shaping
up for the front spots. On lap forty-four, Moffitt, who started
the race from sixth, would make a pass putting him into the second
spot, setting his sights on the 66 of Carlson. On lap
fifty-four, while making a pass on the #39 lap car of Shane Morrissey,
Carlson would check up slightly and Moffitt, who was right on his
tail, would make contact with Carlson, causing the leader to spin.
ASA Late Model Officials ruled the cause of the spin was the #39 lap
car and left Carlson followed by Moffitt in the first and second spots
for the restart. The battle between the veteran Carlson and the
rookie Moffitt had the crowd on its feet, some cheering for the local
Carlson, others cheering for the new comer Moffitt. On lap
ninety-four the sixteen year old Moffitt put a veteran move on
Carlson, making a pass on the outside coming off turn four to lead
that lap however, on the very next lap Carlson used a lap car as a
pick, getting past Moffitt to regain the lead. The yellow flew
again on lap ninety-seven with another coming out on lap ninety-nine,
setting up a green, white, checker shootout between Carlson and
Moffitt. In what turned out to be a total of 101 laps, Carlson
would prevail to win his second “Oktoberfest 100” title, with
Moffitt on his tail, finishing second in his first ever race during
the “Fest”.
When
asked to comment on his well deserved second place finish Moffitt
said, “To finish second to Steve in a race in Wisconsin is no
problem. I have to thank the 5K crew for giving me an excellent
car tonight”. When asked about the young Moffitt, in Victory
Lane, Carlson commented, “You need to keep an eye on that kid, he is
fast now and is only going to get faster. I am just happy to be
here in Victory Lane for “Oktoberfest” it seems light forever
since we won this event in 2000, concluded Carlson.
In
the North Series points championship, while not quite having the night
that either were looking for, Eddie Hoffmann would finish tenth, just
three spots ahead of Jesse Saunders which enabled him to maintain his
points lead, over Saunders, winning the 2008 ASA Late Model North
Series Championship. And in the “Rookie of the Year” battle,
Moffitt’s second place finish enabled him to maintain his lead over
the eighth place finishing Jeremy Miller, earning Moffitt the 2008 ASA
Late Model North Series “Rookie of the Year” honors.
The
unofficial finish for the ASA Late Model North Series Championship
“Oktoberfest 100” was:
1. 66 – Steve Carlson – 101, 2. 5 – Brett Moffitt - 101,
3. 9 – Jason Tyler

After time
away from the ASA Late
Model Series, Steven Brooks returns
for Oktoberfest
Weekend.
By Steven Brooks Racing / M.P.H. Promotions
New Lenox, Illinois (Wednesday, October 1, 2008): After missing his
first ASA Late Model Series Northern Division race in over a year and
a half, 2007 ASALMS Most Improved Driver Award Winner, Steven Brooks
is returning to the ASALMS and at one of the biggest end of the season
special events in the country.
The 2008 ASALMS Northern Division Season Champions will be held during
the prestigious Oktoberfest Weekend at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway
in West Salem, Wisconsin. The ASALMS North contingent will run in the
Oktoberfest 100 on Saturday, October 4, 2008.
"I can't wait to get to Oktoberfest. This is one of the biggest
races
of the year and the energy level there is like nothing else," Said
the
20-year-old from New
Lenox, Illinois. "Last year we struggled a bit at
LaCrosse, but our car is a lot better than it was last year, so I
think we should be good."
Brooks missed the last ASALMS North race at I-70
Speedway to partake
in two features over the same weekend as part of the end of the season
special for the Super Pro Late Model Series on September 20-21 at
Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana. A 50-lap Feature was on tap
for the 20th while a 100 lapper closed out the weekend.
After finishing sixth in the 50-lap Feature on Saturday night, Brooks
returned for Sunday's show and after a battle up front. Brooks slipped
back to eighth after an on-track incident with another driver.
"Our last race weekend was really a step in the direction that we
wanted to go," The Prairie State sophomore continued. "We ran
in the
Top 10 both days and were a serious contender. If it was not for a
little bit of on track incident on Sunday, I think we should have
finished second and maybe have something for (Eventual Winner) Jack
Landis."
"The car was not that good out of the box, but we worked on it all
weekend long and with the help of fellow racer Anthony Danta, I think
we learned some things that will help us this weekend at Oktoberfest."
Brooks ended.
Brooks' last ASALMS Northern Division event was back on August 30th at
Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the 2nd annual
Performance Concepts Inc., Bob Milner Memorial 100.
The day started bad for Brooks and his Steven Brooks Racing Team as in
Practice, a rear end gear blew up, cutting into his Practice time.
After Qualifying in the back of the pack, Brooks avoided the early
race carnage and was working through the field when another pile-up
ensued and Brooks couldn't avoid it.
For Oktoberfest, Brooks will steer his own Steven
Brooks Racing
Chevrolet Impala with sponsorship from; Midwest Sign and Lighting
and
Benda Manufacturing.
The Frangella Family also proudly supports Steven Brooks Racing as
well as National Railway Equipment, Parvin-Clauss Signs, Hoffman
Collision, and M.P.H. Promotions all have decals on the side of his
machine.
In addition, Brooks is actively involved in the St. Jude's Children's
Research Hospital as well as Race Against Drugs (R.A.D.)

Trent
Snyder hopes to end the 2008 season on a high note with a win at
Oktoberfest.
By Trent Snyder Racing/M.P.H. Promotions
Ironton, Minnesota (Tuesday, September 30, 2008): Trent Snyder has
enjoyed wearing the crown as the 2007 ASA
Late Model Series Northern
Division Champion throughout the 2008 campaign.
Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, he'll pass that crown off to either
Eddie Hoffman or Jesse Saunders at the conclusion of the 2008 ASALMS
Northern Division Season Championships this Saturday, October 4, 2008
at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway, located East of the Minnesota /
Wisconsin state line in West
Salem, Wisconsin.
An up and down season for Snyder has hindered his efforts to
successfully defend his ASALMS Northern Division Championship.
Nevertheless, Snyder is optimistic that he can end the 2008 campaign
on a high note at the track that is closest to his Minnesota residence
on the ASALMS North Schedule.
"We're looking forward to LaCrosse, we have always run really well
there and after our test last week, we feel pretty confident about our
chances." The Ironton Minnesota driver said. Heading into
Oktoberfest
Weekend, Snyder is eighth in the ASALMS North Points Standings and 75
markers out of the Top Five.
In Snyder's last race, the World
Cup 100 was at the famed I-70
Speedway in Odessa, Missouri. In perhaps the last ever ASALMS
event at
the wicked fast high-banks, Snyder was looking to visit victory lane
in the Show-Me State. Something he did twice in 2007. The day started
off well enough as he was the fastest Qualifier of the 23 cars on hand.
"We're pretty bummed out about the I-70 weekend. We had the car to
beat once again," A dejected Snyder explained. "But bad luck
continues
to hit us as it has all season long. This time a flat right rear tire
put an end to that after setting fast time." He added.
Snyder continues to wheel his familiar Red #88 Trent Snyder Racing
Chevrolet with sponsorship from Performance Concepts as well as
Dondelinger Chevrolet Jean Ross Eyewear, Elite Care, National Fleet
Graphics, Hedman Headers,
Shannon's Auto Body, RaceCarHelp.com,

Mountain Medical, ImARaceFreak.com,

One more chance at a
Top Five finish in the final ASA Late Model
Series North Points for Troy Hintzsche and Lorz Motorsports.
By Lorz Motorsports / M.P.H. Promotions
Midlothian, Illinois (Tuesday, September 30, 2008): Oktoberfest
Weekend is one of the biggest, tradition-laden, end of the season
special events in North
America. The ASA
Late Model Series Northern
Division has crowned each of their champions over the past two seasons
there.
The 0.545 Mile Progressively Banked Paved Oval of LaCrosse Fairgrounds
Speedway, located East of the Minnesota / Wisconsin state line in West
Salem, Wisconsin will host the ASALMS Northern Division Season
Championships on the Saturday portion of the huge weekend on October
4, 2008.
25-year-old Troy Hintzsche is ready for the Oktoberfest 100 and in the
eyes of many observers, is long past overdue to score his first career
ASALMS Northern Division Feature Win.
Hintzsche's last ASALMS North race was at I-70
Speedway in Odessa,
Missouri on September 20th for the World Cup 100. The Malta, Illinois
driver came home in sixth place at the end of the race and is now just
Nine (9) points out of the coveted Top Five in the final point's
standings.
"Troy ran a great
race at I-70. Last time we were there, it looked
like remnants of Talladega in the pit area after that race in
July,"
Laughed Lorz Motorsports Car Owner, Mike Lorz. "Our goal at
LaCrosse
is to Win! We want to finish as high as we can in the points, but we
need a strong showing and Troy is long overdue for that win!" Lorz
added.
"Troy has done an excellent job this season for Lorz Motorsports
and
I'm damn proud of what he and the entire team led by Crew
Chief, Dan
Lorz has accomplished this season." The appreciative Car Owner
stated.
Hintzsche won't be the only driver that Lorz will be watching this
weekend as Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario / Canada teenager, 19-year-old
Jordan Sims will also make the trip over and experience Oktoberfest
for the first time.
In addition, this will be Sims ASALMS Northern Division debut after
making select appearances in the ASALMS Challenge Division earlier in
the season. Lorz is looking forward to watching the young Canadian
pilot and seeing how he stacks up against a tough North field.
"Last time out, he broke a motor at Milwaukee. The rod snapped in
half," Explained the Car Owner, "We're trying to get Jordan as
many
laps as we can so he'll be ready to make a run at the Rookie
of the
Year title in 2009. He's a great kid and a very good driver. I
see
good things coming from him in the future." He ended.
For Oktoberfest Weekend, Hintzsche will race in his familiar red and
black #76 Lorz Motorsports Ford
Fusion with sponsorship from: Winfield
Solutions as well as DeKalb Seed, International Truck and Engine
Corporation, BASF Chemical
Corporation, Rooster Reality, Bell Racing,
M.P.H. Promotions, and Lorz Motorsports.
Sims will be behind the wheel of his White #99 Chevrolet
Monte Carlo
with sponsorship from; Sims Custom Countertops, Atkins Performance
Parts, Richelieu Hardware, M.P.H. Promotions, Jordan Sims Racing, and
Lorz Motorsports.
Also Lorz Motorsports is looking for a driver with financial backing
for the 2009 racing season. To learn more about the now vacant
seat in
the #54 car, as well as to inquire about Troy Hintzsche, Jordan Sims,
and the entire Lorz Motorsports operation, log onto the team website

Colt James
looks to stop the "Jimmy Lang Show" this weekend at the
home of Florida Speedweeks.
By Colt James Motorsports / M.P.H. Promotions
Troutman, North Carolina (Thursday, September 25 2008): Colt James is
having a stellar 2008 racing season in the ASA
Late Model Series
Southern Division. He's recorded a feature win and has only finished
out of the Top Four one time.
Normally that would be considered a stellar season and theoretically,
he should be leading the points. But Jimmy Lang and his Five Feature
Wins in 2008 have trumped James' outstanding year.
In his last race back on September 13th, the 1/2 mile
progressively
banked paved oval of South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil,
Georgia
was the site for the South Georgia 100 and again it was Colt James VS
Jimmy Lang.
Lang and James battled tooth
and nail, as they've done all season
long, but it would be Lang who would fend off the Buda, Texas native
to win his Fifth Feature of the year. James however was very happy
with his finish in the Peach State.
"South Georgia was a great
race for the team. We just got the car back
together (after an accident in the last race at Orange
County) and it
ran really good." The now Troutman, North Carolina resident stated.
After passing race long leader, James on Lap 87 of the South Georgia
100, it was Lang VS James all over again as the two stout pilot
battled tooth and nail for the win in Cecil, Georgia. On Lap 91, James
got sideways allowing James, and eventual second place finisher, Kris
Stump to slip by. James held on for the final podium position.
"All in all third was a good run for us," Continued the Roush
/ Yates
Racing Engineer. "I have to thank the team, man they worked
there tail
off at South Georgia and have all season. Also my family for all there
support as well as Magnum Trailers, Hamke Race
Cars, Day Motorsports,
M.P.H. Promotions and Aero Race Wheels." He appreciatively stated.
Now James will look to resume his season long battle with Lang in the
next ASALMS South event, the Florida 100 Presented by Crane Cams on
Saturday, September 28, 2008 at New
Smyrna Speedway in Samsula,
Florida. This race was originally scheduled for June 21st, but weather
forced postponement of this race.
"I'm really excited about New Smyrna, it looks like a fun track
that
has a good bit of banking and is pretty fast so hopefully we can make
the right adjustments in practice to give us a chance to run for the
win in the race." James ended.
With the exception of one race, James has not finished worse than
fourth and that includes one Feature win, one runner-up showing, one
third place showing, and two fourth places.
The lone finish outside the Top 10 occurred at Orange
County Speedway
back in August and after the lengthy battle with Lang, who won. The
25-year-old trails the ASALMS South Points Leader by 59 points heading
into the rescheduled event at the home of Florida Speedweeks.
James continues to wheel his familiar Black #15 Ford
Fusion with
sponsorship from; Magnum Trailers, as well as Wells Cargo, Day
Motorsports, Umsheid Race Services, Aero Race Wheels, Robert Hamke
Race Cars, M.P.H. Promotions, and of course, Colt James Motorsports.
